Dark and steamy sexy. Political games set in an upside down Greek mythology. Ariadne is engaged to Dionysus but the Minotar has been promised Ariadne by her father but he is supposed to kill her. Passions ignite and all bets are off and you just have to hang on to see who is still standing at the end.

Dark Restraint by Katee Robert is the seventh book in the Dark Olympus series. I'd recommend readers start with the first book in the series since there are overarching plotlines that develop over the books and make character dynamics easier to understand.

I'm a huge fan of Robert's writing, and I was instantly hooked on this series when I read Neon Gods. While many of the books have characters who exist in a morally gray area, Dark Restraint felt more in the dark romance subgenre than the books that came before it since it's a stalker romance. While I enjoy this series, this one felt a little too in the dark romance subgenre for my personal tastes so I found I didn't enjoy it as much as the others. However, I do think readers who are excited by that will find a lot to love here in the dynamic between Ariadne and the Minotaur, who she is never fully certain if she can trust or not.

As always the narrators did an excellent job—I love hearing them tell these stories!

I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.

I had never heard of Ariadne in Greek mythology, but you can bet that I brushed up before I read this retelling. I love that the Minotaur was given a personality instead of being just a monster. The passion between Ariadne and the Minotaur burned hot, and the story was all the more better because of it.

Dark Restraint by Katee Robert and narrated by Zara Hampton-Brown; Alex Moorcock is an excellent premise, well scripted, but there was just something not quite clicking for me in the casting. The narrators are fantastic and it is likely my taste that meant this one did not quite connect. I still recommend a listen as the book itself is fantastic (I bought it after the audiobook) and it is a great story

So please don't dismiss the audiobook based on my taste, the performances are fantastic and the storyline is on point, maybe it's just because I started on book 7. It is highly likely that I will start over and this review may just change in the future

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, the author Katee Robert and narrators Zara Hampton-Brown & Alex Moorcock for this ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

The Minotaur has a bad reputation for being cold, calculating, and ruthless, but he's always had a soft spot for Ariadne. If you like a tale of a bad man with one weakness, this is the one for you.

I do think the politicking is becoming a bit more complex, but I have enjoyed all the titles in this series so far. Neon Gods is still my favorite.

Thank you Net Galley and publishers for letting me read this arc in return for an honest review.

This series just keeps getting more and more dramatic. Olympus is on the brink of war and the barrier is falling. The 13 aren't safe anymore but they've gotten help from an unlikely enemy. Ariadne has given away all of her peoples' secrets to the deadly Olympians just so she can get away from her cruel father. The deal was that she stays safe if she marries one of the 13. Only problem, the Minotaur says she's his and no one else's. I really like how this series is full of twists and turns and you never know who's really a traitor. It has the right amount of spice and action and I'm excited for the next one to come out. It hasn't been my favorite of the series but still enjoyable.

Unfortunately this is my least favorite in the Dark Olympus series. I didn't like how there was no relationship build between Ariadne and The Minotaur. There was no setup or pathing for them to learn they love each other. It just kind of...happened.

This is not my favorite of the series, but I still can't get enough of it. The narrators are perfect and make this series shine. I will definitely keep reading this series for as long as Katee keeps writing it.

I've read all of the books in this series and this one was my least favorite but I still enjoyed it.

For fans of:

Ariadne and the Minotaur have been locked into an infinite push and pull for over a decade, constantly in each other's orbits without ever acknowledging the depth of their friendship or the heat of their attraction. When Minos' (Ariadne's father and the Minotaur's mentor) plans are thwarted, they realize they can finally be together even as the city falls around them.

This book includes:
- childhood friends to lovers
- cities at war
- complex interpersonal politics
- betrayal and distrust

This book is another fun installment in the Neon Gods series. The Minotaur is brooding and relentlessly protective. He is desperate to demonstrate his love to Ariadne in a way that is intoxicating to read. Ariadne is wiggling out from her father's thumb and is beginning to explore what it is like to satisfy her own wants and needs.

For some reason, this book didn't hit the way past books in the series did and I unfortunately found myself strongly disliking Ariadne and getting icked out by the Minotaur. It was really hard to cheer the Minotaur on in particular because he came off as very dumb and easy to manipulate. The series storylines have become very repetitive, so I felt like the book dragged on and I found myself skipping through parts.

I will most likely continue with this series, despite my disappointment.

Not my favorite of the series. I found myself cringing or losing interest throughout the story being told. I am usually a fan of Zara and Alex narrating but with this particular story line/ retelling of Ariadne and Minotaur I just could get into it.

If you are a fan of Katee I still believe you may enjoy this one, but for me it was a miss. I’d still recommend it.

Thanks so much NetGalley and Dreamscape Media.

Everytime I read the next installment of this series I don't know how it can get better and then I listen to the audio and it does. I associate the narrators so much with Katee's words now and they do such ana amazing job adding to the story, the suspense and the steam. Incredible!

I'm enjoying this series, but it does start to feel repetitive as it goes on. The book on it's own was interesting and fun to read. I think I'm just a bit less interested in this series now.

This series has been hit or miss for me. I've really loved a couple of them and some of them have just been "meh". Unfortunately, this one fell into the latter category for me. I just couldn't get on board with Ariadne and the Minotaur's story. I didn't feel like there was a solid plot, it was really all over the place. There was a lot of confusion for me.

This won't deter me from reading books in this series in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this ALC in exchange for my honest review.

This book was hot!!! I really enjoyed the hotness and I’m here for the story, I cannot wait to see what happens with Olympus and I’m much more interested in the next books. This pairing was sadly not it for me but I still had fun.

Another steamy edition to the dark Olympus series. This book follows the minotaurs story and although I thought he would be an absolutely unredeemable character after his actions in previous books, I should know by now that this author has a way of making everybody's motives come to the surface so that readers can understand and eventually be rooting for this love story, even though it stars a villain. The city of Olympus is becoming a even more brutal playground for the rich and elite, and it will be interesting to find out if the city will still be standing by the end of the series.

I genuinely think this may be my favorite book in the Dark Olympus series. The minotaur/Ariadne romance has been built up throughout almost every book in the series so far and so it was so satisfying to finally get to read their story.

I was obsessed with everything about this book. I'm also obsessed with Katee Robert's ability to write a riveting romance while also continuing such a complex overarching series plot line. Can't wait for the next book!

Thank you to Netgalley for my ALC copy.

The narrators nailed this one. It picked the series back up with the spice and drama we've all come to love from Katee Robert.

As much as I was obsessed with Neon Gods, 3 or 4 books into this series my interest was waning, dark Restraint pulled me right back in, I feel like we finally have traction again in this series as the main plot line is progressing. I loved learning more about Ariadne, and I feel we were set up so well for the next book in this series. Katee Robert, you’ve reeled me back into this series!

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
