I read this many many years ago and loved it then. It felt like coming home when I read this again, Jennifer writes pure magic into all her books.
Just phenomenal
This friends to lovers with the unrequited love trope with them being friends since childhood. I really enjoyed Syd's character and felt a connection with her trying to work through her feelings. There are some great twists and turns throughout that got me. It focuses around miscommunication and it's not necessarily my favorite trope, I feel that it was done well for this one! It's a pretty quick read for fans of friends to lovers with unrequited love.
Frigid is the perfect blend of romance, angst, and suspense that kept me hooked from the very first page. Sydney and Kyler's dynamic is the ultimate best-friends-to-lovers scenario, with a depth that makes their emotional turmoil both relatable and heart-wrenching. Sydney's unrequited love for Kyler has simmered for years, and watching her navigate her feelings while trying to preserve their friendship really struck a chord.
Kyler, on the other hand, is the classic commitment-phobic guy who's hidden his feelings under layers of flings and casual encounters. I loved how the author explored his insecurities. The chemistry is undeniable, and when they’re trapped together in a snowstorm, the tension is so thick you can practically feel it crackling off the page.
The added suspense of being stalked in an isolated ski resort adds a thrilling layer to the story, heightening the stakes and keeping the pages turning. It felt like more than just a romance—it had an edge of danger that I didn’t see coming, which made the book that much more engaging.
While the plot was gripping, there were moments when the pacing felt a bit rushed, especially towards the climax. I would have loved a bit more buildup in certain scenes, but overall, the emotional payoff was totally worth it.
If you love friends-to-lovers romances with a twist of suspense, Frigid will keep you warm on a cold night. The author delivers a compelling story full of heart, heat, and a touch of danger. Highly recommend!
A little cliche, a smidge cringe but also cute. While this is definitely a slow burn, I loved the friends to lovers aspect. Kyler and Sydney were so dang cute together. The whole forced proximity bits of this with the mystery of the mayhem going on was intriguing and kept me fully engaged. Kyler might've been outwardly a man wh0re, but he was the best book boyfriend vibes internally and to Sydney as her best friend, always taking care of her. This definitely had some YA vibe moments but also some steamy, spicy moments. Overall, it was a good read if you get past the little cliche moments on the first little bit. I'm definitely going to have to try more of Jennifer L Arnentrout's books now!
I received this ARC for the new deluxe edition with sprayed editions re-release from SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and NetGalley to read/review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.
Frigid is a charming, well written, and a steamy friends to lovers story. I absolutely loved the characters. The witty dialogue was great. I need to read more from this author.
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the arc of this book.
Always an absolute fave author of mine writing just another phenomenal story that I just couldn't put down! I just ate this one up and instantly wanted to re-read the second I was finished. Everything I need and want from start to finish. The anticipation I had from this release I was not let down. JLA always give me all the feels in her writing and this is one written with friendship and incredible love.
This book was incredibly juvenile and predictable. The entire premise is a miscommunication trope -- which is my least favorite.
Sydney and Kyler have been best friends for years - both in love with the other one. But neither of them want to have a simple conversation.
There's a point in the book where a couple traumatic things happen and it's incredibly obvious who is responsible.
After this event takes place, Sydney is withdrawn and reasonably upset about it. Her mom encourages her to talk to a therapist about it and Sydney dismisses it --- which is STUPID! Because Sydney is going to school to be a psychologist! She should know how important it is to talk to someone after a traumatic event happens.
I couldn't wait to be done with this book. And not in a good way.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a sweet and suspenseful romance that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend everyone to read. Even though they are the complete opposites, Kyler and Syd have been friends forever since they were kids. Syd, our FMC, is sweet and shy, while Kyler, our MMC, is outgoing and quite the alpha male. Their romance is definitely slow burn, both refusing to take the next step first, and it's not until they are stuck together and snowed in that they are forced to do something about it...
I'm personally a sucker for the opposites attract and friends to lovers tropes, so I enjoyed this especially with the added suspense/mystery element to it. There was some miscommunication between the two, but isn't there always with new adult love!? Kyler was a very likeable MMC for me, and the way he cared for and protected Syd made me giddy all the time.
Thank you to Netgalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the gifted ARC to read this book before its release! 💗

Jennifer L. Armentrout's Frigid (Deluxe Edition) is a friends-to-lovers romance that offers a delightful mix of tension, emotional depth, and steamy moments with a wintery flair. For me, I think that the character development is one of the book’s standout features; Sydney's struggle with her feelings for Kyler felt genuine, and her internal conflicts made her even more relatable. Kyler’s charm and eventual realization of his feelings added depth to his character, as well. Armentrout’s writing is smooth and engaging, effectively capturing the tension between the characters. The dialogue is witty, and the pacing keeps the reader invested in their evolving relationship.
The snowstorm backdrop creates a cozy, isolated environment that heightens the romantic tension. The forced proximity - one of my favourite tropes - added to the stakes, making the reader root for Sydney and Kyler to finally confront their feelings. However, I felt that the slow-burn tension was far too drawn out, leading to quite a few moments where the story feels stagnant. Additionally, certain plot points came off as predictable, and I suspect this will be the case for other seasoned romance readers, too. At times, the miscommunication between Sydney and Kyler was also frustrating.
Overall, Frigid delivers a charming romance with relatable characters and smooth writing. While it has its flaws, particularly in pacing and predictability, I think that the emotional depth and steamy interactions make it a worthwhile read for fans of the genre. If you enjoy stories where characters must confront their true feelings in a cozy, intimate setting, this book will likely leave you feeling warm and satisfied. Its a wonderful option for a cozy winter read!

Oh, these two. Best friends. Unrequited loves. A bit afraid of losing all that they have with each other. But what if they could have so much more? Sydney is by far the braver one here. She puts it out there, more than once, and knows she’s done trying when her attempts are dismissed in a callous manner. But then Kyler catches up (boys do mature slower, after all) and realizes just how cold he seemed, when the reality is that everything in him yearns for Sydney.
So these two try. And one stumbles badly. Then the wrong one tries to apologize. But the truth is determined to be shared. The rightful blame is claimed while refusing to accept that the other party overreacted (which is true in my eyes; one person did avoid full transparency and start that snowball of doubt rolling along). But then they both brave rejection enough to share it all, so maybe best friends are the best lovers, too. It sure seems like that’s the case here, once Kyler gets over his fears of not being good enough and Sydney really speaks her mind!
Another amazing book, I read it in a single sitting and it was a wild ride the entire time. 5/5 stars and definitely going on my to buy list
Kyler and Sydney have known each other forever. Though things between them as friends has always been good. It's the feelings that have grown since they were young that neither of them can deal with.
This story has some crazy twists and turns when the two go on vacations, as usual for winter break. Forcing them to admit what they never dared. Then having it ripped out from underneath them. Mistakes are made. Friendships possibly ruined forever.
Fun characters, good storyline an overall enjoyable book

I requested this book as a huge fan of Jennifer L Armentrout and her fantasy books, I wanted to try some of her other work as well!
I went into this book without knowing the premise, and was somewhat shocked by the throw of them being snowed in.
I have to say.. Kyler (the MMC) was so incredibly frustrating. Im also one for a slow burn/unraveling of feelings but I felt like I was being played by this plot as much as Sydney was by Kyler. I just didn’t feel a connection with him and Sydney because of the miscommunication. The end just kind of felt like a 180 from everything else.
However, this book is still a decent quick read! It’s just under 300 pages and with the right reader/audience to this forced proximity and almost insta-love kind of feeling in the book, it will do well (again)!
Thank you JLA and Netgalley for letting me read the eARC of the reprint. Lovely cover, and I look forward to seeing these beauties in store!
I love childhood friends to lovers so this was right up my alley. Going into this blindly, I was not anticipating the snowed-in "mystery" that turned a little more intense than I thought it would. While I could not put this book down, I felt like it was longer than it needed to be and I struggled at times with the lack of communication and pure cluelessness that both of our characters seemed to have regarding how the other one felt.
Some things felt rushed at times while others were rushed, but overall this book kept me turning pages and I couldn't wait to see how things ended.
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley.
I love the authors and they did such an amazing job on this one
Frigid is a sweet and simple contemporary romance. Kyler and Syd are best friends and opposites. He puts the "man" in man-whore while she is more reserved and a book nerd. Syd harbors deep feelings for him but is determined not to ruin their friendship. All bets are off as they find themselves snowed in together.
I loved Kyler because he was fun and always goofs around. He is always looking out for Syd. Syd was more serious and responsible. Their chemistry was palpable. The story takes a bit of a detour as some drama and mystery gets thrown in.
Frigid is a fun and sweet contemporary romance. You will love the characters. It flows and wraps up nice and neat. A guilty pleasure!

Best friends to lovers forced proximity college romance. A short spicy story. Alpha male, angsty. A fun time. Not a serious story at all but got me out of a reading slump
I didn’t love this relationship as much as I wanted to. I wasn’t quite swooning, or rooting for them. Overall, a decent easy read that I wouldn’t run to tell you to read.
For fans of:
- Colleen Hoover
Childhood best friends, Kyler and Sydney have been thick as thieves since kindergarten. Now in college, their relationship is beginning to strain as each of them secretly pines for their relationship to move past the platonic into romance. Stuck in a winter cabin during a devastating blizzard, they may be forced to face their feelings once and for all.
This book includes:
- will they won't they romance
- apocalyptic snowstorm
- very protective MMC
- nerdy plain girl x hot player boy dynamic
"Frigid" is a steamy romance for all readers looking to enjoy a quick contemporary romance with high stakes. Kyler's protectiveness of Sydney is so swoon-worthy, especially since I am a suck for a good childhood friends-to-lovers romance. Unfortunately, I found both of the protagonists to be very one-dimensional and even a bit insufferable. The storyline was very predictable and there were some plot points that felt so painfully unrealistic that it took me out of the story. I also found some of the more intimate scenes to be cringe-worthy. and the writing style to be elementary. I am sure that there will be many people who really enjoy this book, but it was not a fit for me. I will be sticking to Jennifer L. Armentrout's fantasy books from now on.
