Oh my god! WOW! SO INTENSE! After I read that’s not my name I ran straight here for no place left to hide and it did not disappoint! 100% rec!

Brooke protects her image at all costs. After all, that's what is expected of her by her family, her friends, her teachers, everyone. But what happens when Brooke's perfect image starts to crumble after an "incident" that occured after a back-to-school party she threw at her family's lake house. Can Brooke move fast enough to keep all the balls in the air and make sure she maintains her perfect image long enough to graduate and get out of town? If not, what will be left of her life when she no longer has a place to hide?

This was the sophomore title by Megan Lally, and in what seems to be her fashion, it was an engaging, twisty mystery that keeps the reader guessing about what is really going on until the end. I will say that I liked That's Not my Name a little more than this one because I found the characters in her first book more empathetic than this one, Brooke was struggling to maintain her perfect image, but while I did feel a little bad for how her friends were treating her, something felt off about her from the beginning.

Overall, this book was a quick read that I think will have wide student appeal, and I will definitely add it to my library collection.

Was excited to read this after That's Not my Name was my favorite YA thriller of 2024. This didn't let me down and was a fun, intense read.

Brooke has worked hard to maintain perfection in all aspects of her life. She is working to recover after an "incident" that changed her life forever and almost ruined her prominent family name. Since the incident, her parents haven't been the same and everyone has treated her differently. After finding out she got into Yale, she is talked into enjoying her first social night out since the incident. She thinks this will change everything and give her a fresh start. On her way home with her best friend, Jenna, she notices a truck tailing her. She wonders if this has anything to do with the calls, slashed tires, and newspaper clippings left about the special investigation into the incident. Someone is searching for secrets she does not want to reveal. It was an intense action thriller chase as they travel into a barren area with no cell service, at least 40 minutes away from the next town.

The book goes from present POV to the past POV detailing the incident that changed everything. It involved Claire, Brooke's old best friend who had a family scandal that made her move out of town. Claire shows up in Brooke's life again at a party and ruins everything. But did Brooke cause her death? This was a fun, fast paced suspenseful read. Similar to That's Not My Name, it doesn't read as YA in my opinion and I enjoyed it very much as an adult!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Newly released 1/7/25.

This book was a typical YA "popcorn" thriller.

The characters were extremely unlikeable, the plot jumped all over the place, I figured out a lot of the twists before they happened, the book seemed to drag on and I found myself skimming a lot, and parts of the book it felt like I had read in other books before.

Overall, it was just, "meh" for me.

No Place Left to Hide is a fast-paced thriller with a dual timeline layout. The story follows Brooke during the before and after/now timelines as we try to uncover what exactly went down that fateful night when a classmate lost their life. This story is engaging, suspenseful, and full of twists and turns that enthrall the reader. I highly enjoyed this book and think fans of We Were Liars will love this story, too.

4.25 stars

happy late publication day!

Firstly, thank you so much to Netgalley and the author Megan Lally for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. It took me a while to get around to it, but I'm glad I finally picked it up.

I devoured this book in a single sitting, 2 hours to be exact, which shows just how fast and bingeable No Place Left to Hide was. The story follows Brooke, the "perfect girl" of her school. An incident takes place at her lakehouse, which then causes her to be anonymously stalked and harassed as people think she is to blame. Brooke then goes to a party, the first one since the lakehouse incident, where her and her best friend are manically tailgated by the stalker on the way home.

I loved the alternating chapters from past and present, I was kept in suspense on both timelines and I really enjoyed it. I was unable to give this one five stars because the ending didn't surprise/shock me too much, and that usually what I rate my thrillers on.

Overall, it was an amazing YA thriller which was both easy to read and digest, as well as packed with suspense. Would definitely recommend to fans of Five Survive by Holly Jackson, as it gave the same vibes.

I really enjoyed the author's debut novel, and I think I might like this one even more!

High school senior, Brooke, is so close to escaping her hometown and the memories of a party gone awry at her parent's lake house. With her acceptance into Yale she's one step closer to leaving it all behind. Too bad someone else desperately wants Brooke to remember what really happened the night her ex-best friend, Claire, died. After months of harassing calls and vague threats, Brooke's stalker is demanding her confession, or she might not survive the night.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced and twisty thriller! This is high school pettiness at it's finest, and I loved every second of it. Even though these characters are definitely extreme examples, I thought the author did a great job of showcasing how tumultuous friendships can be at this age. Everything feels so high stakes it can cause two people to be best friends one second, and sworn enemies the next.

I love that the author chose to tell the story from Brooke's perspective. This was one of the best uses of the unreliable narrator that I've read in a long time. The way Brooke's character and intentions were revealed over the course of the story was masterful. We see from the beginning that Brooke is a bit of a spoiled, rich girl, but she's also under enormous pressure from her parents, and she clearly cares about her friends, which creates this confusing dynamic.

There were some other plot points that were maybe a little predictable, but this is where I think the story's fast pacing does it some favors, because the reader doesn't have to wait too long to find out if their predictions were correct.

Megan Lally is 2/2, I will read anything she writes.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, SourceBooks Fire, for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Entertaining popcorn thriller. It did keep me reading until the end, but, wow, what a cast of unlikable characters! I really didn’t care what happened to any of them, but the book was compulsively readable and I had to find out what was happening, so four stars for that!

Thanks for the opportunity to read in advance!

this book was absolutely good!! it kept you wanting to read and the twists and turns were crazy for me. i didn’t mind the time jumping at all, and although ALL the characters sucked - they were written so good that you loved to hate them!

This book is a fun popcorn thriller. The book won't keep you guessing if you read a lot of thrillers but you will enjoy the book. If you are new to thrillers then you will love the wild ride! Rating 4 but probably more 3.75

No Place Left to Hide was a fast-paced read with a compelling mystery following two girls who find themselves targeted on an isolated road.

Brooke Goodwin has worked hard to repair her reputation since "the incident" that threatened to take it all away. Getting into her dream university is just icing on the cake so when her classmates want to celebrate their college acceptances, Brooke can't say no. After a perfect night, Brooke and her best friend begin the ninety minute drive back home when an old truck starts aggressively tailing them. Someone thinks they know what really happened the night of "the incident" and they won't stop until the truth is exposed.

No Place Left to Hide alternates chapters between present day and six months prior when "the incident" took place. The dual timelines was a great choice as it helped build up to the reveal of why someone was after Brooke. In the flashback chapters we learn something major happened at a party Brooke hosted to celebrate the start of senior year. It doesn't take long for us to learn what happened between the clues revealed in the two timelines although the full truth of what happened does take longer to come out. I was really invested in the flashback chapters, wondering how we'd go from a fun party to something much darker.

The present day chapters are where the bulk of the suspense and action in the story are. After a few chapters of set up, we get to the part with Brooke and Jena trapped in Brooke's car as someone is chasing them down which is the majority of the present day section. With the two of them in danger, Brooke reveals to Jena that someone has been harassing her for months after the special investigation into what happened rules it an accident. It becomes clear that whoever Brooke's stalker is, they're also the one chasing her but the author does a good job keeping their identity shielded. The ending of the book is incredibly well done and contained several twists I didn't see coming. We also get an epilogue of sorts where we see the planning and aftermath of what happened which was an excellent choice.

Overall No Place Left to Hide was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it if you're in the mood for a quick thriller.

This is great propaganda for why rich people shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

Honestly the more I think about this book the more annoyed I get. However I would like to start with my biggest takeaway from this book:
Megan Lally is a very talented writer. There are a lot of things about this book that made me kind of dislike it, but the writing is very good.

This book is about Brooke Goodwin (a name you will never forget because she literally will not let you). A (little less than a) year before the start o the novel, Brooke was throwing a party at her family's lake house. At this party Brooke's nemesis, Claire Heck, ends up dying in what is ruled an accident. In current day, it's becoming increasingly clear to Brooke that someone doesn't believe Claire's death was an accident. They've been harassing her for months, which all culminates in Brooke (and her best friend Jena) getting tailgated on a rural highway. The girls have to fight to stay on the road and eventually fight to stay alive.
It's honestly a really good plot. It's engaging, it's intense, it really uses the stranded and isolated setting well. The plot of this book is the best part of the entire story, and if it weren't for the end I think it could've low-key saved this book for me. Lally knows how to write tension and danger SO WELL.

The real problem here is the characters. I. hate. every. single. one. And this is so confusing to me because the characters in Lally's debut were so likeable and interesting, even the literal villain was sympathetic. The characters in this book are TRASH. They are EVIL. All of them!!! This is the reason I keep getting more annoyed the more I think about this book, because I just keep getting more annoyed about the characters.

But anyway I digress. I can't get into that without spoiling the entire book, so all I'll say about it is that the characters ALL turn into the worst people ever by the end of the book and I'm left with not a single person to root for. I think I'm supposed to think the characters at the end are the "good guys", but I also hate them. They are also terrible people. All this book really ended up giving me was a bunch of people I think deserve way worse than they got.
However!! Lally does a really good job of making the characters switch rapidly between sympathetic and intolerable. I started the book hating Brooke, and then when we meet Claire I was suddenly on Brooke's side (despite how awful she is) because of how EVIL Claire is. It is genuinely such a good example of character work, even if I hated every character.

I guess I didn't really digress....
Anyway.
The setting of this is so well done. It's spooky and isolated and you can FEEL the fear in Brooke's POV. I read this book in two days because the plot was so intense that I needed to know what happened. Maybe it's because I'm always a little worried about accidentally driving off a cliff, but the setting of this really works for me as a thriller.
I also think the past timeline was really well-utilized. It didn't feel like it detracted from the current timeline, and I still found it really interesting. It doesn't feel irritating when it switches from this high-caliber chase scene to this low stakes party scene, because the party somehow doesn't feel low stakes (even though MOST of it is).

So overall, I didn't really ENJOY this book per se, but I still would recommend this simply because Lally is such a fantastic writer. I really did like her debut and I will absolutely be reading whatever she puts out next. I just can't in good faith say I liked this book. Also genuinely F*** Brooke's dad. Hate that man.

Megan Lally has done it again! This was such a fun YA mystery thriller that grabbed my attention from the very start! A girl dies the summer before, and now the main character, Brooke, is receiving mysterious no-caller ID phone calls. Who could possibly be out to get this “It” girl? If you’re looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and is a quick read, this is the one! Big thanks to @netgalley and @sourcebookfires for the E-Arc!

Megan strikes again with another twist I wasn’t anticipating. One messed up night is about to Chang everything. Who can you lean on when even your family is only looking out for themselves?

I was rooting for the villain for 85% of the book whoops.

Brooke Goodwin has it all - top grades, a jam-packed extracurricular schedule, and a reputation for throwing the best parties at her fancy school. But that was before. Six months ago, a tragic boat accident during one of her parties left her ex-best friend turned sworn enemy, Claire, dead. And while the world has moved on, someone clearly hasn't. Brooke starts getting creepy messages and nonstop calls from someone who is convinced she had something to do with Claire's death. After all, Brooke was seen fighting with Claire the night of the incident.

Brooke's plan? Keep her head down, get through the rest of senior year, and head off to college, where she can leave all this behind. Easy, right? Wrong. Things take a dangerous turn after a night out with her BFF Jena when Brooke's stalker ups the ante with a terrifying game: truth or die. Just when she thinks it can't get any worse, a Bronco appears out of nowhere, and starts chasing them down. Now, Brooke has no choice but to play along if she wants to stay alive.

Megan Lally KNOWS how to write a thriller! This book had me biting my nails, holding my breath, and flying through the pages because I had to know what was going to happen next. She is so talented at creating suspense and tension! When Brooke and Jena were driving in the car to escape, I swear my heart was pounding like I was right there with them. And that twist at the end? I didn't see it coming at all. By the time I closed this book, I had a lot of feelings about Brook, but I'll let you figure that out for yourself. If you love YA thrillers with nonstop suspense and unexpected twists, this one's a MUST READ! I'm giving it 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5)!

P.S. If you haven't read her other book, That's Not My Name, DO IT. It was one of my top reads of 2024, and Megan Lally has officially made it on my auto-buy list. I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion!
