It's so hard to focus on what you have and much easier to see what you're not and that's just how it is for Nicole. While this story started off at a slower pace, it gradually and eventually drew me in. Witemeyer does a great job of incorporating a subtle humor and lightness in with more serious topics. This allows for the reader to enjoy an awareness of issues without an oppressing heaviness.

These characters are very enjoyable and likable, and their individual strength and quirks made them even more unique and endearing.

Content: mild romance; mild violence; mild religion.

Nicole Renard
Darius Thornton
Nicole Renard is her father’s only heir and he is upset that she isn’t a son. He sends to New Orleans in order for her to find a husband. She however doesn’t make and instead ends up working for Darius Thornthon. Darius is determined to find a way figure out how to stop broiler plates from exploding when heated. He considers it his mission.

Even though Nicole is a bit of a tomboy I didn’t enjoys this book as much as I did Karen’s archer series but it was still a good read.
