In the domain of the creative fields, much is made regarding “inspiration.” But what’s it all about?

Carey Wallace explores a range of factors which go into “inspiration” in The Discipline of Inspiration: The Mysterious Encounter with God at the Heart of Creativity.

The author explores inspiration, incarnation, and discipline. She considers what inspiration is about, its domain, worship, its muse, and love. Incarnation features the endeavor of finding and fulfilling inspiration in real world ways and what it is all about. The disciplines focus on various kinds of practices which a person might attempt in the creative process: surrender, various forms of rest, even obedience or service. She also thus considered discipline in inspiration and art. She then encourages all to share and participate in art under the Great Artist.

This is a good resource for those interested in a full exploration of inspiration in the creative arts.

A book on Inspiration for Art

Inspiration with an I and Art with an A because this book is written around this very two concepts. It's a philosophy of Inspiration, a whole book dedicated to all aspects of it.

This has been an interesting read and I am grateful to have received it in order to share my view on it. It is clear the author gave this subject a lot of thought and there are so many references and artists' opinions to support her ideas. It's great read for anyone passionate about art and intrigued by inspiration.

This is a book with a very distinct spiritual flavor, almost religious as it connects inspiration with God. So many of these ideas were revelations or thoughts I also visited, but there were also ones that didn't resonate with me. However, this is ultimately a book worth reading for anyone looking for thoughts on art and the mysterious way in which it reaches its artist.

A solid Christian exploration of the mystery of creative inspiration and how it informs our understanding of God and the practices of artistic expression.

(I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)
