Personally I found this book a bit tedious to get through. The characters all seemed to run together and felt very two dimensional to me.
This is my first time reading something by this author and it definitely won't be my last.
This is a gripping thriller that kept me guessing until the very last page. The author does a masterful job of weaving together suspense, mystery, and a touch of the sinister.
Polly attends an art retreat at Lakeside House in an attempt to relieve some of the stress in her life caused by recent events, namely dealing with a stalker. Her biological mother once lived here, and she sees this as an opportunity to maybe find out more about her. But the tale soon turns sinister as she learns everyone there has something to hide and danger seems to be lurking around every corner.
Lakeside House already has a history of death, and as the story unfolds, strange things begin to happen, creating a sense of creepiness and dread. The intrigue and mystery kept me on the edge of my seat, anxiously reading to find out what happens next.
If psychological thrillers are your cup of tea, then this is one book I would definitely recommend!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
The blurb of "Now You Are Mine" piqued my interest, and I was eager to dive into reading it. However, as I began, it became apparent that my enjoyment wouldn't match my anticipation. The story felt implausible, and the characters were such that I couldn't form a connection with them, leaving me indifferent to their fates.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.
Sad to say that this is a thriller like every other out there. Nothing I will remember but I enjoyed the reading. Thank you to the author, the publisher and to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for my honest review.
Now You Are Mine is one of those books that intrigued me because of the mystery surrounding her mother and her family. Plus, I like stories that revolve around sinister events from the past whereby the net generation has to go hunting for clues about mysterious disappearances and secrets. How I love secrets! This had all the elements that I love in a story. So, where did it go wrong? Well, I actually found a lot of it implausible and although I can suspend some level of belief, there is definitely a limit. And I wasn't a fan of the main character.
The overall character development was one-dimensional which made it really difficult to root for the characters or really care what happened to them. I didn't really care that they were written in both first and third person as I don't think that was the problem, but I am writing this almost two months later from my notes, and if I hadn't written those notes, I would not recall who was who as they were all bland.
The first part of the book was the most interesting for me as I was intrigued by the mystery and I was interested in the setting and the threatening notes the new owners were receiving. You have Polly's artwork being tampered with, some of the characters are behaving weirdly, other characters are definitely hiding things from their friends and their significant others, and then one of them just disappears. Looking at all those things, it should have been a fascinating read, but the execution of it all just didn't work and felt excessive, like the author was trying too hard to create all of these strange scenarios, but couldn't keep track of all the threads. And because the characters weren't all that engaging, I just couldn't get invested in the story and what was happening, flipping through the pages just to get to the end.
I did enjoy the atmosphere of this book and thought the setting was intriguing, but then I love tunnels and secrets, so that was the part I enjoyed the most. I was actually grateful for the multiple POV as it gave me a break from Polly's story line as I found her irritating at times, and it was nice to learn what happened in the past and how it affected the future.
Now You Are Mine had a lot of elements that were interesting, but issues with character development and pacing definitely impacted the overall reading experience. Some of the twists were a bit hard to believe, and overall, I found the book to be a bit forgettable with an average plot and average characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house, and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review, based upon my honest opinion.
Polly signs up for a painting retreat, but the real reason that Polly has signed up is not to learn to paint, but it’s to seek information about her birth mother. Polly knows she is adopted, but knows nothing much about her mother only that she died at while giving birth to Polly. Mysterious things start happening right away, someone puts an unwelcome addition to Polly’s painting, strange letters are being delivered to the manor, people just aren’t what they seem to be. As Polly gets closer to finding the truth she finds she may be in danger.
This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed a lot of things about this book, but sometimes I found myself losing track of what was going on. Overall, I would definitely read another book by this author.
Now You Are Mine throws the reader straight into such an atmospheric setting which is wonderful for transporting you right into the story with the characters. Amanda Brittany writes beautifully and is a master of plot twists you'll never see coming!
The only thing I really found myself struggling with was the different POV for one character, that made it hard to stay on task and threw me out of the storyline a few times.
Another fantastic book by Amanda. Her books are utterly amazing. I loved the the different povs in this book and how easy it was to follow. Highly recommend this book to everyone
I enjoyed this thriller and it was hard to put down. The ending felt quite jumbled to me, as there were multiple different plots and twists unraveling together. The writing was great. Only a couple of the twists I felt like were disappointing and shouldn’t have been added.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy of this ARC. This book is out now!
NOW YOU ARE MINE By Amanda Brittany
A remote lakeside house. Six strangers with something to hide.
Who's out for revenge? Who will survive? When Polly signs up to an art retreat in the Lake District, it's an escape from the stress of recent months, when a stalker preyed on her and her friend.
It's also an opportunity to find out more about her family Polly believes her biological mother once lived here, at Lakeside House.
But things quickly turn sinister. The previous owners supposedly took their own lives here, years before – and the glamorous new owners are now receiving disturbing threats. Someone is sabotaging Polly's artwork. The five other guests on the retreat all seem to be hiding something.
Then one of them goes missing.
Is someone trying to scare Polly? Do the creepy goings-on have anything to do with the family she never knew? Or has the stalker followed her to Lakeside House, and is now hiding in plain sight?
😊What i liked -

✔ Past and Present timelines with 3 Pov's. This actually made it interesting.
✔ A few mysteries and secrets all coming together. It was interesting to see it all coming together.
✔ Complex characters and a few unlikeable characters.
✔ A well thought book.
🤔What could have been better -
✔ Though I liked being kept on my toes, with so much happening it became challenging.

Thank you, Amanda Brittany, for a copy.
Utterly twisty and turning. Kept me on the edge of my seat with great charecter development. I really enjoyed pollys development and wits
Polly also knows her mother died giving birth to her but doesn’t know much about her past. All she has is a picture of a house. When she has the opportunity she goes to Lakeside on an art retreat to learn more about her mom. At first the book was slow since there’s a lot of characters that aren’t necessarily captivating or fully flushed and I struggled remembering who was who. Later on the book/story picked up and the ending was explosive. Polly was mostly likable with some flaws that make her annoying but under the circumstances made sense. I would recommend to have a quick character guide to help keep track of who is who.
This one started out really strong for me and then fell flat. I didn't really connect with the characters and that's a huge part of my ratings.
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of Now You Are Mine by Amanda Brittany
I enjoyed most of this novel, it's the first I've read by this author. I liked the story line and the characters were ok, I felt they could have more depth, I did find it a little draggy at times. I think there were too many characters to follow or too many involved in what was happening. I was bored at times and struggled to keep reading, although it is an easy read. The beginning of the book had me hooked, then it started to peter off a bit
I would still read more by this author
Really enjoyed it and would give it 3.5 stars. I was hooked from the start and couldn't wait to find out who was behind the murders and the dumping of the bodies .Nothing good was going to come from the art retreat at Lakeside House. The place was full of secrets. Would you really want to stay somewhere after the former owners disappeared after a murder/suicide pact and were never found? Xander and Tara kept receiving threatening notes to leave Lakeside. The place is destined for something bad to happen. Polly's only reason for being in the Lake District is to find out information about her biological mother who just happens to be connected to the Lakeside House. Plus she happens to have a crazy stalker. Strange things start happening to Polly. I immediately suspected the motley crew of guests at the art retreat. They all seemed to be hiding something. It had to be someone at the retreat. Either a guest, the owners or someone who worked there. Everyone was highly suspicious. As soon as Polly sent the picture to Nicky, I knew that the stalker would be one of them. Just who would it be? The whole roommate situation with Nicky threw me for a loop. I had a different picture of Nicky in my head. I made the wrong assumptions about Nicky. There were so many twists and turns. I kept changing my mind about who was behind everything. When the truth was finally revealed about the stalker, he/she was definitely missing a few (a ton) of marbles. Who puts that much effort into trying to kill someone? A psychopath!!! The biggest surprise was what happened to Elijah.
Definitely recommend the book. It was a great mystery/thriller that kept me guessing until the end. Enjoyed the story, characters and writing style. Lakeside House seemed to be a lovely place to stay and do art until you become isolated due to torrential rain and there's a killer on the premises. Look forward to reading more books by the author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Boldwood Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book starts off with a bang with two bodies being dumped. As the plot develops, we discover who these people are and what happened to them. The writing style was very descriptive, and I enjoyed feeling like I was in the setting with the characters. There was a sense of foreboding throughout, and it made this a suspenseful ride. Dual timelines and multiple POVs lend to make a complex story. The ending was very unexpected! This was an enjoyable read.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A fast paced thriller told from multiple points of view.
This i a perfect book to settle down with on an autumn night, full of intrigue and suspense it kept me well gripped
We love a fast-paced thriller with multiple POVs.
The characters were believable and unnerving in their own ways and I was kept on the hook trying to decipher what was going to happen next.
This was an atmospheric psychology thriller that has some twists and a sense of dread throughout. It's set at a house on a lake in England. The house has a dark history. Six individuals are staying there for an art retreat. Each character has secrets, and reasons for attending the retreat. Polly is trying to escape a stalker and find some relaxation. She is also searching for her birth family. While there, strange things start happening and Polly starts to feel like she cannot trust anyone there and that possibly her stalker has followed her. This one started out strong but the middle felt on the slow side. It did amp up towards the end though. A decent read.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This was a gripping psychological thriller that drew me in right away. Polly heads to a remote art retreat, trying to escape her stalker and learn more about her family, but things quickly take a dark and unsettling turn. With mysterious disappearances, sabotage, and increasing danger, Polly begins to wonder if her past is catching up with her or if something even more sinister is going on.
The creepy setting of Lakeside House adds to the tension, and Amanda really knows how to keep the suspense building with every twist. The story jumps between past and present, with different POVs, making it hard to know who to trust. Polly is a strong MC, and her determination to uncover the truth kept me hooked. There are a lot of characters to keep track of at first, but the story picks up quickly and I found myself flying through the pages.
The book deals with some tough subjects like domestic abuse, racism, suicide, and child abuse, so it’s important to be aware of those themes. Overall, it's a fast-paced read with plenty of surprises that kept me guessing until the very end.
Thank you so much Amanda, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this arc copy🫶
