I haven't read the first books in the series but I didn't mind it. It's a good police crime novel. Nothing more and nothing less.
Thank you to the author, the publisher and to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for my honest review.

The second one I have read in this series (I missed the second one i the series) , the characters are definately more established . I like the setting, somewhere on the edge of the Moors/dales in Yorkshire. In this book, a body is discovered by two young brothers. The cause of death seems to echo similar crimes from 30 years ago and the boys could not say much about the perpetrator. The book is told from different viewpoints as the team start to investigate the murder(s). The team also have their own personal problems, some involving the local crime gang, the Kings . All in all a quick , interesting and easy read, though there are still unresolved issues near the end.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

Third in the series but a first for me.

The book follows 2 different times 1993 and present day and the murderer is introduced at the beginning (1993) fast forward to the present were Anna and her team are called to the discovery of a mutilated body in an abandoned warehouse.

A solid police procedural that lets you delve into the psych of the perpetrator, descriptive graphic writing that added to the intensity and engagement.

I want to thank NetGalley and the author for allowing me Read and share an honest review. I have to say the first few pages were pretty graphic, but I think that fell away as the story went on. I did like the concept, it was one I had not read before, so that was nice. Not really anything to figure out, as you know the reasons behind the killings and who is doing the killings. The Author spent slot of time allowing us to get to know the police officers and detectives in the book. It almost felt like this book was written as a preview of the future series of these detectives.

If there as a series doing out of this book, I would definitely read it to see if it would be something I am interested in.

Fans of the TV series, Bones, will like the detailed descriptions of the murder scenes although this definitely has an English flavor (syntax and slang) instead of American. This was an interesting take on a traditional murder mystery because you know who the murderer is from the start. The reader gets an in depth view of the killer’s state of mind and reasonings. I liked following the police procedurals. Unfortunately, since I knew who the killer was and his motivations, the police discovery was anti-climatic. I did find it unusual that so many people knew about Anne’s and Peter’s covert operations as moles with the Kings gang.

DI Anna James has a nasty gruesome, gory set of murders to solve and she gradually realises that they are very similar to a set some years ago.. Her DCI is supportive and she has a strong team behind her but one is, perhaps, a mole working for a local gang. She herself is going undercover in the same gang. One of her team has recently extracted herself from an abusive, coercive marriage although the husband has yet to accept this. There are a lot of threads to follow and this does, sometimes muddy the waters. In many respects, what spoils it for me, is that we rapidly discover the murderer through his thoughts and rationale and therefore there is a lot of his back-story too. Anna is starting to realise that things are never black and white which is a good sign at least. The descriptions of the decomposing bodies through times go into immense details although I don't remember them actually mentioning adipocere. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

The Copy Cat is the 3rd book in the Detective Anna James series, I found this to be a good read. From the very beginning you know who is doing the killing, this is more about the detectives trying to find out who it is. This book was a little to creepy in places, how demented the killer was. I would still recommend it to others.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Joffe Books, and I am leaving my review voluntarily.

Extremely gruesome first few pages, which continued throughout the book. Even though the killers were unmasked at the beginning, the story delved into the reasons behind the killings. A fast paced psychological thriller, well worth reading. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This was a trip of a story and really was psychological as we meet the killer right away and are in his mind all through the book. For this one we have DI Anna James who is going through personal things but does a great job with navigating what happened to the body that was discovered. This has some pretty crazy stuff in it mentally and is very unique which is exactly what I want to see more of.

Another cracking read !! This is book 3 in the DI Anna James series. Anna is a no nonsense copper, but she is asked to date a member of the kings in order to get information that could put them all behind bars. There is still a spy in the camp and he is being watched but does he know it??
Rory dad killed many men in the 90s and Rory had watched with fascination........
There's a killer on the loose audit looks like they may be copying the crimes of the 90s. Will the team crack the case? Do they have a copy cat?? And are they closer than they think?? Love the gore, but if you have a sensitive stomach, read with caution...... highley recommend

This book sucked me in right away. It was attention grabbing and interesting. Unfortunately, it felt like the story slowed down a lot as it went, and focused on parts of the story that were less interesting. Without spoilers, let's just say I wanted to focus solely on the murder investigation, but kept getting bits of stories about a gang and an ex-husband. It felt like too many stories were being told at once. That said, it was still a good story and plot. So 3 stars for me. 🙂

Another fabulous book in this series, It follows a similar gripping story line to the first two books. We get a better understanding of the characters with each book.. I look forward to reading more

Firstly I thank Joffe Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

How many thrillers do you read where the opening hands you the killer on a plate? Not many!

The details in this book are horrific - in a good way - and make you want to continue reading.

There are A LOT of characters in this book - so if you are one who struggles with multiple people to follow you might not like this.

Now - Im off to wash my eyes to get rid of some of the gruesome images this book produces!

Well I definitely don't want to live where Detective Inspector Anna James does,as no time has passed since the last stories and she has another killer to find, her team is imploding and she still has feelings for bad boy Parole, whats a girl to do?
I can't say i enjoyed this one as much as the previous novels as it was quite repetative in parts but it was still a good police novel and it wrapped up a few loose ends.

I jumped into Detective Anna's story line at Book Three of her journey and I still LOVED this story!

The descriptions of death, the state of decomposition, and everything in between was amazing; sheer bone-chilling detail. The body found in the abandoned warehouse sets the plot up to connect the two story lines that are to come. The narrator follows DI Anna, and Rory (the killer); although you know the killer off the bat, it did not take away from the plot but rather brought the narrations together. The book did lack twists, but with DI Annas team not knowing what is going on, but the reading does from Rorys perspective, it was really well done!

The King's Gang story line threaded its way through this book, specifically with DI Anna's character. This plot line was not relatively to the story of the Copy Cat; and since I did not read Book's 1 nor 2, I was confused a lot of the time during these chapters.

A 3.75 star rounded up; I would be curious enough about the King's Gang plot line to go back to. Books 1 and 2!

Thank you Emily Ellis, Joffe Books, and NetGalley for the eARC of this book. This is an honest review.

Wow the descriptions in this book were brutal..... but so good. It made it so much more realistic of a story that the reader could get immersed in, but I would not recommend if you are squeamish when it comes to descriptions for decomposition, death, etc.. However, it mostly happens in the first couple of chapters.

I appreciated that we got plenty of back story for the killer in this case during their POV chapters, however, I did miss the mystery behind finding out who the killer was and why they did it. The father was insane, so it was a great way to see how it affected his child and how it molded him to follow closely in his father's footsteps, and how it still affects him even after his father's passing.

Now, since I did not read the other books in this series, the gang plot line confused me (but I'm assuming it is a continuation from the previous books in this series). None of this was mentioned in the synopsis and had nothing to do with the copy-cat murders so it came as a surprise when it came time for those chapters. I felt like it took away from what I would say was labeled the main plot line of the book based on the title and synopsis.

Thank you to Emmy Ellis, Joffe Books, and NetGalley for the eARC of this book. This is my honest review.

Brilliant series with D I Anna James . This mystery involves Anna and her team when a copy cat killing from a spate 30 years ago raises again.
5 men 30 years ago went missing and envelopes were sent to their wives along with Guinea pig fur, when a body is discovered the. The wife receives the letter Anna’s team finds more than they knew about the killings years ago.
Loving this series and can’t wait for more

detective Anna James #3

Two young boys head to an old abandoned warehouse to drink alcopops and hang out. When they barge the door open, a swarm of rats scurry to the other side of the room. The eldest of the two boys pans his phone torch over where the rats had come from. Dark patches. Clothes. A suit. A green tie. A man. The victim has been slashed with a knife and rats have eaten his face. DI Anna James is called in to investigate.

This is a descriptively written book that might make some readers feel queasy. Once again, we know who the killer was from the beginning of the book. There are quite a few characters and timelines. Anna and her team are called in to investigate. The pace is steady, the characters are well-developed. This series gets slightly better with each new book.
