This is the second book I've read from T.J. Newman and I liked this book so much more than the other.

A commercial airplane crashes into a nuclear power plant and cuts the small town off from the rest of the world. Due to the location of the plant, if it reaches the status of meltdown the impact can affect so much of the land/ country. There are multiple subplots with different POVs and each one is intriguing. It's almost like there are two different books happening at once but it does open the world up and shows the reader how an event can affect many individuals simultaneously.

I was lucky enough to be approved for an early copy of the eARC and audiobook. I very highly recommend the audiobook. The narrator does a fantastic job with voices and acting that really made this feel like a movie. Also, the audiobook has some sound effects when it comes to radio transmissions that was a nice touch. There was a lot but an appropriate amount of this in the book to make this effect beneficial.

This is “dude flick” thriller to the max. It's so exciting and has so many explosions and carnage. So if you like those type of movies then you'll love this book.

However, this book also has a lot of heart. The reason I didn't care for the other book I read from Newman is that the “heroes” were infallible and no one else could solve the problem except them. In Worst Case Scenario the protagonists were very much human. They cared and made sacrifices but also mistakes. I became attached to many of the characters and I teared up at times.

I highly recommend this if you're looking for a thrilling page turning book but also want your heart wrenched.

Thank you Netgalley and Hachette Audio for allowing me to read this book early for an honest review.

I'm the biggest TJ Newman fan, and WORST CASE SCENARIO only solidified this fact further. I've rated each of her books five stars, and somehow they keep getting better every time! I can honestly say this one was by far my favorite.

This author can paint a picture like no one else. My favorite books are always the ones I can vividly picture in my mind, and TJ does this so well. I felt like I was in Weketa with these characters as I was listening, feeling it all alongside them. Joe Morton's narration absolutely made the emotions come alive.

I know nothing about nuclear power, but I felt that I could easily picture this power plant and feel the pressure of the global threat if these characters couldn't contain the fallout. I felt so strongly for the characters in this book, and love how they all come together for the good of the town and the nation.

I only wish this book was longer! No pressure, TJ, but I already can't wait for your next novel.

I have mixed feelings about this book - yes I’m an outlier. While it was indeed an adrenaline rush, I was less impressed with the characters. I thought there were WAY TOO MANY CHARACTERS in this novel. It’s hard for me to get fully invested when there are some characters that are central to the plot and another large handful that are ancillary characters.

PROS:

*** Interesting premise

*** I enjoyed the central characters: the firefighters, the people in charge of the power plant, the residents of the town of Waketa, Minnesota who tried to keep the residents informed during a complete power failure, etc

*** I liked the townspeople coming together for the good of everyone. I think that this has been proven time and again when tragedy strikes in a small, rural community.

CONS:

*** This could have been called an apocalyptic thriller since none of the events are based on real occurrences

*** I thought that “FALLING” had a well described and intricate plot while this book was really a lot of “what if this happened”, “what if that happened”.

*** I would have enjoyed a smaller cast of characters that were well developed and that I could really care about

This book did deliver an adrenaline rush as promised and it was entertaining while also being a nail biter.

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. I received the audiobook from NetGalley and Hachette Audio.

I enjoyed the audiobook the most as the narrators did a great job and their voices added to the tension in the novel.

I discovered T. J. Newman with her debut book, Falling. I was blown away at how it was such an edge of your seat thriller. When Drowning released, I was all in and it was even crazier and more action packed than her first book if that’s even possible. Both books took place on airplanes.

Newman’s third book starts off on a plane with a bang and really never stops… Ever. It’s extreme action packed from the first page. I was trying to read this one late at night and had to stop. I was getting too worked up and needed to relax to be able to sleep, so had to switch and read this during the day or early evenings.

In Worst Case Scenario, a pilot has a heart attack and dies while flying a large passenger plane. The plane ends up crashing into a nuclear plant and puts the whole world in jeopardy almost causing an apocalypse.

I absolutely fell in love with the brave men and women who tried to save the world or even just one child. I had to read the last few chapters twice because… that ending! The feels!

I both listened to the audiobook as narrated by Joe Morton, and then went back and reread major sections by ebook. I thought Joe Morton did a good job with the narration.

T. J. Newman is one of my autobuy authors now since all 3 of her books so far have been 5 star reads for me. Not sure how she’ll top Worst Case Scenario.

*Thanks so much to Hachette Audio, Little Brown and Co., and NetGalley for the advanced copies!*

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

T.J. Newman has done it again with "Worst Case Scenario"! This thrilling addition to her previous masterpieces, "Falling" and "Drowning," is nothing short of spectacular. Newman masterfully weaves her real-life experiences as a flight attendant into her narratives, creating pulse-racing and heart-throbbing tales that keep you on the edge of your seat.

In "Worst Case Scenario," Newman plunges us into a high-stakes disaster when a pilot's heart attack at 35,000 feet results in a commercial airliner crashing into a nuclear power plant in Waketa, Minnesota. The small town becomes ground zero for a catastrophic event that escalates to an unprecedented Level 8 on the International Nuclear Event Scale. This gripping story showcases ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances, displaying unparalleled courage, ingenuity, and determination to save their community and humanity. Newman's ability to craft such intense, emotionally charged, and realistic scenarios is simply unparalleled. This book is a must-read for thriller enthusiasts and a testament to Newman's growing legacy in the genre.

***Thank you NetGalley and T.J. Newman for the ARC read***

I'm a big fan of T.J. Newman's thrillers, so I couldn't resist requesting an audio ARC when I saw it pop up on Netgalley. I was over the moon to be actually approved, and I've been excited to start listening to it ever since. I tend like my thrillers on the fast and engaging side, and this is exactly the type of thriller T.J. Newman always seems to offer. Worst Case Scenario is no exception to that rule and offers us an exhilarating race against the clock, where more is at stake than ever before. WHAT a read!

I love how the author always incorporates a plane theme in her books. Plane crashes and disasters on board are maybe not something you want to read about when you are about to board a plane yourself, but they do make for excellent thriller material! Worst Case Scenario takes this theme to the next level, and focuses not only on a plane crash (which is bad enough on its own), but also what can happen if the plane crashes into the worst possible location: a nuclear power plant. Spoiler: a possible global nuclear disaster, that's what! This time around the plane crash plays only a minor role in the plot, and the main focus is on the aftermath.

It's true that I don't exactly listen to a lot of audiobooks; not because I don't enjoy them, but because it takes me twice as long to get through a story this way. Sometimes it's worth it though, and I'm definitely glad I got to experience Worst Case Scenario in this format. The narrator Joe Morton has a voice that is easy to listen to and he is able to portray the different POVs in a way that made it easy to understand which character was in the spotlight. I particularly liked the special effects whenever he narrated a megaphone/radio conversation or announcement; it added an authentic feel to the situation.

Worst Case Scenario uses a multiple POV structure, and there are quite a lot of characters in play. Initially it was a bit daunting especially on audio, but as soon as I decided to just sit back and let the story wash over me it became easier. With everything that is happening after the plane crash, it becomes quite easy to start keeping the different key characters in play apart, and it is very easy to start rooting for them along the way. This book isn't all disaster, emergency and survival, as there is also some focus on the background of the characters and their own struggles along the way.

What I particularly loved about this story was how it showed how a town came together to help each other after the crash, working together to get it done. The same goes for the people at the power plant itself of course, and then we have the situation on the bridge with the firefighters. This story showed humanity in a crisis, and how hope can be found when everything seems lost... And difficult sacrifices that have to be made along the way. Without doubt a powerful message!

If you like your thrillers on the dark, twisted and exhilarating side, you will definitely enjoy this race against the clock to stop a nuclear disaster. Worst Case Scenario is yet another successful thriller and has only reconfirmed my love for T.J. Newman's writing.

Worst Case Scenario starts off with a pilot in a medical emergency and the race to try and right the plane, which ends up crashing into a nuclear power plant in Minnesota. The plot then follows community members as they rush to help throughout the community and inside the plant.
I listened to this ARC on audio and it was great! Super fast passed and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Definitely a bit terrifying!

I am obsessive about reading my arcs in pub date order, but I made an exception for this one. I had to pick it up ASAP (and binge it in less than 24 hours).

I absolutely loved Drowning last year, amd somehow this one is even better. A plane crashes into a nuclear power plant in Minnesota (which is where I live!). My heart was racing the entire time as we watched people come together and attempt to save literally the entire world.

The audiobook is amazing, highly recommend that format. The production is incredible. The way the talking over the radio sounds like a radio is so immersive. Plus I could listen to @joethemorton's voice all day.

Warning, this book made me cry more than any other book has in years. Just when I thought I was done sobbing, some other problem would arise and I'd start again. (Another reason to listen because I could not have read through my tears)

Hold onto your seats, folks! TJ Newman's third book is here, and it's a rollercoaster ride from start to finish! I couldn't put this one down—it’s that gripping. The story kicks off with a bang as a plane plunges towards Earth, destined to crash into a nuclear plant. Talk about a heart-pounding start!

As the characters scramble to solve one life-threatening problem after another, I found myself frantically flipping pages on my Kindle. The tension, the fear—it’s all there, keeping you hooked. Newman has a rare talent for writing a book that not only educate but also keep you on the edge of your seat. She absolutely nailed it with this one!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Little, Brown, and Company for letting me dive into this ARC. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this pulse-pounding read!

Really have enjoyed these books! The author pulls at our heart strings and keeps us on the edge of our seats over and over again. The descriptions of the plant and the life saving heroics of the workers were the best part. I highly recommend. But maybe skip these if you’re going to fly any time soon.

Strap in for a wild, gripping, emotional, heart-stopping ride!

I didn't love T.J. Newman's first two books. They were fasted pages and gripping but I found they lacked something. Worst Case Scenario was not lacking that something! The emotional hold this book had on me can't be described. From the unthinkable happening to things getting worse by the minute, you are immersed in this story and invested in each of the characters.

I definitely recommend the audio of this one, too! Joe Morton does a phenomenal job narrating. His delivery gave me goosebumps! And I love the added sound effects like the CB radio and megaphone. It really added to the story.

There were a few loose ends that I didn't find wrapped up completely. Otherwise, prepare yourself and jump into this book as soon as you can!

This is one of the most thrilling, and amazingly suspenseful books I’ve ever read! The intensity and action did not stop from the beginning to the end. It’s a book where I found myself holding my breath during most of it! The story is such a gripping one, that involves a nuclear disaster and the fate of the world! This story has it all; There is sadness, thrills, love, and such deepness involved.
This is my first book from this author and I’m so excited to check out her other books!

I listened to the audio version of this book and the narrator did a fantastic job.

Thank you to NetGalley for an audio copy of this exciting thriller!

Another classic from T.J. Newman. Many ask if you need to read Falling and Drowning first. My answers is YES!! Not because you need it to make sense of the story, but more because they are excellent reads that everyone should experience.

In this action thriller, plane crash meets nuclear power plant disaster. You get the perspectives of those on the flight, firefighters, politicians workers at the power plant, and more.

This story did a nice job of explaining the danger for those of us who are not nuclear scientists ! It will make you cry, sweat, stress and drop your jaw. Highly recommend !!

The narration was excellent and kept me stressed and on edge for the entire 8 hours ! I loved the speaker audio change when they were talking over radios.

Thank you to NetGalley, Little Brown and Company and Hachette Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Check this out on release date 8/12/24!

This story was a rollercoaster! There was so much happening right from the beginning - all the way to the very end. At times it felt very overwhelming and outlandish... but I feel like that comes when the territory with reading a book about a catastrophic disaster. If you decide to pick up this action-packed story, I would definitely recommend the audiobook. The narrator was amazing and it felt like I was listening to a movie. For sure the kind of movie Glen Powell would star in. *wink wink*

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

I enjoyed this. Having just finished a long (and terrific) series involving nuclear ☢️ drama (here a plane hits a power plant, in the series there was a nuclear war) I was worried it would feel a little stale or repetitive but aside from discussing a few medical issues it was very different.

For me, the ending was👌and I also enjoyed the light audio enchantements made. At times it did feel a little long and I started to tire of the relentless “another thing happened” to make the stakes higher and more emotional. I felt like the author was trying to twist the knife to make me cry and it wasn’t necessary.

Finally the cover… this is another book with a cover and title that doesn’t fit. While it does at least make sense with the story (and is explained directly by the author at the beginning), it doesn’t evoke what the story is actually about…

Overall, this was a good and will provide a fresh plot and story for those who read a lot of books. I liked the authors first book and was so/so on the second, if that helps you decide.

A pilot on a commercial jet liner suffers a heart attack which sets off a devastating chain of events. In a small town in Minnesota, all are preparing for a holiday weekend when the unthinkable occurs. A plane crashes into their nuclear power plant. With only hours before the disaster becomes a level 8 emergency, the first responders and plant employees must race against the clock to prevent any additional loss of life. Heart pounding, emotional, and tense, this exceedingly entertaining thriller is perfect for fans of BEFORE THE FALL by Noah Hawley

What is it about? A commercial airliner crashes into a nuclear power plant causing a global threat. It was about survival and the individual vs the whole. Radical and conservative people and their reactions to a dystopian situation creates the reader to plunge headfirst into the story.

The characters: well-written. Relatable. Complex.

How I felt about it? This was what I would describe as an “adventure thriller.” This was exciting, sad, powerful, and made me want to stand up and cheer for the people and what they went through. Easily a 5 ⭐️ read.
