From houseflies to hippos . . . here are some unique poems about how a variety of creatures eat. I also liked the brief shoutout to the poor mayfly, whose time on earth is too brief to bother with a meal.

With wonderful illustrations by Giles Laroche.

This is a well written book that is brought to life with some wonderful illustrations.

The book had some great details and facts and I liked the layout. I love reading books like this with my daughter as it always sparks her interest to find out more.

"Poems about how creatures eat."
This was such a fun, informative read - I (an adult) learnt a few things from this book. However, I do think the poetry/verse itself is a wee bit advanced for some of the creatures for children to understand, but we (my son and I) definitely enjoyed it.

*The artwork was crisp and beautiful.

** My son's favorite poem was the "Koala" (mine too), because same, lol.

Thank you Charlesbridge & NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A sweet little book, not particularly memorable or very informative, but cute. It contains poems, illustrations and some more informations on some species at the end.

This collection of original short poems describes how animals eat, from a fly that vomits on its food to soften it, to bats using echolocation to catch insects. Each poem is titled with the name of the animal. Full color cut paper collage illustrations accompany each poem in a format similar to a picture book, showing the animals in their natural habitats. The book ends with a section with suggested books to read and more information on each animal, adding to the few facts mentioned in each poem. This is a clever way to show how various animals consume their food using examples of rhyming and free verse poems. Review based on an ARC.

I was so impressed with this book. The illustrations are gorgeous and will definitely keep a child’s attention. The poems are clever and fun. The last few pages focused on facts about the animals featured was definitely my favourite thing about this book. I did also like that it suggested other books for young readers if they wanted to learn more.

A very artistic take on teaching kids how different animals each. The poems were lovely, but not my personal favorite style of reading in this format. And the illustrations were very textured and intricate.

I think three stars is low, but four is a bit high. I would say 3.5 is where it is at.

The poems are okay. They are mainly blank verse. Some are pretty cute, but nothing knocked my socks off. The artwork, on the other hand, did catch my attention. Great work there! I also thought the section in the back where there were some brief nonfiction prose descriptions of some of the animals.

Overall, I would say it is pretty good, but not great.

What a unique book! The illustrations are amazing works of art, and the poems, with a tiny bit of repetition ideal for children, are as entertaining as they are educational. As a teacher, I can see this one becoming a classroom tool, and I have never seen one of its kind. I would now love to read the two previous ones by the author.

It was very interesting to learn what different animals eat via poetry, it's a very fresh take on nonfiction.
The illustrations are amazing and the poems are short and fun, great for small children.

Really gorgeous illustrations, an interesting assortment of animals. It would be a great tool in the classroom. I liked the addition of notes at the back of the book with more detailed description- great for older children of reading ages.

Wild Brunch is a cute collection of poems about the eating habits of many animals. There are 3 parts: swimming eaters, land based eaters, and flying eaters. The author also mentioned the adult mayfly that doesn’t typically eat at all. The book is educational and fun. The illustrations look like paintings. The most enjoyable poems, in my opinion, were about the turkey vulture and koala as I appreciate rhyming poems. I couldn’t get the flow right when reading some of the others to my children. They enjoyed the information in the back of the book about the animals. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Fantastic! This book takes scientific facts about the eating habits of animals and presents them via the artistic medium of poetry. A fun and unique way to engage more artistically inclined learners.

Wild Brunch is a picture book with beautiful illustrations of animals eating in the wild, and fun poems for each one. I really loved the illustrations, and some of the poetry was delightful. I did feel like a few of the poems did not have quite the right cadence, but that was probably a personal preference.

Thanks to NetGalley, David Harrison, and Charlesbridge for the chance to read and review. My opinions are my own.

WILD BRUNCH has such captivating illustrations with fun poems about the eating habits of different animals, from hippos to jellyfish, narwhals to piranhas. While geared to readers 5-9, this adult found it delightful!

A solid addition to a picture book poetry collection, the Wild Brunch combines short poems with intricately layered collage style illustrations of familiar animals. As with any collection, different readers will connect with different poems and illustrations but in general the animals chosen for inclusion comprise a greatest hits list for many young readers. While the spoken word style of the poetry may not appeal to a younger audience and makes reading this volume aloud a bit challenging, many of my younger patrons will enjoy the bristles on the fly, the pointy teeth of the piranha, and the bloody beaks of the vultures. The addition of informational end matter and "learn more" resources for each animal is a delightful bonus that will be enjoyed by older readers and caregivers alike. Thank you to NetGalley for access to this arc.
