Cognitive decline is not your destiny. You can improve your brain function through small steps taken every day. Heal Your Gut, Save Your Brain, by gastroenterologist and health advocate Dr. Partha Nandi, highlights the latest research on the gut-brain connection and gives you a clear protocol for maintaining brain health and slowing or reducing the effects of neurodegenerative diseases as you age.

I found Heal Your Gut, Save your Brain to be a full-spectrum, comprehensive resource around basic gut health and its relationship with the whole body. I feel this book would be accessible to those just starting out along with those further down the road researching gut health. Being of the latter, I especially appreciated the sections on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. I also really enjoyed the recipes! There is a lot of good medical information in the book, but some of it is hard to understand. The recipes are a great addition to the book!

This book breaks down the science of the gut/brain connection in an easily understandable way. More importantly, it provides specific steps to take to improve health. I'm giving it four stars instead of five as I'm a vegan so I disagree that dairy, chicken, and fish are healthy options. That being said, lots of good information and some vegan recipes make this essential reading for everyone!

Thank you NetGalley and Mayo Clinic Press for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Reading this book opened my eyes to so many new and natural ways I can try and heal my gut without feeling I have to run to the doctors. I appreciate that the author put his own experiences with his problems and shared ways that helped heal his gut. Definitely going to be trying the recipes that he put in the book and will be doing more meditation. I didn’t know that it could affect your gut health. As someone who has chronic stomach problems I appreciate the approach’s and precautions that are talked about.

This book will give you a lot to think about! The author has personal experience with gut and brain issues and writes with warmth and compassion.
There are too many acronyms for my taste ( tip - write them down as you read) but the suggestions are sensible and the recipes at the end look good.

This is a fantastic resource and vital reading for anyone who wants to use the latest research around gut microbiome to safeguard their health against 3 major neurodegenerative conditions - stroke, Alzheimer's and Parkinsons.

The author shares their own story as to why they are personally invested in this area, and this real adds to the book by adding the warmth that comes with a human angle.

The books reads well and features a huge amount of information in addition to those all important practical strategies. The book concludes with a section on recipes - many of which sound truly delicious!

When I first picked up this book, I expected it to be another typical guide on gut-brain health focused on diet. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find it offers so much more.

What makes this book unique is that it’s the first book that I read talking about gut health that introduces The Five Pillars (nutrition, movement, purpose, community, spirituality) and offers a holistic solution at once. It blends Eastern and Western healing traditions, providing a fresh perspective on giving health advice. In addition, the insights offer practical changes to address diseases influenced by the gut-brain connection.

A particularly interesting feature is the collection of recipes at the end, aimed at improving gut health. This makes it easy to apply the book’s advice directly to everyday life.
