No one at her son's school likes Florence, she is not like the other mothers. when one of Dylan's classmates goes missing, she steps up with another mother to help search.
Florence Grimes is 31 and still reeling from her short stint in a famous-ish Girl Band. She and her 10 year old son Dylan are making it work in Englian as she bounces from one job to a next and begs her successful sister for funds. When Dylan's partner on a field trip goes missing she is afraid Dylan might have something to do with it. She springs in to chaotic action and actually teams up with another mother to try and solve the crime - all the while hoping the criminal doesn't live in her own apartment.
At times it's hard to like Florence, but she does shine through and it's a hilarious book. In a lot of ways, we have all felt like her, and can't help but root for her in the end. If you like an unusual protagonist, domestic thrillers thrown on their head or just want. a book that makes fun of English culture (Florence never assimilated after arriving from the USA) then this book is for you! @sarahharman #alltheothermothershateme

Thank you NetGalley, for this ARC of 'All The Other Mothers Hate Me', by Sarah Harman - expected release date 03/11/2025.
Soooo Florence is a Hot Mess Express. She makes very questionable choices, is selfish and she needs to grow up. But...I liked her. And, considering all the other mothers hate her, I loved that she finally made a friend in Jenny. Jenny was my favorite character, by far. She brought Flo into reality
I don't think the author went deep enough into Mr Foster's character for him to be brought up, randomly, as a bad guy bomber at the very end. That huge twist felt thrown in last minute to tie out the fact that Flo felt ick towards him. The serial killer storyline seemed unnecessary since it had nothing to do with the main kidnapping storyline and didn't tie in in any way. She probably should've named Mr Foster as the killer, although with Dylan befriending him, that probably would've been too dark...
This wasn't my favorite book but also wasn't terrible so I'm giving it a 3. I didn't figure out 'whodunit' (the kidnapping) so kudos to the author for that, I was just as surprised as Flo!
This was a great thriller! Loved the dark humor and the relatable banter. This was a new to me author but I will definitely look to read more!
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the copy of All The Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman. Sorry to say that the other mothers might have hated Florence, and I did too. Her choices made no sense to me and she made so many bad decisions and did so many wild things she was so unlikeable it was hard to care about her. I loved Florence being a washed-up musician, but the story of her stalled career never really went anywhere. I wanted to love this book but the writing didn't grab my attention. The story picked up near the end, but it took a while to get there.
The three most important things for me are the writing, the characters, and the story, so this book wasn’t really for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
I loved this book! It was probably the most original book I've read in quite a while. I flew through it in one day. It was a great combination of humor and suspense. The main character is a flawed woman who routinely makes bad decisions, but I somehow found her sympathetic. The author did a great job bringing the characters to life and portraying the environment of an elite school with social-climbing, competitive parents. There were many ethical issues which arose, and they made the book more substantial than a light thriller. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. I look forward to reading more from this author, and I highly recommend this book.
All the mothers hate Flo in this book, and it's not surprising, she's judgemental, chaotic and unfriendly. If I was a mother at the school her son Dylan goes to, I'd hate her too. When one of Dylan's unlikeable classmates goes missing on an excursion to a wilderness centre, Flo pairs up with a new mum to the school (the much more likeable Jenny), to try to solve the mystery. Not because she cares about Alfie, but because she is worried her son Dylan may have been the cause of Alfie's disappearance.
Despite nearly everyone in this book being awful, it is a fun, fast read, and I liked Flo's back story as a washed up singer in a girl band.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an ARC of this book, due for release in 2025
I really love a flawed character getting the upper hand and making things right. I thought this book was very enjoyable and did not guess how things were going to turn out.
Humourous and a bit twisty. I enjoyed this comical mystery and thought the writing was very good. It kept
My interest and I was invested in the outcome for the
The main character and her son.
I really enjoyed this read! Many of the other reviews I checked out mentioned how unlikeable Florence is. I found her to be funny and quite endearing. Despite being a hot mess and making some questionable choices, she's a fierce mama bear intent on protecting her son. I surely wouldn't mind having her in my corner!! This is like a cozy mystery, satire and smidgeon of thriller all mixed into one, and a great way to pass a few reading hours.
Florence is an American woman who is an ex singer/performer. She is single mom to Dylan, and lucky enough to have him attend a fancy private school in London. One of Dylan‘s classmates, Alfie, goes missing at a school field trip. Immediately, Florence takes Dylan home, and begins to suspect he is the one behind Alfie‘s disappearance. Plenty of red herrings, twist, and turns, this is a story about a vigilante detective trying to solve a crime in order to save her kid. I didn’t guess the ending, but then again, I didn’t care that much either. This is an easy, breezy read. It’s a decent mystery, and can be read without much brain power. I enjoyed the story and would read another mystery about Flo and Dylan. My favorite character was Jenny, Florence’s partner in crime, so to speak. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin @Putnambooks for the ARC. book to be released March 11, 2025.

“All the Other Mother’s Hate Me” by Sarah Harman is a mystery that is humorous and a bit sad at the same time. It’s about a divorcee supporting her son by delivering balloons. She has no motivation since her girl band dissolved and is a mess. Her 10 year old son who attends a wealthy private school becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of one of his classmates. It becomes clear why the other mothers dislike her, but at the same time she uses crazy amateurish detective skills to protect her son. She proves to be self destructive and selfish but somehow we route for her success. The mystery is chaotic with many twists and turns but a quick fun read.
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Sarah Harmon’s newest book, All The Other Mothers Hate Me, was a solid women’s fiction read that most women will enjoy.
All The Other Mother’s Hate Me by Sarah Harman published on March 11, 2025 and I would be shocked if it doesn’t end up as a celebrity book pick and one of the biggest books of the year. Flo is unlikable, frustrating and very selfish but also completely engaging. She could have been unbearable but with Harman’s deft hand, she’s layered and flawed and perfectly chaotic. Flo’s inner thoughts made me laugh out loud numerous times. The mystery was solid and I appreciated how the other crimes sprinkled through out the book enhanced the conclusion. I would be shocked if this doesn’t get picked up as an adaptation of some kind.
All the Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman is a tricky book to rate. While I disagreed with almost every decision made by the main character, Florence, I couldn’t deny how much I enjoyed the mystery. It’s easy to see why all the other mothers have issues with her. Despite her flaws, the story kept me hooked. I’m giving it 4 stars for being an entertaining read with a messy main character.
This was extremely funny with some good twists thrown in. Florence is a hot mess but you want to root for her. Lots of good characters and drama. A solid 4 star.
I loved this book! It was just so much fun which may seem strange considering the subject matter but it’s the best description I have. I think it will be a big hit.
Florence Grimes is not like the other mothers at her son Dylan’s post private school. A member of a disbanded girl group that now works occasionally delivering balloons—her life is a mess.
When another child goes missing at a school field trip, Florence enlists the help of a newly arrived mother, Jenny, and the two of them get to work trying to solve the disappearance, because Florence has a sinking suspicion that her son may have had something to do with it. And she will do anything in her power to make sure Dylan is safe.
All the Other Mothers Hate Me was a fun one. Florence has a zany, chaotic quality about her and the action was constant. I did figure out one of the twists, but I still enjoyed it nevertheless. I would recommend this, especially if you like a good whodunit.
I received this free advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and feedback.
All the Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman made me laugh out loud and question whether I acted like she did in any way when my daughter was her son age. Florence (Flo) is a fomer girl band member now delivering balloons, has a very messy life, but loves her son more than anything.
When a child goes missing on a field trip and her son, Dylan, becomes the prime suspect, she and another mom go all out and trying to find the missing boy.
I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed the heck out of Flo - she lived a very chaotic life, but she loved her son and did what she had to do to exonerate him.
This book made me laugh and I enjoyed it immensely.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All views are my own.
Well, there is definitely a reason that all of the other mothers hate Florence – she's unbearable. She's immature and unreliable, a bad friend and mother, and she has some impressively bad decision-making skills. This book, however, is an absolute blast. I mean, sure, Florence is awful, but she's awful in the most entertaining way possible. Kind of a humorous train wreck, I guess you could say. I'm glad she's not a real person because (the British equivalent of) CPS would need to be called, like, yesterday, but as a fictional character she's pretty amusing.
When Florence's 10-year-old son Dylan becomes a suspect in the disappearance of one of his classmates, she decides to investigate the case in an attempt to direct the suspicion elsewhere. And, well, Florence is morally bankrupt so, you know, shenanigans ensue. Seriously, some of the things she did in this book literally made me gasp out loud. Florence is such a terrible person, y'all. I mean, she's not a serial killer or anything like that and she obviously cares about her kid (although not enough to not leave him home alone overnight while she goes on a date, mind you), but let's just say that this is not a book about a worried mother who works calmly and rationally with the authorities to ensure that proper justice is served.
The mystery (what happened to that asshole rich kid Alfie?) is a solid one, and while I kind of guessed at the big reveal a few times, I didn't truly figure out what was going on until Florence did. It's well-written and suspenseful and almost unputdownable. Florence isn't exactly Sherlock Holmes, but she doe share his love of cocaine so I guess there's that? (Or at least I think it was cocaine. I dunno. The drug was never specifically named and I'm not exactly Pablo Escobar here, you guys.)
So, yeah. If you enjoy mysteries with unlikeable main characters and humor and all kinds of drama, definitely consider giving All the Other Mothers Hate Me a read. It's a wild ride!
My overall rating: 4.35 stars, rounded down.
Many thanks to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for providing me with an advance copy of this book to review. Its expected publication date is March 11, 2025.
