I think I’m going to be an outlier on this one. I’m with the moms. And I’m not a mom.
Florence Grimes is a thirty-one year old former girl band member who had an embarrassing downfall and now she’s single and broke. Her reason for going on is her ten year old son, Dylan.
Dylan goes on a class trip and rich boy Alfie Risby, who bullies Dylan vanishes. Suddenly Dylan is the prime suspect and Florence has a purpose: to find Alfie to clear Dylan’s name. Of course, she has never skills and no idea how one man got go about doing that. Oh, and all the moms at the school hate her (for good reason.). And maybe Dylan is not so innocent. Maybe.
I thought I was really going to like this book, as it was witty (“her awful triplets - Trip and Teddy and, I dunno, Tryhard”) and seemed fun, but the longer it went on the more Florence grated on me. She’s a thief. Her mothering skills are….um…well, she loves him, I guess, but…. She does many abhorrent things to the point it just wasn’t fun for me to read about any more. I think a lot of people loved it and found it all funny. It just fell flat for me. I liked her friend, though, 2 stars.
All the Other Mothers Hate Me, by Sarah Harman, is a thoroughly enjoyable novel about a very unlikeable woman. Florence is pretty awful- but some of her thoughts and characteristics are definitely relatable. I loved following along as she investigates the disappearance of one of her son's classmates. This book is absolutely hilarious. Highly recommend!!!
WE can all see why the other mothers hate Florence. She is thoroughly unlikeable. Irresponsible, living in the past, just an all-around screw up.
Her only light is her son, Dylan. But honestly, she isn’t a great mother either.
Her son is being bullied by some rich kid at his rich kid school that his father pays for. Dylan is odd. And when the bully disappears, Dylan is the number one suspect.
Florence will use all of her non-existent skills to find the truth and the boy. Maybe.

All the Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman is such a fun book. I love the main character Florence, who is both unlikeable and quite droll. I laughed out loud reading this book, she is so relatable. There's a missing child and Flo's son might be the main suspect. This book is completely different from most mysteries and completely grabbed my attention. A fun read and solid mystery. Recommended.
An anti-heroine gets drawn into investigating the kidnapping of a child so she can protect her own son. The protagonist definitely made a lot of bad choices, but it was entertaining and kept the pages turning!
This booked has me hooked! Even though many of the characters were unlikeable, which usually makes the story drag on, it was not the case at all with this book.
Florence is a washed up pop star and a single mom. Her son, Dylan, is her opposite. He seems to deeply care about all living creatures. Whereas, aside from Dylan, Florence only cares about herself. A boy from Dylan’s school goes missing and Florence’s find herself trying to solve the disappearance.
Sarah Harman did a great job developing the story and the characters. It was a great mystery read and I look forward to reading more of her work. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC.
This book was one I went into with no expectations because it could have been written and plotted in so many different ways. I wasn't sure what to expect. But I absolutely loved it. The characters and the world building for this setting was perfect. I loved it.
I love how authors are increasingly using humorous narrators in psychological thrillers/domestic noir genres. It makes me like them more and often identify with them. This novel is a perfect example. Florence is a girl band singer, a drinker, occasional shoplifter and a mother who usually makes pretty bad decisions ut usually comes out on top. Mostly due to gut reactions and absurd luck. She is raising g a ten year old in a well to do London enclave where he attends an expensive private school Thanks Dad). When one of his classmates vanished during a field trip Flo begins to feel her son had something to do with it. She begrudgingly begins to investigate as she wants to divert attention from her son. An interesting mystery and it was fun to figure it out together.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sarah Harmon for an ARC copy of this book. I read this book in 2 days. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. There was a few stories going on at once. Florence had her hand in everything. Trying to protect her son Dylan at all costs. The end of the book was the only issue I had. I’m not sure what to think of it. Read it and enjoy!
No one at her son's school likes Florence, she is not like the other mothers. when one of Dylan's classmates goes missing, she steps up with another mother to help search.
Florence Grimes is 31 and still reeling from her short stint in a famous-ish Girl Band. She and her 10 year old son Dylan are making it work in Englian as she bounces from one job to a next and begs her successful sister for funds. When Dylan's partner on a field trip goes missing she is afraid Dylan might have something to do with it. She springs in to chaotic action and actually teams up with another mother to try and solve the crime - all the while hoping the criminal doesn't live in her own apartment.
At times it's hard to like Florence, but she does shine through and it's a hilarious book. In a lot of ways, we have all felt like her, and can't help but root for her in the end. If you like an unusual protagonist, domestic thrillers thrown on their head or just want. a book that makes fun of English culture (Florence never assimilated after arriving from the USA) then this book is for you! @sarahharman #alltheothermothershateme

This was a great thriller! Loved the dark humor and the relatable banter. This was a new to me author but I will definitely look to read more!
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the copy of All The Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman. Sorry to say that the other mothers might have hated Florence, and I did too. Her choices made no sense to me and she made so many bad decisions and did so many wild things she was so unlikeable it was hard to care about her. I loved Florence being a washed-up musician, but the story of her stalled career never really went anywhere. I wanted to love this book but the writing didn't grab my attention. The story picked up near the end, but it took a while to get there.
The three most important things for me are the writing, the characters, and the story, so this book wasn’t really for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
I loved this book! It was probably the most original book I've read in quite a while. I flew through it in one day. It was a great combination of humor and suspense. The main character is a flawed woman who routinely makes bad decisions, but I somehow found her sympathetic. The author did a great job bringing the characters to life and portraying the environment of an elite school with social-climbing, competitive parents. There were many ethical issues which arose, and they made the book more substantial than a light thriller. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. I look forward to reading more from this author, and I highly recommend this book.
All the mothers hate Flo in this book, and it's not surprising, she's judgemental, chaotic and unfriendly. If I was a mother at the school her son Dylan goes to, I'd hate her too. When one of Dylan's unlikeable classmates goes missing on an excursion to a wilderness centre, Flo pairs up with a new mum to the school (the much more likeable Jenny), to try to solve the mystery. Not because she cares about Alfie, but because she is worried her son Dylan may have been the cause of Alfie's disappearance.
Despite nearly everyone in this book being awful, it is a fun, fast read, and I liked Flo's back story as a washed up singer in a girl band.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an ARC of this book, due for release in 2025
I really love a flawed character getting the upper hand and making things right. I thought this book was very enjoyable and did not guess how things were going to turn out.
Humourous and a bit twisty. I enjoyed this comical mystery and thought the writing was very good. It kept
My interest and I was invested in the outcome for the
The main character and her son.
I really enjoyed this read! Many of the other reviews I checked out mentioned how unlikeable Florence is. I found her to be funny and quite endearing. Despite being a hot mess and making some questionable choices, she's a fierce mama bear intent on protecting her son. I surely wouldn't mind having her in my corner!! This is like a cozy mystery, satire and smidgeon of thriller all mixed into one, and a great way to pass a few reading hours.
Florence is an American woman who is an ex singer/performer. She is single mom to Dylan, and lucky enough to have him attend a fancy private school in London. One of Dylan‘s classmates, Alfie, goes missing at a school field trip. Immediately, Florence takes Dylan home, and begins to suspect he is the one behind Alfie‘s disappearance. Plenty of red herrings, twist, and turns, this is a story about a vigilante detective trying to solve a crime in order to save her kid. I didn’t guess the ending, but then again, I didn’t care that much either. This is an easy, breezy read. It’s a decent mystery, and can be read without much brain power. I enjoyed the story and would read another mystery about Flo and Dylan. My favorite character was Jenny, Florence’s partner in crime, so to speak. Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin @Putnambooks for the ARC. book to be released March 11, 2025.

“All the Other Mother’s Hate Me” by Sarah Harman is a mystery that is humorous and a bit sad at the same time. It’s about a divorcee supporting her son by delivering balloons. She has no motivation since her girl band dissolved and is a mess. Her 10 year old son who attends a wealthy private school becomes the prime suspect in the disappearance of one of his classmates. It becomes clear why the other mothers dislike her, but at the same time she uses crazy amateurish detective skills to protect her son. She proves to be self destructive and selfish but somehow we route for her success. The mystery is chaotic with many twists and turns but a quick fun read.
Thank you NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
