Fool Me Twice is the first book in the young adult If Only series by Mandy Hubbard. Fool Me Twice has an intriguing mash up of romance tropes, which is what initially drew me into the story. It is a mash up of the amnesia trope and the revenge trope. I know, it's an interesting combination. I liked Fool Me Twice. I found it to be a little predictable, but in a good way.
In Fool Me Twice, we meet our main characters, Mackenzie and Landon. Mackenzie and Landon were once a couple until Landon blindsided Mackenzie and broke up with her. When we fast forward to summer time, Landon has an accident which causes him to loose some of his recent memories....like the memory that he broke up with Mackenzie in the first place. Mackenzie then decides that this is the perfect opportunity to get some revenge on Landon. Her plan is predictably simple...play along as a doting girlfriend, get him to fall even harder for him and then she gets to be the one to dump him.
I liked both Mackenzie and Landon, but I will admit that I felt bad for Landon at times during the story, which is pretty typical for me with these types of revenge/prank stories. I just wanted to hug them both. Will Mackenzie get her revenge, will she fall for Landon again? Or will they decide they were meant to be together after all. Fool Me Twice is a cute, funny and feel good read. I really enjoyed this book.
I did not finish this book, and will not be reviewing it on my blog. I can see why it will appeal to some, but the revenge plot line and the amnesia don't work for me.
I really enjoyed this book, it's a fun and easy read. Actually, I read this one in one sitting and enjoyed every single minute of it. It is a little slow at the beginning but that didn't matter to me. Loved the writing style of this fantastic author and cant' wait to read more.
