A beautiful conclusion to the series. In the endnotes, the author notes how Lavinia made her way into the story, via the suggestions of editors who wanted to see more of her and I am glad she did.
She's a wonderful protagonist: strong and yet vulnerable and still struggling with the legacy of betrayal by somebody she loved.
Yates is great as well: all the antics of the Imposters when they are not solving mysteries are well worth the read and that's before the animals come into it.
Some of the characters from the author's previous titles make cameos, including the one and only Barclay Pierce, who you might remember from the Shadows over England series.
Roseanna M White has been one of my go-to authors for Edwardian fiction for some years, because of her realistic and interesting characters as well as the intriguing and fascinating plots which are not trite or cliched.
I may re-read this series actually as a refresher as its been some time since I read the first book. Recommended.
Slight trigger warning: this book deals with some controversial and difficult issues, including human trafficking but in a sensitive way.
Thanks to Bethany House for approving me for this title on Netgalley. This did not influence my opinions which are freely given and entirely my own.

This one was as wonderful as every other book in Roseanna M. White's latest series. I will eat up every single book she writes, every single time. I especially enjoyed the mystery in this one! The romance was great, and I appreciated the addition of another female POV, too. Loved it!

I loved getting back into the Tower with the Imposters and friends. Marigold's story was my favourite of all (in A Beautiful Disguise), and Yates was an intriguing character since the very first. However, of the entire series, this one held my interest the least. I think it was the love triangle, which felt forced. It was clear Lavinia and Yates were meant to be, so trying to put Alethia across Yates's path felt forced and unnecessarily added to the plot - or took away from, depending on how you look at it. I just wanted them together asap and was frustrated it took ages (and Marigold's interference as a loving sister most definitely caused the separation to last longer). I loved seeing characters from other RMW books pop up, and now I'm curious where she'll go next.
It's also worth noting this book tackles the heavy subject of abuse and trafficking. While talked about carefully and handled very sensitively, it may not be suitable for some of RMW's audience.
3.5 stars, rounded up for Goodreads.

I had been waiting for Yates’ own story since we met him in the first book of this series, A Beautiful Disguise, and @roseannamwhite certainly did not disappoint with it!
I adore Yates. He’s lovable and relatable and so witty. I often found myself chuckling along with his comments and thoughts. He is so perceptive and I loved that, especially given his chosen career. But what I love most about him is how caring and thoughtful he is!
Lavinia is that character that grows throughout the series. @roseannamwhite truly knows how to write a beautiful character. And Lavinia is so inspiring! She could’ve chosen to remain a victim, or in that mindset, but she chose life and to love instead after all she has been through. And what’s more magical than watching someone blossom before your very eyes?!
I genuinely love everything RW writes and every single time I think she can’t top herself, she always does. There’s something special about her words and the worlds they create and I vow to always shout from the rooftops my love for her 🩷

An Honorable Deception, by Roseanna M. White, is the third book in The Imposters series. With a stunning talent for pacing and detail, Ms. White has written a novel that flows beautifully and captivates with meaning and depth. Through varied settings, complex characters, and a riveting storyline, this book is truly special. Themes of forgiveness, family, perseverance, courage, justice, and faith provide significant meaning to a story that is altogether inspiring and moving.
Set in England just prior to WWI, the story unfolds with the characters attempting to solve a dangerous mystery that threatens the lives of many innocent women. As they endeavor to help those in danger, the characters find they must also rethink their assumptions and their goals for their futures. As they seek to live lives of purpose, they confront insecurities and grapple with important choices. Page after page, when the characters engage in meaningful moments and respond to surprising twists, the novel becomes especially remarkable, relevant, and touching.
This historical fiction novel is certainly creative, memorable, and intriguing. A compelling combination of history, peril, mystery, and romance make this book thought-provoking, and wholly enjoyable. An Honorable Deception is genuinely engaging and a pleasure to read. It is an impressive conclusion to a fantastic series, and I eagerly recommend it.

My Thoughts
An Honorable Deception is book three in the Imposter series that is written Roseanna M. White. I’ve not read the entire series and I had no problems following along.
This book drew me in within the first few pages and didn’t let me go until the end. One of the things that I love about this author is her ability to transport readers back in time. She flawlessly writes the Edwardian Era.
Yates agrees to bring his friend and longtime neighbor, Lavinia into the Imposters team. He definitely needs it since some team mates are going to be having babies. They take on a case with Lady Alethia, a case much bigger than they anticipated. She’s trying to find her former nanny and is shot while leaving a meeting.
I loved the mystery and suspense written in. I loved unraveling the characters. The author has written some tough subjects into the story, but counters that with the reminder of God’s love and grace.
Thank you to the author, publisher and JustRead Publicity Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

An Honorable Deception is a well written story that instantly pulled me in. It is a fast paced, intriguing and enjoyable read. It is creative and different from other books I have read in this genre. It is refreshing.
The characters are deep, interesting, fun and each have a story of their own. I am fond of the different points of view, it made me like the characters even more as I got to know them and where they were coming from.
I usually am not a fan of love triangles, but this one was done well without the usual stress and jealousy that comes with that trope.
I liked the mystery and romance. I enjoyed that the main characters get their happy endings and the awful ones got what they deserved.

Oh my . . . this series has the best kind of detectives. Who wouldn't like Aristocrats who own a circus? Wealth and poverty mixed but lots of class, brains, brawn, beauty and talent. I was thoroughly hooked on each word and truly love each character in this family of friends. You have to know what happens and there's such a big, righteous ending. Bravo!
I received this book free from the author, publisher and NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Lord Yates Fairfax, leader of the elite investigative firm the Imposters, is forced to abandon his anonymity when his client is shot after seeking his help. Meanwhile, Lady Lavinia Hemming uncovers the Imposters’ true identities and joins their ranks, all while grappling with her own haunting family secrets. As they delve into the darkest corners of society, they uncover shocking truths about the gentry, where honor and nobility are anything but guaranteed.
Having first met Yates and Lavinia in book one of this series, I was eager to see what was in store for them in book three. (I did miss book two, but these books standalone fairly well.) Yates is a charming, clever gentleman, and it was fun watching him navigate the double life he has been leading. Lavinia, dealing with the shadow of her mother’s treachery, was also interesting to follow.
I wasn’t expecting the story to bounce between Yates, Lavinia, AND the new client, Lady Alethia. I didn’t feel like the client’s perspective added much, since the case itself was intriguing without it. So, her romance didn’t interest me much.
Overall, the story was well plotted and interesting. It does deal with a bit of the darker side of Edwardian society, without being too detailed.
Readers who enjoy investigations and high society will enjoy this one.

If the book cover doesn't capture you right away then the storyline definitely will. This one of those series you have to read in order so that you can get to know all of the characters. I mean you could read it as a stand alone but you will enjoy it more if you have read the previous two. Yates story is not one to be missed. There is a lot to unpack in this story and it can get quite heavy but the author does a great job with the topic covered. She does a great job at making known that sin needs to be brought to the feet of Jesus. I loved one of the quotes from the story from Lavinia "sheltering us from the world doesn't spare our eyes from seeing the evil - it spares evil from the light that would reveal it.... it's only when we tear down those walls and look at the truth straight on that we can hope to change things."
There is a lot more in this story to enjoy too action, mystery and romance, although romance was more low key in the story it was still present and sweet.
I really enjoyed the story and if you are looking for a new historical fiction series to delve into this is the one you should add to your list!
I received a copy of his book for review. All views expressed are my own opinion

An Honorable Deception was a highly anticipated read for me and it was just as amazing a read as I had hoped! I was eager for Lavinia's story and Yate's story as well.
The romance was good and I was eager to see how the story would end. It was a bittersweet ending to me as I was sad to say goodbye to these characters...but I'm hopeful Roseanna will include these characters in future stories someday. 😊
The writing was fantastic and I had no trouble following the storyline or characters. The subject matter was sometimes a difficult one, but it brought to light evil and I loved the way the story concluded.
All in all, An Honorable Deception was a fantastic read and I highly recommend it. The whole series has been amazing and I think fans of historical romance will enjoy it. I can hardly wait for her next story!

I absolutely adore the Imposters series! I've been eagerly anticipating Yates's story, and this book did not disappoint. In fact, it's one of the best in the series. Yates's abilities as an imposter are truly remarkable, but what I love most is his tender heart for his sister and the people he cares about. His relationship with Marigold is incredibly sweet. The bond between the Imposters is fantastic. I admire how they wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to their investigations, always striving to serve with their utmost effort.
The romance between Yates and Lavinia felt very realistic to me. Yates loved Lavinia years ago, but she was ill and couldn't reciprocate his feelings. Now, she sees him as a man, but it seems like he may no longer be interested in her. I truly rooted for them. They both possess immense compassion for others and for each other.
The Imposters were instrumental in uncovering the truth about Lady Alethia's plight, which led them to witness the harsh realities faced by young women in society. I felt deeply sorry for Alethia and her former nanny. Yates and Lavinia did an outstanding job. I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting the characters from the previous books in the series.

5 stars

An Honorable Deception by Roseanna White is the 3rd book in the Imposter series by Roseanna White. Lord Yates Fairfax is the lead of the Imposters and meets his newest client, Lady Alethia, at a confessional box for a discrete meeting. The Imposters' new case is the hunt for a missing nanny, but Lady Alethia is shot as she leaves the church. Add in a love triangle, and that is just the start of a much more complex mystery complete with well-developed characters. White does not shy away from hard topics like sexual abuse and human trafficking.

Who do you call upon when you are a lady in society and need someone to discreetly investigate a matter? The Imposters, of course! Lady Alethia Barremore’s former ayah is missing and she fears the worst has happened to her. Things turn deadly and it’s up to Yates and his team of investigators to discover what happened to her. Things are not always as they seem, and I was guessing throughout the story who was behind the threats.
I love the Imposters and their unique talents and even more so now with the addition of a group of pickpockets and thieves that help with gathering evidence. The role that they played was perfect!
Things to Love:
confessional meetings
cloak and dagger
family and friends
witty banter
circus monkey
Romani family
Barclay and Lucy
faith over fear
exposing darkness
auditorium incident
This is the third book in the Imposters series. It can be read as a standalone, but it helps to have had some of the background of the other characters. The complex plot, fast-paced action, and romantic relationships make this a book that is hard to put down.
*Brothels, abuse, and trafficking are in the story, but not described in detail.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, NetGalley, and JustRead Tours. All opinions expressed are my own with no obligation to write a review.

Roseanna M. White has done it again with her newest addition to the Imposters Series, An Honorable Deception.
White has a way with details and building a story where one truly doesn’t know how the story will end, and this book is no exception. With multiple love interests and a case whose impact reaches farther than ever, you’ll be sure to enjoy this mix of mystery and Godly truth.
As the Imposters private investigator service continues to grow and welcome new members, Yates and Lavinia must decide if the past is truly best left in the past and exactly how much they are willing to risk in their fight for justice. Roseanna White fans in particular will enjoy a special treat - a glimpse of a few beloved characters from some of her other series. It’s not necessary to read these other series to enjoy An Honorable Deception, but I do recommend that those that haven’t read the first and second books in the Imposters series read those prior to diving into the third story. Although not totally necessary to understand and enjoy the plot, there are some spoilers for the previous books in the series in this one, so it’s best to read them in order.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

In this exhilarating final installment, Rosanne M. White delivers everything I adore in a page-turner: rich history, gripping mystery, unforgettable characters, impactful moral lessons, and a delightful touch of romance! This is the third book in the Imposter series, and I’ve been on the edge of my seat waiting for Yates’ story.
Lavinia, a dear friend of the Fairfax family, unravels the secrets of her beloved companions, diving into the heart of one of London’s most sought-after investigative firms. As she delves deeper into their world, she and Yates must confront their tangled past while uncovering the scandalous truths lurking in high society. But can they forge a future together, especially with the enchanting Lady Alethia Barrymore stepping into the spotlight?
Familiar faces from the previous two books return, adding layers of charm and depth to this unforgettable tale. White tackles tough realities with a masterful blend of grace and hope, weaving a poignant redemptive message throughout. Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you breathless!

An Honorable Deception by Roseanna M. White is the third book in The Imposters series and a definite must read if you love inspirational historical romance with some added mystery and suspense.
When the Imposters take on the investigation to see who is behind the attack on their client, Lady Alethia Barremore and finding her missing nanny, Yates, Marigold and Lavinia must do their best at keeping her safe along with keeping their connection to the elite private investigative firm hidden. However Lady Alethia is hiding something and they aren't sure if the secrets can help or harm her.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

I could not put this book down. Thankfully I had the time because I was sick so I was able to binge it with my free time from homework. I love the themes throughout the series, and how each one shows such unique character growth. I thought this was a really unique take on the love triangle. Normally I don’t like this trope, but I enjoyed how it was done! The three characters were really well developed and I enjoyed seeing how their characters developed. The suspense throughout the book really held my attention, and the plot was well thought through. The cameos made my heart so happy.
I received a complementary copy from the author, all opinions are my own.

Utterly satisfying conclusion, and my favorite novel of the series!
When the Imposters are hired by a young woman to find her missing ayah, it is quickly revealed that they have stumbled on something bigger and more sinister than they imagined.
I loved how this book follows multiple characters, running a gambit of emotions, delving into society's dark underside with gravity, with complex characters overcoming trauma, faith, romance, laced with witty banter, and Yate's wry musings. Lavinia is ready to heal, and I admired her bravery and selfless heart putting others before herself, as well as how she reached out in befriending Alethia, recognizing a hearting heart.
An excellent novel from beginning to end, I'm still processing everything, and I can't pick a favorite character because I loved them all! I loved the themes of overcoming the past and forgiving with God's help. And it was great to see another side of Xavier. Well worth the read and an all time favorite of mine from Roseanna M. White!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

In An Honorable Deception, Roseanna M. White features the leader of the Imposters himself, Lord Yates Fairfax and his team working to search for Lady Alethia Barremore's attacker and her missing friend. While secretly heading this elite private investigation firm which markets their services to the upper echelons of society, Lord Fairfax wrestles with his heart as his longtime friend and unrequited first love, Lady Lavinia Hemmings joins their investigation.
While I've read several other books by Roseanna M. White, this is my first in the Imposters Trilogy. I was able to follow along quite well, but it would probably be best to read at least book one, A Beautiful Disguise prior to starting An Honorable Deception unless you don't mind being spoilers since the main plot points from that story was referred to and mentioned multiple times in this book. One thing I love about White's writing is that she has more unique or unusual plots. Since this book is also set in the Edwardian era of the early 20th century, things like the eccentricities of the Fairfax estate --with Yates and his sister Marigold's interest in acrobatics and exercise in early but appropriate gym wear was plausible and believable to me as a reader. I also appreciated the slight love triangle/quadrangle element that was well written but not often (in my experience) seen in Christian Fiction. All of the characters involved were worthy matches and I enjoyed the mix of wit, humor, and heart in the characters' dialogue.
White also skillfully incorporates darker topics such as abuse in a manner that is not overly graphic but also with the gravity it deserves. Due to the heavier subject matter, the final element I especially appreciated was the strong spiritual thread woven throughout the story. The foundation of faith in several of the characters served to give them hope and healing and was wonderful to see. Teen and adult fans of the Murdoch Mysteries tv series or romance with a side of sleuthing will enjoy this latest offering from Roseanna M. White.
