"We all let fears, even borrowed fears, hold us back from time to time. But that doesn't mean we can't break free."

Roseanna M White always saves the best characters for the final book of her series. Don't get me wrong - I loved Marigold and Merritt and Graham and Gemma from previous books in this series. But I adored, adored Yates and Lavinia. And who'll argue with me - were Barclay and Evelina from Shadows Over England, Zivon and Lily from The Codebreakers, and Bram and Emily from The Secrets of the Isles not the best characters from those series? I had high hopes going into this third book of The Imposters and it delightfully exceeded my expectations.

There was more romance in this one - Yates and Lavinia have a bit of a past though it was a long time ago. Merritt's friend Xavier and another eligible young lady muddy up the waters a bit so I was never sure where the love story was going until more than halfway through the book. The amazing banter, puzzling intrigue, and faith lessons that the author is known for provide the backbone of the story while uniquely beautiful and memorable characters provide the frosting on the delicious cake of a tale. There are some sensitive topics involving social dichotomy and trafficking in Edwardian England; the author approaches these issues with care and sense of justice. Yates, Lavinia, and Alethia reminded me of the phoenix - rising from the ashes of destruction and others' transgression to shed light and beauty to the world around them. And there are plenty of cameo appearances that will thrill the author's long-time fans!

Wow. What a roller coaster! This book brings back our beloved Imposters in their most intense case yet. I felt so many powerful emotions as I read through this. And! AND! Two love triangles?! Roseanna, this was risky, but you executed it so perfectly. I really enjoyed it so much.

I will say there is definitely trigger warnings in this book. If you struggle with topics of sexual abuse I would reach out and ask someone who has read this for more details. But the message of hope and faith contrasts so perfectly and makes this a beautiful story you won’t want to put down.

Thank you to the author and publisher for an advance copy. All opinions are my own.

My favorite book in the Imposter series is officially An Honorable Deception! One of my favorite tropes is love triangles, which this novel displays beautifully with Mr.Yates right in the middle of two gorgeous women. From the very first book, I fell in love with Mr.Yates character! He is a handsome, strong, playful, kind, caring, acrobatic Earl who doesn’t let life get him down. Besides the handsome Mr.Yates, this novel also holds a gut wrenching mystery, which had me guessing the entire time. The ending was an absolute show stopper! Pun intended. I loved how the villains were revealed in such an original way. Ms. Roseanna M White has created a beautifully written masterpiece that I will be proud to recommend to everyone I know!

While this book tackled some very difficult topics like prostitution, trafficking and child abuse, it was combined with redemption, love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and grace. I especially enjoyed seeing a couple different White series' characters returning to the mix. It was so fun seeing Barclay and his crew again. I loved it.

The Imposters series is a special one. Who doesn't love playing private investigator and then throwing in lions, trapeze swinging and climbing walls...it's intriguing and different. It was interesting seeing the Imposters group expand and what new skills the newcomers would bring. Lavinia is a woman after my own heart following the strands through file after file to make sense of it all. It was a great read.

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I'd highly recommend it. All opinions are my own.

I have no adequate words to gush enough about this book and this series! I have LOVED every single book and series for this author, but I think this is my new favorite!
OMG! How can one author have so much imagination, attention to historical detail, slangs, and create such characters that you fall in love with them in a way that, when you finish the book, you feel the hollow of missing someone dear! It’s that captivating and engaging!
Ms. White has the ability to make you cry, laugh out loud, smirk, grin, intrigue you, swoon and make your heart race, all in one book!
The final conclusion to The Imposters Series is fantastic and completely unpredictable in many ways!
This is Yates story, and I have to admit, he has been my favorite character since book one in this series, so I have waited for his chance at his Happily Ever After for quite a bit now, I was literally thrilled when my book arrived!
Yates is the younger Fairfax brother and has always carried the weight -with the support of his sister Marigold- of being the family heir -the new earl- who inherited the family state in ruins. To earn their living and maintain the Fairfax Tower, Yates and Marigold created the Imposters, Ltd., a Secret Agency of private investigators that solves every kind of mysteries for the elite class. In their small team -nobody knows who they are- each one of them contributes with their unique talent: acrobats that can stealthily filter anywhere, a fashion icon, a columnist, an architect, a member of the English Army… All anonymous through disguises, but with a huge heart and selflessness to rescue the most needy and take down the evildoers. Yates receives a new client who wants to find her missing Ayah, her friend, but before he can get all the details, she is shot and gravely injured by two mysterious men. Yates takes charge of Lady Alethia and takes her to the Fairfax estate in Northumberland so she can recuperate, but soon they’ll discover a chain of mysteries tied to this attack and the disappearance of her Ayah. Things get complicated when Lavinia, his childhood friend and unrequited love who rejected him six years ago, stays in the manor during the London Season, and discovers their identity as Imposters and wants to help. Being in forced proximity to Lavinia brings back feelings he thought were buried. At the same time, he starts to feel attracted to Lady Alethia, who is very vulnerable and in need of protection. Who will Yates give his heart to? Can he keep both women safe? Will the Imposters solve a very dangerous case?
Sigh! Yates! He’s currently my new book boyfriend but I have to say that it’s going to be very difficult for him to be substituted! He’s everything a hero should be: passionate, heart of gold, compassionate, has the most hilarious sense of humor, strong yet vulnerable, loyal to the core, witty and very intelligent and talented (physically too). He completely grabbed my heart in this book and, I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the romantic part was endearing and swooning. The writing style is so good that I felt immersed in the story, even better than a movie, I could almost feel the characters breathe. The plot is unique, complex and unpredictable, totally engaging from page one until the end! I had to stay up until the wee hours because I needed to know how everything was going to be solved and with whom would Yates end up with. All the characters are so lovable: Lavinia and Alethia were both sweet relatable (although I had my favorite) and there were things to learn from each one of them. The secondary characters are like family, since you get to know most of them through the previous books. I love the bonds and loyalty between them: more than partners, the Imposters ARE family to each other. Even if you could read this book as a standalone, I definite recommend to read it in order, that way it’s richer and you get to know the characters better and how they grow along the series. My favorite funny parts were the antics of Penelope the monkey, she made me smile so much. And getting to see characters from previous series, like Shadows over England and The Codebreakers: loved that! Barclay and Lucy’s appearance made the book even better!
All in all, a wonderful and fantastic conclusion to The Imposters Series! Super highly recommended! I’m praying that the author will, in the future, write a spinoff Series about the Imposters. They are just too good to part with them in a definite way!

I just loved this book! Roseanna White always writes just the right combo of history, romance, and suspense for me! I’ve been waiting for Yates’ story this whole series, as I grew to love his character, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I didn’t even mind the love triangle, even though I knew who I wanted him to end up with! Such a nice bonus that the other lady found her happily ever after too! It was fun reading the author’s note at the end, knowing that these characters gave her such a hard time in that aspect. A huge highlight was having old friends from a previous series show up! Not going to spoil it, but if you’ve read White’s books you can probably guess. One of my favorite parts of the story was the beautifully honest conversations. Both between Yates and Marigold, Yates and Lavinia, and even Lavinia and Alethia. This series has been so enjoyable and I’m sorry to see it end but I’m excited to see what White has for us next!

I loved this story! I’ve been a longtime fan of White’s work, and this series has been my favorite in her lineup so far. Combining her excellent skill at making well-rounded, relatable characters, a gripping mystery, a faith element, and some sweet romance, this was a wonderful read.

If I had had the time, I would have read the whole thing in one day. As it was, I was able to get through about half of the book the first day I picked it up, but after that, it had to be a bit more piecemeal.

One thing I particularly appreciated about this story was the depth of the plot. Some of the topics addressed here are ones I haven’t seen in Christian fiction much (maybe I’ve just not picked up the right books; I don’t know), and I appreciated the way White handled things.

Overall, this was a lovely story. My only complaint is that it was so gripping I couldn’t put it down, so I reached the end long before I was ready to say goodbye to the characters. Recommended!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book, and this is my honest opinion of it.

I absolutely despise love triangles. Imagine my surprise then, to discover that I was reading about one and actually not hating it. Actually, I was loving it. I think the difference is that I could see Yates ending up with either lady, and would have been happy with it. Now don't get me wrong; it ended exactly as it should have. But I wouldn't have been mad either way, though I did get mildly stressed about things.

This is a book with HARD topics. This is one where I found myself fervently praying for the characters. Humans do ugly things sometimes, you know? Thankfully, there is always hope.

This one had a slower start, but it was a wonderful book. And I highly recommend reading the author's note. Maybe that's why that love triangle would have been fine either way.

Roseanna M. White delivers another remarkable story in The Imposters series with this latest release! Known for tackling challenging topics with grace, this installment leans a bit heavier, similar to book 2 but a different subject matter. It is beautifully balanced by endearing characters and sharp, engaging dialogue.
As the third book in The Imposters series, this story can stand alone; however, reading the series in order is highly recommended to fully grasp the complex relationships among the characters. The Imposters are a renowned group of elite investigators, sought after by high society for their discreet skills. When Alethia Barremore approaches them to find her missing ayah, Yates is hesitant to take the case. But when Alethia faces a violent attack soon after their meeting, the team has no choice but to get involved. Their investigation is further complicated by the involvement of Lavinia Hemming, a family friend, and a source of unexpected emotional turmoil for Yates. If you have been reading the story you will recognize Lavina from the previous books.
Fans of the series will be thrilled to finally dive into Yates’s story, a journey many have eagerly anticipated. The wait was worth it! This novel confronts the darker realities of human nature but offsets the heaviness with moments of humor and light brought by the characters themselves.
While the mystery of Alethia’s missing ayah drives the plot, the story delves into deeper, more sinister secrets that demand uncovering. Yates also finds himself torn between two women, adding layers to the narrative. The romantic elements, though secondary, are beautifully woven in and avoid feeling rushed. With two strong leading ladies, each compelling in her own way, readers may find themselves rooting for both at different points in the story. Personally I was rooting for Lavina since book 2 and was happy to see her get her happy ending. The resolution is both satisfying and heartwarming, offering happy endings for all involved.
One of the highlights of this book is the crossover of characters from White’s other works (not just from this series), which feels like a delightful reunion with old friends. It makes you want to go back and re-read their stories.
While some sections are emotionally challenging, they carry a meaningful message, allowing grace to shine through the darkness. With a well-crafted plot, rich faith themes, and a touch of romance, this book is a must-read for historical fiction enthusiasts.

An Honorable Deception is my favorite installment of this series. I should have known since it involved a love triangle and with our beloved Yates no less! I’ve been waiting for his story from the very beginning. I can’t remember the last time I read a love triangle with two heroines so that was really refreshing. I really enjoyed getting to know both women and White did a really good job of keeping things neutral. I truly had no idea which way things were going to go — lifelong family friend Lavinia or newcomer Alethia. I loved both of these characters for their different qualities and inner strength. Both faced some very hard things in their past, but their determination to rise above those things endeared me to them so much! I also loved that they became friends. I don’t want to spoil anything so all I will say is that as far as the romance goes, all’s well that ends well.

The mystery that brings everyone together and is threatening Alethia’s life ended up being a very dark one. I do love that White didn’t shy away from tackling a topic that was very real during this time period and that is sadly still alive and well today. I really enjoyed the theatrics at the end to bring down those involved as well as Lavinia’s roll within The Imposters. Overall, this was a very satisfying conclusion to this series!

Thanks to Bethany House for a gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.

Whew! I was nervous for a while there that I was going to be very upset at how things turned out but it’s all good :) I am liked at her note at the end. I’m glad her characters fought her!

This is one of the rougher books I’ve read of White’s. The subject matter is very dark; one of the most evil parts of humanity. Roseanna handles it with grace. The one character’s remarks on suffering were so profound!

While it’s heavy and dark, there are many light moments throughout. You will smile and laugh. I really love Yates and Marigold’s relationship. And Yates with Merritt/Xavier is also great. Like the club scene :)

This story has the cameo to end all cameos!!! We have a mention of the events from The Lost Heiress but some actual appearances of some beloved friends from another series. I just love how most of Roseanna’s books are set in the same time and place to make these kinds of overlaps possible. And maybe there will be some stories in the future combining the two???? She seems to be setting that up!

I’ve been a fan of Roseanna M. White’s books for many years. She is a brilliant wordsmith with a special talent for creating compelling, engaging characters and imaginative scenarios. Her writing flows seamlessly and is enriched by colorful imagery and rich historical detail.

An Honorable Deception is the third book in her The Imposters series, which has been such a delightful, captivating series. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Yates’ story, and it definitely was worth the wait. I love his vibrant, fun-loving personality, his sense of humor, and his care and concern for his family and friends. The humorous banter between the characters was such a treat and gave a needed respite from the somewhat dark subject matter, which White handled beautifully.

“You know, most women wouldn’t appreciate being compared to a monkey.”

When Lord Yates Fairfax rescues the Imposters’ newest client, Lady Alethia Barremore, from attempted murderers, he finds himself involved in much more than a missing person’s case. As he involves the other Imposters, their friend, Lady Lavinia Hemming, stumbles upon the truth of their group and wants to be involved in the investigations. Unfortunately, Yates had spent years getting over his youthful love for Lavinia.

“Six years later, he’d learned to look at her without that punch to his gut.”

What a dilemma! Two beautiful ladies to protect, a missing nanny, and a mystery to solve. This tale is a fantastic conclusion to the series. It was such fun to see characters from some of the author’s previous series show up in this one.

With lots of humor, suspense, romance, and inspiration, this book has something for everyone. I wholeheartedly recommend this author and series to those who enjoy clean and wholesome historical romance fiction.

What a stunning conclusion to this series! This book is fun and exciting from the very first page. I have been excited for Yates' book since Marigold's book came out and I'm so glad it did not disappoint. I was worried when the love triangle came into play because love triangle books tend to not be my favorite, but this one worked beautifully! I especially loved how this book talks about difficult subjects in a delicate and gorgeous way. That is hard to do when writing, but Roseanna does a wonderful job!

A fantastic finale to one of Roseanna’s best series. I loved that one of the characters from the first book got more to their story, and the mystery in this one is compelling. I also loved some familiar faces from some of Roseanna’s other books make an appearance in this book-that was so much fun! Rosanna is one of my must read authors in this series is a perfect indication as to why!
I received a copy of this book from the author and also pre-ordered my own Audible audiobook copy of the book as well. I was not required to post a positive review and all thoughts are my own.

This book was so good! It was the perfect addition to the Imposter's series. I loved the opportunity to get more of Yates and Lavinia's stories. This story dealt with some more serious themes and subjects but the author handled them so well. I really enjoyed it!

This book was the first I have read in the series. And immediately I felt like I was missing out. Sure, this book can stand alone, but from the very beginning to the very end you feel like you’re missing – and I know you are – a whole backstory. So, I would highly encourage you to seek out any books that received this one so that you do not feel this whole when reading it.

This historical romance takes place in the beginning of the 1900s. We are over in England, where our earl hero is part of a private investigator business. He and his sister, who was heroin in the last book, were raised with some connection to the circus and less have acrobatics hobbies and exotic animals at their estate. Our heroine has had A rough go of it, both healthwise, and suspense from the last book. However, she has a sweetheart. This book had some tones of a love triangle. We get three perspectives – one male, two women. In between the mystery of the missing woman and other injuries, we have a whole lot of faith, family, and friends. I don’t want to do this book did keep me turning the pages for the majority of it. 4.5 rounded up to 5.

Roseanna M. White’s The Imposters series comes to a captivating end in An Honorable Deception. Although the subject matter is at times extremely serious and heartbreaking, White balances sorrow, love, and faith well. I really enjoyed seeing characters from previous stories and series, and meeting several enthralling new ones. If you enjoy historical fiction with elements of romance and intrigue, White’s books are for you. 4/5 stars

Note: For this book, I think it is important to offer a content warning. Although these topics are handled with respect, An Honorable Deception tackles subjects such as child abuse, human trafficking, emotional/mental/physical abuse, and rape.

1910 England -

I think we ALL wanted to read Yate's story! This was a very satisfying read. I found it amusing that Roseanna White shared he was never meant to end up with this particular heroine. Consequently, we end up with a bonus romance in this story. We also find the return of some beloved characters from a previous series - but no spoilers here! I highly recommend the entire trilogy filled with mystery, intrigue, romance, faith, personal growth and more.

An Honorable Deception
by Roseanna M. White
Publisher: Bethany House Publishing
Series: Book 3 of The Imposter's
Rated: 4-5
Obtain: Borrow or buy
Back of the Book: “In the trying art of balancing investigations and love, a detective must determine his priorities when faced with dangerous circumstances that could threaten everything he holds dear.
As the leader of the Imposters, an elite private investigative firm, Lord Yates Fairfax has made an art of concealing his identity. But when his newest client, the beautiful Lady Alethia Barremore, is shot while leaving their meeting, he throws caution to the wind and rushes to her aid. Though Lady Alethia thought she was only looking for her missing former nanny, she has clearly stumbled upon something much more dangerous.
Lady Lavinia Hemming suspects her longtime friends hold more secrets than they're willing to admit, and when she stumbles upon the truth that they're the esteemed Imposters, she recruits herself into the firm. While she is happy for the distraction of an investigation, Lavinia's own family secrets continue to haunt her. And the one thing bringing laughter back into her life--her friendship with Yates--lands her squarely on the disagreeable side of her best friend: his sister.
Tormented by a past she doesn't dare voice aloud, Lady Alethia does what she can to help her handsome host, her new friends, and the investigators. But as clues lead them deeper into the dark side of society, Alethia, Yates, and Lavinia learn anew that the gentry isn't always noble . . . even as they fight to hold fast to their own honor.”

Impressions: I enjoyed this book very much. It is part of the Imposter series and is best read as part of the series. Characters from previous books are involved in this story as well as appearances made by Barclay and Mr. V from other books written by White. I appreciated the darkness exposed in this book and how well White wrote about these more challenging topics. The characters and plot worked well together in this well-written story.

Quotes: “’ She said that every bit of pain she bore drew her closer to Him (God). That the worse we hurt, the closer He holds us. The weaker we were, the more strength He’d give if we opened our hearts to let Him in.’”

“’ He cannot steal my joy, sweetling,’ she would say. ‘That is beyond his power. Because it is our good Father who gives it. Who loves us so much that He gave all for us. His suffering was so much more than ours can ever be. So when we suffer- and we all will, in this life- it can make us more like Him.’”

“’ Go outside for a while, sweet one. Soak up a bit of sunshine. Be reminded of how the God who created such an intricate world is at work here and now too.’ She lifted a challenging brow.’”

I received an ARC of this book via the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here.

The author dealt with a very difficult and sensitive subject in a world where women and children had little rights in a way true to the history.

Though this book was heavier due to the subject, Yates with his charming teasing personality brought a bit of light to the story.

I loved that Lavinia was one of the main female characters and how readers could see her inner strength and fighting spirit from her past struggles.

I really enjoyed the paths crossed between two of the author’s fiction world and the promise of a partnership for hopeful future stories.

Everyone got their happy ending in a way which will leave readers with a satisfied sigh and smile.
