Thank you to Kodansha and NetGalley for the opportunity to check this volume out!
Basic premise: tall male MC with tiny overactive dog and small female MC with big dog. Think opposites attract.
Art style is cute. Storyline is cute. There isn’t much depth here but it’s a sweet little slice of life story with some added potential romance - I think if you’re picking this up you’re not looking for anything crazy.
The only part that confused me was the obsession with the strength of both characters. At one point the female MC is afraid to pet a hamster because of her strength. I wasn’t really understanding why the mangaka made such a big deal out of it.
Overall I enjoyed it and I would probably check out volume 2.
This manga was absolutely delightful! I love that our owners, Chiharu and Kioytaka, were totally opposites of eachother. Their dogs are also opposites of their own personality and of each other. This was a great, quick read. I love the occasional shift in perspectives to the dogs and hope to see more of that in future volumes. This was a great volume to get to know our characters and their dogs with a little glimpse into their budding relationship. I am very excited to read more!
Super cute, adorable, heartwarming, and lovely. This manga hit me as someone who pets Pomeranians at home and once petted a Rottweiler. The drawings are so pretty and the love story is also cute. I can't wait to see them together as a couple!
Thank you, NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the eARC!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kodansha for the e-book copy!
Pupposites Attract follows dog owners Chiharu and Kiyotaka who have a chance meeting in a park. This meeting causes both to realize how mismatched they look to others as each has dogs that don't "suit" them. Despite this, they end up becoming fast friends with romance on the horizon. I was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I think the main character's relationships with their dogs are what intrigues me. Chiharu is very stern with her dog while Kiyotaka is not. I can see this being a new lighthearted read for me and will definitely look forward to the next volume.
This book was incredibly heartwarming and comforting. I found myself smiling all the way through it. The humour and budding romance was delightful.
Very lovely story about two people and their dogs. It’s about prejudices and how getting to know each other can make you realize people, and dogs, can often be quite different from what you thought initially. I loved the loveydovey vibe in this book and I really liked that the well-behaved dog was a breed that isn’t usually pushed forward as the good dog and that the little dog that usually is pushed forward as the perfect good dog, wasn’t really in this story. Wonderfully done and I liked the artwork as well.
I have two dogs, a bull terrier (which would be considered a medium breed, but its strength is too much) and a pinscher and I feel very identified with all this, hahaha.
Somehow the little ones always manage to generate what in Spanish is known as "the small dog syndrome" (I don't know if it has the same name in English) which means that they become the kings of the house and one is just another poor slave. While the big one is only calm.
To make a long story short, I found it adorable and entertaining. Both characters and their respective dogs are endearing and, of course, I love the idea of knowing more about them.
This was super cute! I love the concept and art style! The dynamics of the dogs' personalities and sizes are so cute and I love the difference between the owners' design and their dogs.
The romance is very cute so far! I look forward to seeing how it develops in future volumes!

OMG PLEASE GIVE ME MORE. This book was so cute and fluffy. As a dog lover and manga enjoyer I will be following this series. These characters meet by walking their dogs and life goes on. Absolutely loved the art style and the translations at the back are very helpful. 10/10 would recommend, quick and cute read.
I am a huge dog lover so this manga was right up my alley. I really enjoyed that the focus of the manga was on the relationship between the MCs and their dogs. The plot is more slow paced and the romance was more slow burn which I really loved. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to be released.
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I’d seen screenshots of pages of this manga on Twitter earlier this year so when I saw ARCs were available to read, I knew I had to request it seeing as it had already been on my tbr list for a while and was just waiting on its publication.
As a dog/animal lover, I knew I was going to really enjoy this manga, the dynamic between the dogs and their owners being so different and unexpected yet so sweet. As well as the dynamic between the dogs as well as the owners which of course blooms into a cute romance.
I would’ve blown through this first volume had my kindle not malfunctioned once I hit the 75% mark for some reason. The art style was wonderful and that’s usually the main thing that draws me to a manga/anime series more than the plot at times
Super cute dog lover manga. It was nice to read a dog manga considering how many very fun cat based ones there are.
The art was really fun and engaging. I enjoyed it all overall but i did find some of the chapters to be a smigde short. Definitely interested in collecting this digitally.
'Pupposites' attracted me to read this debut for my love of simple josei manga and pets. The title delivered on cuteness while remaining light. The pace is slow, but I enjoyed the delicate dance between the main characters. They are indeed very opposite in many ways, but the one similarity that connects their budding friendship is their love for their dogs. Any dog or animal lover will find this light read successful and be curious about future volumes. The art is clean, the detail to the dogs is great.
*Pupposites Attract* is a delightful manga that combines heartwarming romance with the irresistible charm of our four-legged friends. Perfect for dog lovers and anyone who enjoys a feel-good story, this manga explores the unexpected connections that can blossom between people and pets.
The story follows Chiharu, whose Rottweiler, Tsubu-chan, is as sweet as he is large, and Kiyotaka, whose Pomeranian, Monjuro, is small but bursting with personality. When these two pairs meet at the park, their differences are immediately apparent—Chiharu’s bold demeanor contrasts sharply with her timid Rottweiler, while Kiyotaka’s quiet nature is a stark contrast to Monjuro’s energetic antics. Despite the initial friction, their shared love for their pets leads to a series of chance encounters that begin to change their perspectives.
The charm of *Pupposites Attract* lies in its exploration of how unlikely friendships can form in the most unexpected places. As Chiharu and Kiyotaka’s paths continue to cross, the manga skillfully depicts the evolution of their relationship, both with each other and their beloved dogs. The interactions between the characters are sweet and genuine, offering a glimpse into how love and companionship can grow when we open ourselves to new experiences and people.
The art style complements the story beautifully, with expressive and endearing illustrations that bring both the humans and their pets to life. The contrast between the characters—both human and canine—adds an extra layer of depth to the narrative, emphasizing how opposites can indeed attract and form meaningful bonds.
Fans of *A Man and His Cat* and *Lovely Muco* will find much to love in *Pupposites Attract*. The manga is a comforting reminder of the joy that comes from both human and animal relationships and the ways in which these connections can enrich our lives. Whether you’re a pet owner or simply a fan of heartwarming romances, this manga offers a charming and uplifting experience that celebrates the magic of unexpected friendships.
Thank you Kodansha Comics for a copy of Pupposites Attract!
"A fluffy, feel-good romance manga for dog lovers! Chiharu enjoys every day with her sweetie of a Rottweiler, who probably weighs as much as she does. Meanwhile, Kiyotaka can't get enough of his fluffy Pomeranian, who barely comes up to his knees. When these two mismatched pairs chance upon each other at the park, they're like oil and water. But, after enough chance meetings, could this turn into an unlikely friendship, or something more?"
I picked this up after watching a horror movie and it gave me all the cute and fluffy feels!!
Pupposites Attract is a comforting read for pet lovers! It's about finding joy in the unexpected, and the importance of bonds with our pets and friends! For fans of A Man and His Cat and maybe even Hamtaro!
thank you to netgalley providing this book in exchange for an honest review!
this is a super sweet manga about two dog lovers slowly getting close to each other. the dogs are So loveable. I imagine I’ll get more invested as the series continues! I have no complaints—this book is doing exactly what it wants to do.
"Chiharu's bold personality in a petite frame strikes a contrast in every way to her scaredy-cat Rottweiler Tsubu-chan-and the same could be said for the sturdy but shy Kiyotaka and his outgoing Pomeranian, Monjuro. Yet, for these inseparable pairs, their long walks together are the highlights of the day. One encounter leads to another, and before long, these two unusual duos find their feelings changing..."
This story highlights the most beautiful thing about the companionship between a human and its pet. A relationship that starts out distant, but that time manages to give something solid and inspiring to witness. There is chaos, laughter, and an unexpected encounter that will lead to friendship. The purity of this story is delicate and fresh, causing the reader to become fond of every aspect of it. From the concept that appearances can be deceiving, to the little ones protecting, it is hopeful to learn more stories of this nature.
As for the art of the manga, incredible. It is simple and perfect, sweet and comfortable. A manga worth recommending.
Thanks NetGalley & Kodansha Comics for this ARC!
(4.5/5)
I recently got into manga because of shows I watch but this was different from those. This was so cute! The connection between people and their pets and how it comes to be. The art is also so cute!
This is a delightful story from start to finish.
Pupposites Attract is an episodic manga following two dog owners, each of them with a dog that is the complete opposite of what would match their appearance. One chance encounter on a walk leads to the protagonists crossing paths more and more often while taking their dogs out, one thing leads to another and something akin to a friendship starts to blossom, both between the owners and the dogs themselves.
The art is very cute and I especially love the different expressions the dogs pull. The writing is very lighthearted and easy to follow but still taking time to flesh out the characters bit by bit. In this first volume you already see some hints of romance flourishing but the characters are both still quite timid about their closeness with one another so I wonder how their relationship will progress.
On a more technical aspect, I really liked the choices for lettering especially the SFX.
Very excited for the next volume.
Pupposites attract is a romance manga with dogs!
Chiharu, while short she has strong willpower. In turn keeping Tsubu-chan, her rottweiler, in check. In contrast to Chiharu theres Kiyotaka. A shy sweet guy with quite the outgoing Pomeranian, Monjuro. Monjuro being quite the explorer finds Tsubu-chan and Chiharu. More encounters these friends have the more they realize feelings are coming in to play.
Really enjoyed this manga, quite excited to read vol. 2. I love the opposites attract trope, it works really well. Especially with the dogs almost being mismatched regarding personality, the dogs seem very real! Reminds me of my own pup. Loved that there were bonus scenes and info on both owners. Even the guide regarding japanese related terms.
Can't say I have any complaints. Overall a really wholesome cozy story so far.
