It was a good book, but not what i expected. Not sure why tbh, but i expected more of a story with tips on how to draw things from the story. Not just the teaching basically. So 2 stars because it wasn't what i expected. If it didn't expect anything it would probably be higher

This is my first non novel book review, so exciting. I decided to tackle this one differently and got my family together for a drawing session. Ages range from 11 to 42 😊
We all had so much fun drawing these characters, great step by step pictorials. We had some great results!

If you’re a fan of the Hooky series and interested in learning how to draw the characters, then you’re going to be really excited to pick this book up! This isn’t a general how to draw book, so you might be disappointed if you pick this up and aren’t a fan of the series. It includes a lot of information about the characters, how they were developed, their color palettes, and general character information. However, it does include tips and general advice from the author for people who are interested in drawing a web series.

As a fan of the series, I really enjoyed reading this. I loved learning about the creation of the characters for this series as well as comments the author received while they were studying at a comics and visual art school. It was great to hear about how they also felt very passionate about drawing comics as well as how difficult they knew this path would be. All on all, this is an excellent read for fans of the series, especially for people who draw.

I originally got this for my daughter, she is a huge fan of the Hooky series, and is an avid artist. She loved the portion that it goes over the characters, so if you are not familiar with the series it is still enjoyable to learn the characteristics of them, their quirks, and personalities. I appreciate the variations of the characters and how many they were. The poses of them breaking them down by part by part making it less overwhelming, the different poses which help it remain a very human-like art style that is not stiff. I myself am not an artist not even close, but these I was able to do many of them in 1-2 takes without it being anxiety ridden and be able to do something my daughter enjoy along side her was nice. We will be using this throughout her 8th grade homeschool year.

First of all, thankyou to netgalley for giving me a copy of 'learn to draw hooky' early in exchange for a review. As a lover of the webtoon I was interested to look at the drawing of this book, and I loved it, it was so cute and I enjoyed my time looking through it.

Very fun, cute and great for any Hooky fans. I can not wait to buy this book for my niece who loves the graphic novels. She would love to learn how to draw the characters as well. I think the book is nicely set out. I like how they separated the characters body and head tuition, they different poses are a great idea too, it broadens the skill set. I did think is was a positive note at the end on how to publish on webtoons as well. I'm sure plenty of fans would love to do the same and adding that at the end , make sit possible that they could. Overall a nice gift for any Manga, webtoon and Hooky fan.

My daughter loves this graphic novel series. She negged me to download the preview on NetGalley while I was looking for some new books. She spent the day drawing and creating her own versions of the Hooky characters. It was a hit.

I really like the style. The book offers a good look at the technology and the characteristics of the characters, especially at the beginning. Unfortunately, I find the full-body "instructions" a bit too short. I would also have liked more detailed step-by-step instructions. Overall, however, it is a helpful and beautiful book for painting Hooky's favorite characters.

I wanted to review this book for my daughter, who loves the Hooky series. She loved it! She liked the review of the characters at the beginning and of the book. The instructions gave lots of details to complete the characters. Now she knows how to draw her favorite Hooky characters! She can't wait for the next installment!

On her first attempt you could clearly see who they were supposed to be. The book is concise and easy to use, she used it by herself successfully with no adult guidance. I recently discovered my love for graphic novels and manga, which led me to the Hooky Webtoon. I love to draw and have been increasingly interested in creating my own illustrations. Naturally, when I saw this guide I was intrigued!

First impressions:
• I love the digital layout. It read really nicely on my iPad and phone.

• Providing the color values for digital art was a lovely touch.

• ‘Wow, this artwork is gorgeous.’

• Many genuinely helpful tidbits straight from the creator!

This was a comprehensive lesson book, without falling into the “overwhelming” danger zone. There are plenty of behind-the-scenes of what goes into the Hooky production, however I believe that any person interested in this art style would enjoy reading this book, regardless of if they are familiar with the Hooky Webtoon! I learned a lot from this book; I enjoyed the art and learning more about the Hooky storyline just as much as learning technical tips from the artist. Thank you!

My teen daughter and I ADORE this book! My daughter is a wonderful artist and a long time fan of Hooky. As soon as she saw this book, she set to following the instructions and produced some gorgeous Hooky-themed pieces of art. I also gave it a try and feel proud of my Hooky art! I love how fun and accessible this instructional book is for everyone. We will definitely be purchasing a hard copy when it’s available!

Fun how to draw book for the fans of Hooky who want more character information. It's really quite wordy for a how to draw book, in my opinion. Being that is specifically for the Hooky series this makes a little more sense. However, if you're just looking for a how to draw manga or anime it's probably not the best one for that.

In summary, great for those who are fans of Hooky.

Hooky is a wonderful webcomic, I really like the story. This gives you information on each of the characters, giving you a little bit of their backgrounds. This art book gives you step by step to draw both their kid and adult characters, and even how to grow up your characters. Excellent book to learn some drawing tips.

Learn to Draw Hooky is a tutorial technique guide for drawing the characters from the very popular webcomic in their familiar style. Due out 10th Sept 2024 from Quarto on their Walter Foster imprint, it's 96 pages and is available in paperback format.

The layout has a fresh and unusual (for Walter Foster) format. It's set up very much like a webcomic, with breakaway panels and a comics layout and flow. A beginning chapter introducing the characters in colored panels is followed by a surprisingly thorough step-by-step tutorial section. There's also a QR code which links to online content/the latest episode of the webtoon.

The author/publisher have included colored full page panels with the hexadecimal values for the shades used in the pictures to help with color selection. The tutorials are moderately advanced, but do-able for a determined beginner, and will give artists enough accomplishment to keep going, which is the most important part.

This is a beginner to advanced booklet but full of good technique for anime style art/cartooning and will provide some useful takeaways for the majority of readers/artists who are interested in the style. The pages (and there are many) dealing with positioning, emotional expressions, and facial features are especially detailed and useful (not just for drawing these particular characters).

Five stars. This would be an excellent choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, activity/makers' groups libraries, home studio, or gift giving, maybe with a sketch pad and markers/pens.
