Mir hat das Buch gefallen auch wenn ich einige Scenen zu langatmig fand. Danke für das Reziexemplar!
I really enjoyed this one! I love this style of fantasy novel and was so excited to read it. I felt it started out just as strong as it ended which is impressive
The Unseen King
By Allison Anderson
Rating 3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐
This is the third book of the cartographer series, I read the first book and I didn't really enjoy it but this book was really good. The book follows Prince Aiden after he's taken to faerie and declared their High King and he now has to decide if he wants to escape back to his old life in Olympia or embrace his new role in faerie and protect it's citizens from The cartographer and the rebels a.k.a Durant.
I really enjoyed this book, the world building and character descriptions were done so well and the new characters added a vibrancy and humor element that I feel the other books didn't have. I adored Thaen and Dair and Aidens entire maternal family and the pure love they had for him. The setting of the faerie lands and it's inhabitants also gave the book more of a fantasy feeling that was absent in the other two books. The language , culture and political system of this world was also fleshed out nicely and the reader got to go on the journey with Aiden as he learnt about this new world and the wars that shaped the current history.
The only thing that I feel personally takes away from the story and kept me from giving a 4/5 rating was the romance...
The main female character made the other books a difficult read because of her choices and she really didn't improve in this book. I loved the book up until the final part when Penny and Aiden were reunited and then the final chapters became frustrating to read. Penny has this character trait where she wants to be this amazing, rare knowledgeable FMC but to me she reads as the opposite. The final decision she made when she decided to eat the fruit to permanently stay in faerie even though the people hate mages proves this. She didn't earn the people's respect and prove herself like the way Aiden was trying too in the second half of the book, she forced herself on them. Also on that note one of the things that I noticed in the past 3 books is that the villain is always winning, she's always one step ahead of the main characters and they just spend the books being clueless even when she explains the plan to them. As a reader this is was so hard for me to wrap my head around , she literally told them what she planned but these supposedly powerful beings with rare and once in a generation powers can't stop her even once ?!? and then a side character has to die unnecessarily to cement her claim as this foreboding villain. I know she's the villain , the fact that she accomplishes so much is a testament to the incompetence of the main characters.
But ultimately the majority of this book was a really good and enjoyable read. Fiadh, Shirinia , Thaen and Dair were the best parts and their family dynamics made me laugh , they were also really strong characters that were catalysts for Aidens character development and played a huge role in him accepting his role as high king. It's just the end of this book and Penny that were negative contributors to an otherwise interesting YA fantasy story.
***Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers of this book for gifting me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.***
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
This book just like the previous two was a great read.
It’s a little more action packed as we’re following Penny’s journey to find Aiden.
We also learn so much more about Aiden in this book.
Excited to see what happens next in this series.
If you liked the first two book you definitely need to read this one!
I loved that Penny didn't hesitate at jumping into Faerie after her fiancee, soul mate, whole world. They had just gotten through the most beautiful moment in their relationship. She was finally living the dream. The whole decision making process was the blink of an eye, and she was loaded with supplies and Spot before the court could register a rescue needed to occur and their archrival was, in fact, not dead.
What I didn't love was the Welsh characteristics of the names in Faerie. My mental pronunciation was probably a complete butchering, but I just read on in stoic determination and gave everyone nicknames. Also, Penny. I know I started with how much I loved her decisiveness, but that did not last passed her arrival. Once she had crossed the Mist, Penny's rashness just became grating. Her impetus made everyone's life much more difficult, and I often wanted to punch her to slow down. The pain and chaos she unnecessarily created. Awk!
Aiden's time in Faerie was a definite growth process. His character showed a deep look into what it means to make a life decision, which oaths does he honor over the other. Powerful. Penny's dealings with the Cartographer were some of the best scenes in the entire novel, though. Even while I was ranting at her behavior, the writing absolutely captures the degradation of the human mental state with such vividness.
We get to see more of the creatures from Celtic and Greek myths blending together. Angelica is more than a voice in a letter. Aiden's family is made up of some of the best characters. The Goddess becomes more prominent as a character and not an exclamation.
The largest reason for 4 stars comes from the in depth look into how magic works and its connection to the spiritual. The build up has me chomping at the bit for the next installment.
Guys. GUYS. Stop what you are doing right now and listen to me. Are you listening? Okay good.
Go to Amazon and buy this whole series.
The whole dang series.
To say that I devoured this book would the understatement of 2024. I knew that it was the third in its series, and that I had not read the first two. But I wanted to give it a shot, regardless. While it did take me a sec to feel caught up, the writing was exceptional and made the story addicting from the start. I tend to shy away from "retellings," as they are usually lackluster. However, this Hades/Persephone retelling is BRILLIANT, Y'all. And clean! Zero smut. Just an incredible book with incredible characters and an incredible storyline. I cannot wait to read the first two books in the series, so that I can get more of a feel for the backstory. So, so good!!
I received the ARC for this. Right away I realized this was not a first book. Given that I have not read the other books it's a little harder to move forward reading this but I did love the writing right away. The writer is very descriptive and I felt pulled in right away. I wanted to know what was going on, who were these characters, and what had happened to them. So with that, I will probably go download the other books and update this review later. I gave it a high rating because if a writer can do that in a few pages then they deserve it.
This series is all I can think about recently. After getting an ARC of book 2, I went to kindle unlimited to read Book 1 and now I am HOOKED. Allison Anderson has become an auto-read author for me and I am so glad I found her here on NetGalley!
Thank you to NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Rich characters and a well-thought-out world make this a novel to get lost in and leave with the wish that book four was already ready to snatch up and dive into too.
I did not read the first two books in the series, and yet, it wasn't too hard to get lost in this story. While there is obvious backstory missing, it's not too hard to fill in the pieces as the story follows Aiden and Penny in the realm of the fae as they each struggle with their own journey. Both characters are easy to connect with and root for, and the world is a treat to experience. I'm going to try to review this without giving any spoilers for anyone wanting to start this series from the beginning.
The book is told from two points of view (I think completely...hmmm...). Anyway, Aiden is separate from Penny, and while they think of each other a lot, each one has their hands full with their very own path. Usually, I find one character more interesting than the other, and end up flipping through one of the sides faster when their chapter comes up. This time, both were equally grabbing. Aiden gets a bit more story time as he's facing the biggest life-flip and needs to get his entire foundation of life clear. Penny, on the other hand, is battling her way through, discovering new friends, defeating evil creatures, and coming up against harsh issues on the action end. It creates a nice balance between character depth and fast-paced scenes to make the entire story fly by and hard to put down.
My biggest disappointment was the end. It's a cliff-hanger with a huge to-be-continued. While I'm not a huge fan of that (especially when it hits book three), I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I am curious to see what will happen next.
“The Unseen King,” by Allison Anderson
Prince Aiden has been kidnapped from the Fae through a portal. Penny is determined to find him at all costs even if that means go through a portal to a world full of danger. Many trials and complications lay in wait for Penny is the Faerie realm but her love for Aiden can get her through anything. Aiden awakes in the world of Faerie and find out that his destiny is to become the High King of the folk and he is torn between his human family and his Fae one and his love for Penny.
I loved this book so much. I’ve loved this series so much, and this book did not disappoint. I loved how the book was focused on Penny’s adventures in trying to get back to him and her bravery in doing the hard stuff and his journey is finding what means most to him and that he is not as alone as he was raised and there are others just like him and his internal conflicted with what the right thing to do is, either following your heart or the good of the people. Definitely a book I will be rereading many times, I can’t get enough of this series. 5 out of 5 stars.

Thank you for the ARC, Netgalley.
Allison Anderson has done it again!
The Unseen King surpassed ALL my thoughts and expectations for this amazing and clean YA Romantasy!!
Action, danger, peril, fighting, court intrigue, the angst of a lost love and desperate attempts at reunification, all while trying to stop the rebellion and end the Cartographer's War.
This book has got it all!
A gripping tale as epic as any I've read, this clean YA Romantasy will have readers of all readers devouring the pages and begging for more!
This book is one of my top three books of the year, hands down.
Picking up where we left off from the shadow lord forced me to remember the pain that penny felt seeing Aiden snatched from in front of her. Her perseverance and determination to get to him, no matter what she comes across, shows just pure her love is.
I was also really excited to get some more world building. We had already learned a bit about fairie through Angelica’s letters, but having penny there made it real. I enjoyed how it was done, as it didn’t take away from what was going on, but added to the history .
I’m also a sucker for a dual pov book, and it was refreshing. Obvious Aiden was thinking about penny, but we also saw a new side to him. Even if it took a while, he was able to be vulnerable with his new family. I consider that some great character development!!
Honestly the only thing I wish we had seen more of was the rebellion(controversial I know). Getting a sneak peak of the inside of the camp showed just how powerful adira was, and while she is the villain, she’s good at what she does. It makes me wonder what other artifacts are out there, and what that could do in the next book.
Overall, this book was full of heart break, longing, loss, and so so much love. It has easily come to be my favorite book of the series. And I don’t know what Allison has done, but I swear there’s crack in these books. I easily blew through it in one day, I just had to know what was going to happen.
I received this ARC from the author and am very grateful for the opportunity. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved the first book in this series and I was so happy to be able to read this book! The romance has been developing very nicely and the plot is so interesting! I would highly recommend!

When I requested this book I didn’t realize it was the 3rd book in the series so I had to quickly read the first two first.
I throughly enjoyed how the world building continued in book 3. I also enjoyed the dual POV.
Penny is a very loveable fun character and she over comes everything she is faced with.
Book 3 would have to be my fave of the series! I enjoyed the heart break, loss and longing and all the love throughout the pages. Book felt very YA but I enjoyed it.
