This was so good. I love this series and so do my students. Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this title. I did purchase this title for my shelves.
Maybe I just have this super high expectations?? Sadly , I ended up disappointed. I could not get into the story. Sorry.
Ridley .. argh! So annoyingly annoying. And all that whining?? Argh! I couldn’t take this anymore!
Who doesn't love Ridley? She was always the highlight of the BC books so naturally, I was super excited to have gotten to read and review this one. It was such a great addition to the Beautiful Creatures world, and an overall amazing series on its own. One I still highly recommend to this day!
I wasn't a big fan of the main series, but I was curious about this one, because I was intrigued by the characters of this spin-off series, and so here I am.
Even if it's not the best series ever, and even if it could have been more, we have a lot of interesting characters. Maybe not Ridley and Link, who are interesting but quite clichè and not so original, but Lennox Gates is a great character, with a ton of potentialities (and maybe I would go on with the next chapter thanks to him) and Necro was intriguing. I hope to see more of them, and all thing considered the story wasn't bad. Maybe it's not so intriguing and it doesn't happen much, if not in the end, but it was ok and I am curious to see what would come out of that!
There are moments when life pulls you from those that you love and hold dear. How you move on defines the next course in your life. Ridley Duchannes and Link Lincoln are heading out to conquer the world. Leaving South Carolina in the rear view mirror. What should have been a trip of discovery, quickly turns into a trip about settling debts.
Playing cards can bring you a windfall or take you to your knees with the debt. After Ridley played her persuasions and still came out on the losing end to Lennox Gates, she finds herself with two markers she must fulfill. One of the requests was for a drummer for the house band in Lennox Gates’ club. A task that should be easy enough with Link at Ridley’s disposal. The only problem is that Ridley doesn’t let Link know he is fulfilling her debt. Link is headed to NYC with stars in his eyes, and a dream of making it as a drummer!
What Ridley could not have predicted in this equation was the unpredictability of Lennox Gates. As a dark caster, Lennox sees what the future will hold for those around him. The world that Gates surrounds himself within only fuels the panic that Ridley holds. Ridley quickly realizes that her powers of persuasion are useless in the world that Gates has created.
This trip to the Big Apple will hold more questions than answers for Ridley and Link. What should be a time for exploration is tainted by the debt Ridley owes to Gates. What is the driving force behind Gates desire to excerpt such a hold on Ridley? Who is holding the strings in this game of puppet master? How will this betrayal affect Ridley and Link’s relationship? Only time will tell where the Light and Dark will land in this struggle for power.
As a huge fan of Beautiful Creatures, I couldn’t wait to jump into Ridley’s spinoff series!! What I found was a tad bit of disappointment. Ridley has always been portrayed as someone with such confidence and power, that you can’t help but be drawn to her character. Ridley has always been a force of darkness with tidbits of light mixed within her heart. That strength and depth of character seemed to be lacking in this book.
Link and Ridley have always been an unusual couple. However – their romance ‘just works’. Everything about their powers should keep the other at bay. Yet – their attraction and loyalty is what I love most about them!! Dangerous Creatures was just a bit of a letdown. I miss the depth, desire, and loyalty that these two characters have for one another. The writing was interesting, but not enough that I felt completely vested in this world that Ridley is creating without Lena and Ethan!! So – I am middle of the road on this one!! With a cliff hanger ending….readers will have to carry on to discover where this trip to NYC lands Ridley and Link.
I apologize for the much delayed review. I am finally catching up with old NetGalley books that I needed to review. While I had to put this book down (I just couldn't get into the story as I didn't read Beautiful Creatures.), I do have students who will love this story and I will book talk it in classes this spring.
I was unable to finish the book, but thank you for the opportunity.
Great series, well written and makes you want a little more each time!
