On a sunny spring day the two Dachshunds, Trooper and Bonita, are sharing a heartwarming moment together in their yard while Trooper tells Bonita the story about his journey from lost to his forever home and to them becoming a family 🐶
Troopers Story is a lovely children's book about a curious and brave Dachshund who goes through a very traumatic time while being lost but ends up (spoiler alert) finding his forever home after being rescued. The story touches upon fear, loneliness, trust, animal rescue, new beginnings and love. Lots of love. This is definitely a feel-good read 🤍
The illustrations are very pretty and emotional and works perfectly with the story. You've done a wonderful job with these drawings, Naomi 🌸
This story warms your heart and it's perfect for teaching children about rescue animals and the reasons why we adopt. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dogs, rescue stories and cute illustrations - no matter your age.
Trooper's Story was such a beautiful and heart warming read of animals leaving a dark place and finding a forever home full of love.
This is a wonderful story about a little pup who accidentally got out of his owner's yard. It has great pictures and gives readers an idea about how a dog can get loose and what happens after it is found. As a foster myself, I appreciated the steps in the story about finding the pup, giving it attention, giving it shots, and so forth. What I was missing in the story was an attempt to find the original owner by looking for a chip.
The artwork was beautiful and I definitely will use it as a lesson plan for my younger kids in speech. We can add to the story by offering suggestions for looking for a lost animal with flyers and checking the local shelters. I felt sad for the woman knowing she gave the puppy a very good like and she must have been devasted when he got lost
What a cute story with great illustrations. Who doesn't love a book about a cute lost dachshund!
He had a great home but got lost when he went exploring with the gate open. He got rescued and spent some time finding a home. This is a great book for children, and adults should like it too. The pictures are cute and help tell the story. I loved the way that they used fun creative ways to type the words. This will be on my list of books to donate and give as gifts.
As an owner of two adorable dachshunds these book was a hit. I cried so much for poor Trooper when life was hard for him. The illustrations are cute and I highly recommend this book for dog lovers in all ages.
You had me at the dachshund and compounded that with a rescue story!
Trooper the dachshund tell his story of first home, getting lost chipand living in the wild for weeks before being found and taken to the Humane Society. There he was washed and fed and made to feel cared for and safe. before he went to the Dachshund Rescue. Then he was fostered and met his forever dad and taken to his forever home to live with his dad and big sister.
The simple illustrations by Naomi Golden are comfortably colored, and fun.
Well suited for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school, or your public library!

Trooper's Story is a wonderful children’s book that beautifully narrates the journey of a beloved pet from being lost to finding a loving home. Through Trooper's adventure with his big sister Bonita, readers are introduced to themes of rescue, healing, and the joy of adoption. I found the story touching and engaging, especially for its gentle portrayal of the importance of animal rescue and the special bond between pets and their families. It’s a lovely read for both kids and adults who cherish heartwarming tales of animal companionship.

What an adorable picture book! The story is very cute and I love that it features rescue dogs. All animal lovers will enjoy this book.
A very touching story about the dachshund trooper who tells his sister how he found his forever home and family.
Beautifully written and a touching story showing how important it is to care for and rescue dogs (and other animals!).
My only criticism is that the situation with trooper's former owner wasn't resolved within the book. I kept hoping she would find him at some point but leave him with his new family as she grew older or something like that.

Inspirational story of helping to the lost dog 🐕 to find a forever home with family and love.
Sometimes curiosity can be very dangerous like here, when little dog was lost to the big fields without water and anything to eat.
To survive in that situation , speak for the strength of the dog. When he was found by Trent the pain and worries were away. Anna helped a lot and veterinary care in the shelter.
If you can help, just take care of one dog from shelter center and adopting in yours home

Trooper’s Story
Benjamin Mitton
Trooper was a dachshund with a curious nature. He lived with Emily and loved her dearly and she loved him. He loved it when they cuddled. He never wanted anything. She kept him well fed and he always had fresh water. One day someone left the gate open. He decided to just step out and see what was on the other side. Then he took another step. He played in the field, chased butterflies and far this way and that. When his tummy began to rumble, he decided it was time to head home, only he didn’t know which way was his home. The poor little guy was lost. For weeks he looked for his home. He ate grass, mushrooms and leaves, he drank from puddles. He missed his food, clean water, warm bed and most of all he missed snuggling with Emily. One day a kind man found him and took him to an animal shelter. They cleaned him up, gave him food and fresh water. He slept a lot the first week. He was taken to a foster home for a few weeks then to a Dachshund rescue place. That’s where he met Ben who soon became his new daddy.
Trooper was curious about what was n the field; he strayed too far and couldn’t find his way home. We are often the same. Things look prettier, more pleasant, more exciting so we begin exploring and forget how to return home.
Trooper was helped by many people, Jamie and Ben were only two of them. The ASCPA and the different rescue organizations are important to the well-being of our pets. In the story I kept hoping Trooper and Emily would be reunited. This is a must read with your children. Using this book as an ice breaker can lead to discussions about not straying too far from the safety of your home.
