Honestly I could not get into this book. I really did try multiple times and I love Julianne Hough. Something about this audiobook was not doing it for me. Unfortunately it was a DNF.
With out sounding like Shane, the main character's skeptical husband, this book was a little too much for me. I feel like it started off strong, and could have gone really well, since the premise sounded intriguing, but somewhere in the middle, it really dropped off.
I was so excited for this one! I grew up watching Julianne on Dancing With The Stars, and eve watched all her movies when she tried acting. I still follow along with her and her brother today, so I just knew that this book would be a must read for me!
Sadly, I feel let down by this one. The premise seemed interesting and I believe she has said it is a fictionalized version of her own story. It started off great when the main character has her first interaction with someone, and begins to feel like she is drowning., It turns out that the man she locked eyes with's family drowned in a boating accident. I was hooked instantly, but it all went downhill from there. I thought that this book was going to explore more of the main characters "gift" and the empathy towards other people's scenarios, but instead it was just tone deaf. The main character begins a journey through self discovery but it just feels like the book needed more external interaction with others. There was some parts that talked about the MCs relationship with her husband, but there was no depth there and it made it hard for me to even care what happened in that situation.
I do want to take a moment though to talk about the cover! First, the art is stunning and added to my want to read this book. Then I also discovered that the Ghost writer is also listed on the cover, which is unusual for a ghost writer situation, but I absolutely loved this!
Overall, not a great book and I probably will not be recommending this.
I was so excited for this book! It sounded so good. The cover is absolutely beautiful!
Everything We Never Knew started out so good. But by 25% I was so bored. I kept reading just because I was so excited for the book. I had such high hopes but really I should have never finished it. I still did not like it by the end.
To be honest, I’m not 100% sure why I didn’t like it. I think I just had such high hopes because the premise of the book sounded like it was going to be so good.
Thanks to NetGalley and RB Media for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this story about love, loss, and finding oneself. Good narration and interesting characters with good dynamics. Good story for those trying to find their way and who enjoy tapping into their inner strength. Story contains a character who sees visions of the future.
Oh boy, this one was a struggle. And I was so optimistic - I love the concept of it.
One evening at an awards ceremony for her corporate job, Lexi experiences a new, life-altering experience: she can sense the energy of a man who wanders off the streets. This throws Lexi into a journey of self-discovery and exploration of auric fields.
I believe in energy and certainly that there are people who can sense and see those energies. However, this book felt…immature. Within days of realizing she has this ability, Lexi has quit her job, abandoned her husband and best friends, and starts “healing” everyone she meets.
It felt silly. And cliche.
Lexi Cole has everything-a great husband, great job, nice house. She has come out of a difficult childhood and achieved the life she always wanted. But she had a miscarriage six months ago that only she and her husband know about, and all of a sudden strange things start to happen. She quits her job, and delves into learning how to “heal”. Her husband and friends think she has gone crazy, and sometimes so does she. The story is a little woo woo some of the time, but it does show the power and value of alternate medicine and healing. I did this on audio, it was narrated by the author. Thanks @netgalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of Everything We Never Knew by Julianne Hough and Ellen Goodlett. #everythingweneverknew #juliannehough #ellengoodlett #netgalley #advancedreadercopy #bookstagram #takeapagefrommybook #lovetoread
A solid read. I love that the author narrated the audiobook. Having experience in media I'm sure helps and really elevates this audio to the next level.
Audio was my preferred method of taking in this deep atmospheric drama. I don't know that I'd call this a thriller or mystery. The premise is interesting, can Lexi see in to the future? Can she predict someone's impending death? Is she going crazy? I do love that trope in a book.
Definitely worth a listen.
This a supernatural fiction with heavy topics sprinkled in including miscarriage, gender discrimination in the work place and traumatic death. There is also strong female friendship. The FMC is able to read energy and auras as well as feel other people’s emotions and glimpse into their private lives. It’s definitely well written and the concept is unique. The overall theme of the book is healing.
The author narrates the book herself and her voice is very monotone and lacks the emotional depth needed at certain times. There is a great deal character/emotional growth throughout the story.
The premise is intriguing however many times the story did not hold my attention. Unfortunately the novel did not meet its full potential.

Everything We Never Knew follows Lexi Cole, a successful real estate agent who unexpectedly discovers her ability to feel other people’s emotions and memories. As strange events begin to unravel her carefully built life, Lexi must confront her past and embrace her newfound abilities to protect the people she loves. The novel starts off strong with an intriguing premise and vivid imagery, but the narrative quickly shifts into a more introspective journey, leaning heavily into themes of self-healing and spirituality. I felt there was a lack of depth in character development and maybe this is what made the pacing a bit uneven. Julianne Hough's narration is fantastic! Very warm and unique.
When I saw that Julianne Hough narrated Everything We Never Knew I instantly wanted to read it! It wasn't until I started listening to the audiobook that I realized Hough (along with Ellen Goodlett) wrote it as well!
This book stayed grounded while being full of big ideas as main character Lexi Cole goes through a spiritual metamorphosis. It's a journey of self-acceptance and self-love, while proving that we change as life's circumstances continuously change around us. There's a bit of magic sprinkled throughout, which added a sense of charm! I loved that the book was set in small town Utah, while never coming across as stereotypical, making this plot incredibly refreshing to read!
This is a true celebration of womanhood, showcasing how that looks differently for each of us. There was always a female character to relate to in full, or in part. The ending was hopeful and made sense, while neither coming full circle nor being extremely well defined, increasing this sense of an ever-evolving life!
Hough did a fantastic job narrating her own work! After watching an interview with her, I learned that she pulled from personal experience, which came across in the narration; there was a true connection between Hough and her main character! Additionally, I loved the magical music at the beginning of each chapter.
This book is the needed reminder to be our truest self!
Thank you NetGalley, RBmedia and Recorded Books for the complimentary audio copy to read and review.
I absolutely loved that the audiobook was narrated by the author Julianne Hough! She has the perfect audiobook voice. I was drawn in deep immediately with this book! I found it very relatable and it was an interesting take on belief systems and how they work within our lives with our partners, families and friends.
Thank you Net Galley for the audiobook preview of this book!
I’ve given this a 2-3 star rating. I think the content of the book in the end just didn’t appeal to me but in terms of being able to listen to the audio it’s narrated by Julianne herself and I’m a big fan of her generally so I enjoyed that aspect of it. I did find some of the vocab unusual and repetitive. Aside from the issues I had personally with the content I’m sure others would enjoy this.
When I received an email about a local event featuring the author of this book, THE Julianne Hough, from Sourcebooks - I was so excited! Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the event, but due to the always gracious @sourcebooks I was sent a physical copy of the book ☺️
The MC, Lexi, is completely caught off guard when she suddenly is able to feel other people’s emotions, and even times has glimpses into their most personal memories. Exploring the realm of her own spirituality, after being known as an expert in denial, she is forced to confront the changes that are going on within and around her.
I went into this book completely blind, other than knowing of the author from her other professional endeavors, so when I tell you I didn’t know what to expect with this book, I mean it! I was quickly hooked with the fast paced start to the book and the way in which it had me guessing as to what exactly was going on with Lexi. As the book continued on, it explored concepts in spirituality - specifically related to energy, auras and healing powers. For a bit I struggled with this and couldn’t necessarily figure out why - until today it hit me, it’s because these types of spirituality concepts are things that are very foreign to me. I know of them in the sense that I know what the word means, but other than that, I’m pretty green to the concepts that this book portrayed. I’m not one to shy away from reading something that I may not fully understand or concepts I don’t fully grasp, as that’s all part of learning & growing, and I’m glad I didn’t let my confusion be the exception to this rule for me!
Beyond the spirituality concepts, this book has a great message of trusting your gut, facing challenges head on, confronting your past and feeling your emotions. I did enjoy this book and was even more intrigued when I found out that this was very personal for the author. Specifically noting that as Julianne Hough’s dive into the world of writing this book it is an overall poignant & personal journey for her, written through the lens of fiction - one that I did enjoy reading!
PS - I was also able to alternate between the physical book and the audiobook, thanks to @RBmedia & Julianne narrates the book herself! She has such a soothing, precise and beautiful voice, making the narration & audiobook version of this book extra enjoyable!
Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me. I wasn't connecting with the story, and I have so many other books to read so I decided to move on. I looked at other reviews which weren't great so after reading those I decided to move on to another book.
"Everything We Never Knew" offers an intriguing narrative set in the serene landscapes of Utah, weaving themes of trauma, healing, and metaphysical exploration into the story. The protagonist, Lexi, embarks on a journey of self-discovery that ultimately leads to profound personal healing. However, the book’s heavy emphasis on spiritual and metaphysical elements felt overdone to me, and the writing style didn’t fully resonate. Despite my difficulties connecting with the story, it may resonate deeply with readers who appreciate a more ethereal, introspective approach.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
I’m a fan of Julianne Hough and her career I’ve followed loosely through Dancing With the Stars. The book was an easy listen, Julianne narrated the audiobook herself. The book mentions the LDS community, which is a big part of her story. But the MC is not a member of the church and is coming into new beliefs and ways to see the world. The plot is simply how to cope with being a different person as a true adult than the person you thought you were as a teenager/young adult. How do we deal with conflict and relationship issues? We walk through these questions with Lexi, the MC, and her people.
I found it interesting and entertaining. Maybe strange if taken literally, but take it as what you want.
I really tried with this audio book. I got about 70% through and I just couldn't finish. I did not enjoy the characters or the energy parts. It was too much.
I hope I will have an opportunity to preview other titles from RB Media. I did not post this review on Good Reads so that my review did not taint others as it may just not have been for me.
I really enjoyed this audiobook, the concept was fascinating and really well executed. The writing was beautiful and described things I probably would have had a hard time wrapping my head around really well. The only issue in this entire book is and I don’t know if I just somehow missed the explanation because I’m surprised. The issue is that Lexi did an action that would impact her financial lay and she mentioned that but after that no one brought it up. She was still spending heaps clearly. I still will love to recommend this book though!
