Probably one of the best books on Kim Philby's spectacular deception and betrayal - looking particularly at his relationships with those closest to him. His best friend spent years supporting him and his promotions, all the while clueless that he was a double agent. Potentially even more damaging, his close friendship with James Jesus Angleton of the CIA - his devastation at Philby's deception is said to have led to the air of paranoia that ushered in the McCarthy era. A fascinating book, highly recommended.
