This is Book 1 in the "Deputy Laney Briggs" Series and a great beginning! The story is well done and kept me interested all the time! It has all the elements I love when reading a book: suspense, humour, angst and romance, of course!
Laney used to date Gunner until she found him in bed with another woman.
Now she is engaged to the town veterinary and she is deputy sheriff. Gunner is back in town but she is over him or so she wants to believe.
There is a strong element of suspense and action and a plot that makes Laney and Gunner to work together.
Great read!

Laney Briggs thinks she has her life all figured out and everything is just where she wants it, but in the blink of an eye it's turned upside down and she is wondering what in the hell just happened. Bodies are piling up, she is trying to catch the killer, and now in walks her drop dead gorgeous devil of an ex-Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson and he wants to pick-up where they left things off...and there is no way that is happening, he has been replaced! But little by the little the sexy and oh so alluring devil clad in tight fittin' Wranglers keeps finding a way to sneak under her radar and into her business and she is fighting him every step of the way. He had his chance and he blew it and she is not about to let him do it again... well maybe?
The moment I saw the cover for this one I knew I had to read it, it spoke volumes to me, that sexy shirtless cowboy peaked my interest and I wasn't about to walk away from him without learning every little tidbit about him... and MERCY did I love what I find!! I love a good romantic suspense novel every now and then, and I have to say this is by far one of the best that I have read in a long while, Laney and Gunner were an absolute delight!! They kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, had me giggling from time to time, and blushing more times than not!! It was refreshing to read a story with a strong female heroine, that was able to stand toe to toe with the alpha male character in the story, and give him just as much as he gave her, Laney is something else!! I loved that the characters in this story came with a very realistic quality, their big personalities shined through page after page, and they made me want not want to leave when my time with them was over! Now I am dying to get back to them and see what other adventure they have in store for me!!
Highly recommend this one, it is sure to keep you entertained from start to finish!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
I love a small town romance--add in some cowboys and it's usually a sure thing. But it was really hard keeping up with all the craziness and the different characters. I appreciated the mix of the second chance romance and the meth issues, but I knew who the cuprits were basically from the beginning--there weren't any surprises for me at the end (that I skipped to see if I was right).
I am sure Ms. Linton's storytelling has grown and improved since Pretty Reckless was published a few years ago and I would love to try again with another book. DNF at 41%
Pretty Reckless is an intense mysterious read. In the center of the story is deputy Laney and the mysterious murders that start to happens when in town comes her old love Sherriff Gunner. Laney thought she was able to move forward from her past and was engage to local vet but when Gunner shows up again everything turns upside down. And Gunner is determined that Laney becomes his again. We see just Laney POV all her feelings and thinking so all other characters are little bit left behind. So that is way I cannot tell much about the Gunner. They didn’t talk much just work related and you will be mine again. I must say I liked the attraction escalation but was disappointed when there was none written.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
What a great start to a series!! I loved Pretty Reckless from the storyline banter to the character interaction this story had me living through the characters from the very first chapter. I will definitely be looking for more to read by this author
I can't give a full review on the storyline of this book because I couldn't get past the first few chapters. I absolutely could not stand the little Texas sayings and cliches that were LIBERALLY peppered throughout each chapter (i.e. Faster than snow melts in Texas, sweating more than a hog on the chopping block...). To me, that seems like a bunch of filler. Also, it was annoying!
**I received a copy of Pretty Reckless from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
Pretty Reckless by Jodi Linton is book one of her Deputy Laney Briggs series. Even though the book was published in 2014, it still has the zing that will have you turning the next page to see what kind of trouble Laney will be getting into next.
Laney Briggs is just weeks away from marrying the Pistol Rock's veterinarian, Nathan, but now she has poisoned cows from two feuding rangers, a dead body and of course Gunner Wilson her old flame and Texas Ranger (Whom she shot in the rear with rock salt when she found him in bed with another woman). But now that Gunner is back in town should she worry that old feelings can resurface? One word, Yep!
Gunner Wilson is back in town trying to find the head of a drug ring that is running huge amounts of Special K (Ketamine) through Pistol Rock. But what he'd really like is to win Laney back and before she walks down the aisle would be good. He has to protect her from someone who wants her dead after being worked over by a black ski masked person, can he do both? Find the kingpin and convince Laney he still loves her? It make take awhile but he's going to try. Laney ends up with more bruises, shot at, trying to convince her mother that maybe getting married isn't in the cards, plus fending off Nathan who's determine to convince her that she's his not Gunner's.
Pretty Reckless continues for 5 additional books, but this one gives you suspense, intrigue, murder and more all rolled into one.
Pretty Reckless by Jodi Linton is Book 1 of the Deputy Laney Briggs Series.
Ms. Linton is a new author to me and I love finding a new go-to author to add to my list. Pretty Reckless is a fun contemporary romance filled with mystery, suspense, and a small town filled with big secrets not to mention the sexy heat that kindles between sassy and strong Laney and confidently determined Gunner! A must-read that will sweep you off your feet.
