This was such a unique, beautiful read. So different, that I don’t think my words will do it justice. I really enjoyed the illustrations but also the combination with the text.
Wow, what a great book! Gorgeous illustrations and creative, catchy poems. I can see our patrons spending a lot of time in these pages. Great read-aloud poems, from real to fantastical, and I loved being able to dart in and out to different pages. There is always something more to see in the illustrations, too, so that you can return to them over and over. Broad appeal across ages, including adults.
Thanks to Tundra Books and NetGalley for the eARC!
This book is full of fun and imaginative poems. I loved these, and I wish I had this book when I was a child. These poems will bring magic alive, and I think both adults and children will enjoy this. I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy to share these poems with my own children.
I am also a huge fan of the illustrations. They are whimsical and creative and will definitely give children more to talk about.
I am not a big fan of poetry but this is great! It's quirky and funny and reminiscent of Shel Silverstein. The art is gorgeous and the coloring is bold. I will gladly recommend this at my bookstore!
This book celebrates imagination. It immediately reminded me of one of my own childhood favorites, Shel Silverstein. Upbeat and filled with whimsy. Even the art is a fun compliment to the poetry.
This is a joyous read that will leave kids smiling and laughing.
A huge thank you to Tundra Books for this amazing poetry collection. I read that Burgess is the modern-day Silverstein, and I can see why. His poetry is bright and full of life. I will definitely be getting this collection for our school library. It will breathe new life into our Speech Arts program.
Matthew Burgess is a modern-day Shel Silverstein (my all-time favorite poet until today)…and his newest treasure, aptly titled Words with Wings and Magic Things, is pure perfection.
This collection of whimsical poems is filled with hilarious rhymes, delightful illustrations, and a touch of inspiration and wisdom mixed in. Things You Can Do reminds readers that their capabilities are endless. Feeling the Colors encourages children to explore their emotions in a new way. Alligator on the A Train will make everyone giggle and A Terrible, Horrible Idea will put a smile on even the grouchiest of faces.
I cannot wait to see my students’ reactions when I add this to my poetry unit as soon as it’s published!
