This was okay, and as usual, the conflict of her breaking her ethical rules on her job with this guy made me uncomfortable but I also liked both leads
Read not on netgalley as the audiobook disappeared but enjoyed the book on the whole. Very spicy which I loved, and lots of chemistry. Some minor things I didn't love but overall a good read
[book:Fifty Shades of Grey|10818853] rewritten. Experienced dom instantly attracted to innocent girl and wants her to be his sub? Check. Experienced dom is rich and famous? Check. Potential sub is writing an article on famous guy? Check. Dom was introduced to the BDSM world by older married female dom who was a close friend of the family? Check. Need I go on?
Even Andi Arndt's narration couldn't save this.
I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Well this one surprised me and not in a good way. I did not realize the premise when I requested. Full of bdsm and voyeurism,
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity..
Thank you NetGalley and Fallon Greer for the ARC of The Player’s Club!! I love a good hockey romance and this is didn’t disappoint! Gave me 50 Shades vibes and I’m here for it!
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
I received an audio copy of this for my honest review.
Andi Arndt and Stephen Dexter are amazing in these roles! This book gives 50 Shades meets Hockey vibes.
Our FMC is a journalist for a gossip magazine. Her assignment is to get a story on our MMC, one of the hottest hockey players in LA. When she discovers that he is using a decoy to escape the stadium and go to an undisclosed location - she follows, but never expected what she was going to find. She sneaks in pretending to be a server, and is shocked to find that she has entered a s*x club. They meet, but she pretends not to know him, trying to see if there is a story - but also realizing even if there is, she won't share it. He keeps his life private because he has a disposition not only to watch, but really what he wants is to have a consensual BDSM Dom/Sub relationship, and he wants it with her. Not only does she need to figure out how to approach this situation as the way they met is kinda shady, she also breaks up with her boyfriend because it just fizzled out. But when he learns of a family friends cancer diagnosis, who just happens to be the woman who brought him into the BDSM world - he is shaken, not of missing her, but of anger. Can he deal with his past and understand that it wasn't the relationship he thought it was? Will her secret break the trust they built?
This book didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It seemed to blend elements from a well-known BDSM series with the current popular hockey romance trope, featuring the same familiar dynamics of a dominant male and a shy female. I was uncomfortable with Elodie leaving her boyfriend for Mac. Also, hate that Mac was a victim of sexual assault as a teen by a married older woman and romanticized it throughout the book like the other popular series did. The relationship between Elodie and Mac also felt extremely rushed; it seemed like she was in love with him from the start.
On the positive side, the club setting was intriguing and different from many other spicy books I've read. I almost wished the story had delved more into that aspect rather than focusing on Mac’s background. Overall, the book had potential but didn’t fully deliver for me.
The narrators did a good job with their performance, though their voices didn’t quite match the characters I had envisioned based on the book’s cover. Their pacing and tone were spot on, however.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and Fallon Greer for the audiobook.
I requested this book cause I thought it would be another hockey romance book , but honestly this book needs trigger warnings cause the dark secret that the mfc is discovered is that she like frequenting a bdsm sex club. I find the summary and the cover to be misleading about the whole story. On the plus side it is duel narrators that which o like when it’s male and female characters, and not one doing the voice doing both. I’m giving 3 stars just because I feel like the whole thing is misleading and they should have disclosed that it bdsm
I was completely misled by the cover. I know that many smutty or spicy books often have cute cartoon covers, and I'm usually fine with that. However, for stories involving heavier themes like BDSM and sex clubs, I think the cover should better reflect the content. Personally, I'm not a fan of BDSM or sex club themes, and I usually avoid them unless it's from an author I'm already familiar with.
This book is basically Fifty Shades of Grey if Christian Grey were a hockey player. The similarities are striking, from the female journalist main character to the older woman who groomed the male lead—seriously?
On top of that, the female main character is emotionally cheating on her current boyfriend by lusting after the male lead and planning to have something with him at the sex club, but only after she "breaks up" first. Sorry, but that’s still cheating, and I can't support a character like that.
🎧The best part of this book is the narration. Stephen Dexter and Andi Arnt did an amazing job, which is the only reason I was able to finish it. They can do no wrong in my book.
Thank you to DREAMSCAPE MEDIA & NETGALLEY for the access to the audiobook, this is my honest review.

2.5 stars
This is an okay BDSM light book with so much potential. I wasn’t expecting this kind of story based on the cover, but I was pleasantly surprised once it started. However, once the actual story started it didn’t go as well as I was hoping.
Reporter trying to get a story on a hockey player finds him in a sex club and gets caught up as a sub to said hockey player’s dom, but it just seemed cringe to me. The sex scenes and words made me cringe and the whole relationship seemed surface and lacked any depth or actual feelings. Elody and Mac went from infatuation to love in the blink of an eye and we didn’t get to experience their relationship evolve or their BDSM relationship evolve.
The stuff about Caroline had potential, but seemed like it was added in for drama, but was inconsistent enough to actually spark any for me.
The whole third act break up was exactly what I thought it was going to be, but seemed flaccid and bland. It also got resolved way too quickly and cleanly.
It’s also inconsequential that Mac is a hockey player. It’s mentioned but basically in passing. He could’ve been any nameless/faceless millionaire (if he wasn’t something rich why would tabloids be interested in him).
Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt did fantastic jobs with what they had to work with. Andi (as always) gave life and emotions to Elody who was otherwise lacking any. Stephen and his smooth as silk voice gave Mac that intense aloofness that I imagine Mac had.
Thank you Dreamscape Select and Fallon Greer for the ALC.
Narrated by Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt
Mac and Elodie is a professional hockey player and he been in the news about an affair with a marry woman but not everything it what it seems and Elodie is a reporter who actually want to be an author. So her boss tell him he want dirt on him and to follow which she does and its to a a şèxx club. which she pretend to work there but she isnt really that good at it and Mac save her and is intrigue by her.. and she also has a boyfriend and later break up with him and shestart a relafionship with Mac until he find out who she is because he investigate her because of his lawyer advice
🔥 The Player's Club is a sizzling romance that takes you deep into the world of secrets and temptation. 🔥
Elodie navigates the mysterious and elite Player’s Club, where she meets Mac who is equal parts alluring and enigmatic. The tension between them is palpable, making for a thrilling read, though I found myself wanting more depth in the characters’ emotional arcs.
A solid read for fans of spicy contemporary romance with a bit of intrigue. Excited to see what's next from Greer!
Did not realize the premise when I requested! Unfortunately not for me but if you love bdsm and voyeurism, this is the one for you!
This book had me engaged and interested in the main characters Elodie and “Mac” from the start! This steamy hockey romance was full of ups and downs while maintaining the spice. When Elodie tries to find an angle for her tabloid story and ends up following Mac into the Scarlett Rope BDSM Club I was shocked. Once exploring the club trying to find her mark Elodie starts on a path of her own sexual discovery learning more about herself and falling for the hockey star and hidden dom, Cole “Mac” Mackenzie.
Upon starting a Dom/Sub relationship with her taploid target Elodie falls for Mac and puts everything, including her job on the line for this new relationship all while hiding the fact that she is a reporter. Throughout their relationship Mac opens up about his past with a former Pastor’s wife who is a secret Domme. With the passing of his former lover and the relationship with Elodie he learns that maybe his past isn’t what he wanted to believe.
The Player’s Club is an excellent debut for Fallon Greer. The characters and the world that was created kept me engaged and intrigued throughout the story. While the topics covered can be difficult for some readers the spicy allowed for a break from the heavy topics of the story and turned it into a hot and heavy romance. Personally, I loved this book and can’t wait for the next from Fallon Greer!
The Player's Club is a fifty shades of grey version of sports romance by debut author Fallon Greer. It follows the star hockey Player Cole Mackenzie and tabloid reporter Elodie Andrews. Elodie's latest assignment is to find some dirt on Mac.
As she follows Mac after a game, he unexpectedly leads her to a secret club that turns out to be a sex club named The Scarlet Rope. Intrigued, she manages to enter the club and what she finds there quickly turns from intrigue to fascination, especially when she meets Mac and founds out he's a Dom. As they get to know each other sparks quickly fly and then some.
The plot is predictable and Mac has the exact same trauma as Christian Grey.
I have read a number of reviews that have compared this book to 50 Shades and I'll say to start with that I haven't read 50 Shades. I enjoyed aspects of this book. I liked the development of the characters and the relationship between Mac and Elodie. I also really liked the racial representation. The writing felt a little stilted but listening to this as an audiobook was good. The narrators, Stephen Dexter and Andi Arndt were really good! However, the book needed more hockey.
Big thanks to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select and Fallon Greer for an early release copy of this audiobook. This is my honest review.
This review is for the audio version which I received as an ALC from NetGalley. Thanks NetGalley!
Andi Arnt and Stephen Dexter do fabulous jobs with these characters as expected. Both are favorites of mine already for their incredible narrations.
I think overall it's a good debut book. It's got some shortfalls, but I think the writing was pretty good and the characters not insufferable.
I just have one (kind of big) issue with the BDSM aspect of this book. It feels clear that the writer either is not that familiar with sex clubs/BDSM/D/s dynamics or just didn't do their research. It felt like someone read Fifty Shades, took the grooming backstory and put it in this book, and thought the fifty shades representation of this lifestyle was good enough to expand on. Which unfortunately sometimes made the spice cringe, and sometimes it was just plain harmful.
Regardless I think some people with less education on the subject would really enjoy this book. It's spicy and fun and there is a tiny bit of hockey? Kind of?
I felt like with time things like the MMC's estranged parents will have more of an emotional impact as well. Still a good debut.
Spectacular. Yes. I want approximately 669 books in this universe. So hot. So romantic. So good. Highly recommend.
(Before we get down to it I need to say this, Stephen Dexter is a major voice crush - 100% single-handedly the reason I picked this up. Did not disappoint, and Andi Arndt as FMC did a wonderful job as well. The audiobook is definitely worth a listen just for the two of them!)
Ummm.
Woah…?
Okay, DO NOT be fooled by the cartoon cover on this one. It’s dirty, from the get go. I’m no novice in spicy books, and yes I’ve read spicier, but for some reason I really feel like this doesn’t put out the energy that it’s going to be what it is.
So, I’ll go ahead and lay it out: Sex clubs, Voyeurism, Group Activities (not the main couple, just depicted during the voyeur/sex club scenes,) BDSM, Dom/sub relationship, major past trauma concerning a minor (grooming and statutory rape,) and in case it’s a trigger for anyone the first third of the book is a kinda strange dynamic where the FMC is pursuing the MMC while dating another man, no explicit physical cheating but it’s definitely pushing emotional boundaries. A gray area, for sure, but for me I personally didn’t love it.
Now having said all that. This book gave weird vibes. It’s like the author was trying to shove ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ into an Elle Kennedy Hockey Romance. I’m not altogether sure it was successful. Elodie is our FMC, she’s a tabloid journalist assigned to Mac, superstar hockey player (currently in hot water for having an affair with a married woman.) One night in an attempt to scope out some dirt Elodie trails Mac to a mysterious meeting, which turns out to be at an ultra exclusive kink club. She sneaks in and it’s pretty much insta-love when he spots her posing as a server from across the room. Here ensues a lot of fodder for later conflict: she tells him she’s a writer but not about her job tailing him, he tells her he’s a famous athlete and values his privacy (of course he’s hiding a lot of major trauma and family baggage.) He then invites her to come back to the club as a guest of his in the future. They circle each other for a while until eventually she signs a contract to become his submissive.
There’s some wild twists and turns in this, and unfortunately, even with all that going on, the end of the story feels like it comes on quite suddenly. So, some of the angst is left unresolved and ultimately unfulfilling.
Earlier in my review I said that I’d recommend this for the audiobook narrators, and that’s maybe all I would do. Should the same narrators do the sequel, I’d be willing to listen to it, but honestly I’d probably not go out of my way to read the book otherwise. Not terrible, but I definitely thought the tone was a bit off pretty much the whole way through. Do with that info what you will.
