FBI agent Meg Jennings and her canine Hawk are back for another intense search and rescue. This one takes them to Colorado in search of a missing plane that was hijacked. Their goal once the wreckage is found is to locate the person who caused the crash. This is no easy assignment as they have never encounter this type of environment, the weather, mountains and difference in high altitude oxygen for her and her partner. How did this happen when this was a private plane and everyone knew who was onboard.
This is another great story in the FBI K-9 series and it is easy to follow if you haven’t read any of the previous books.
Thank you #netgalley #kensington #FBIK-9 #summitsedge for this ARC
A hijacked corporate plane has crashed in the mountains of Colorado.
FBI K-9 handlers Meg with her dog Hawk, and her partner Brian and his dog Lacey are off to Aspen Colorado. Two weeks before Meg’s wedding. They are joining the search and rescue mission to track possible survivors.
I have a fear of heights and could feel Meg fighting her own fear. I felt as if I was on that mountain with them.
Suspense, detailed descriptions, lives on the line, battling weather, altitude sickness and so much more on this dangerous mission.
This story had me captivated.
Thank you Sara Driscoll, NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read this book
I've read most of Sara Driscoll's FBI K-9 series starring FBI handler Meg Jennings and her K-9 partner, Hawk, but this one made my teeth hurt on the first page because the character who opened the book (in the Prologue) was so whiney about her job, the task she'd been assigned, her coworkers--
“probably without so much as a thank-you from the sainted Gloria.”
It’s her job! What's that Dixie Chick line--
"Shut up and sing"
--that resonated with so many people, it became a movie? She wouldn't be whining for long. Within moments of her complaints, disaster struck. Fast forward to the FBI rescue of a downed plane in the Colorado Rockies. Normally Meg wouldn't be involved in this, but the hijacker who brought the plane down did so with gunfire and it was unclear if he--or others--survived the crash and where they eventually landed. Meg and her amazing working dog, Hawk, are best equipped for this task. Meg is up for this assignment as always, but she needs to hurry it to a resolution because her wedding is in two weeks. Multiple teams are dispatched, in varied directions, following the nominal available clues. A lot of time is spent discussing procedures for mountain rescue, using dogs in thin high altitude air to follow scents, and the care required to keep man and beast safe while hunting for survivors. It definitely slowed the action in places, though if you’re into procedurals, you won't feel that at all. Overall, this is an excellent story with lots of excitement and dog interactions. If this is your sort of story, you will love it as much as I did.
I love this series but then I love anything with a dog all jokes aside it’s a well plotted good series with engaging characters and I loved the setting of this one
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me
I absolutely love this series by Sara Driscoll (aka Jen J Danna). With the FBI - K9 series each book just seems to get better and better, if that’s even possible. The anticipation is like welcoming back a close friend who you don’t get to see very often. Meg and Brian and their significant others and their dogs bring us a shot of reality. The characters are so relatable.
I love how each chapter begins with a definition of something related to the theme of the story. The story builds with gradual anticipation and you do t know what to expect. Each turn of the page leads to more suspense and thrills of excitement. I would certainly recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for allowing me to read this Advanced Reader's Copy.
In this latest installment in the series FBI K-9 teams Meg and Hawk and Brian and Lacey are dispatched to Aspen Colorado to assist in locating a plane that crashed somewhere in the mountains. Normally the FBI wouldn’t get involved but a report of a hijacking was called in right before the crash. So in addition to searching for survivors, the teams need to locate the hijacker.
I really enjoyed this one. In addition to the usual difficulty of tracking an unknown suspect, the teams have to contend with the difficulty of working in unfamiliar terrain at high altitude. The author really makes you feel like you are right there on the mountain. A hard book to put down.
Rockies, Meg and Bryan,(along with Hawk & Lacey), are called in to find survivors. The premise pulled me in at the start and I had to read this one straight through. The tension grew with every step they made toward the survivors and the hi-jacker. The dangers of searching at higher elevations multiplied the suspense level for me. I always enjoy learning the more technical side of the dangers and the solutions. The camaraderie of the characters and the support they offer each other is so satisfying. I can hardly wait for the next book.
Summits edge is the 9th book in Sara Driscoll’s FBI K-9 series. This centers around the search for a highjacked corporate jet that goes down in the Colorado Rockies. FBI K-9 handles Meg and her partner Brian along with K-9 partners Hawk and Lacey are off to search for the plane crash and any survivors. This is another winner and I highly recommend the whole series. I enjoyed some references to details from those earlier books and can’t wait for the series to continue.
A place crashes in the Colorado mountains. Moments before someone on board had been shot. FBI handler Meg Jennings, who is two weeks away from her wedding to a firefighter, and K-9 partner Hawk are called in along with friend/partner Brian and K-9 partner Lacey. Battling weather, altitude, and attempting to locate possible survivors in the dark makes this one dangerous mission.
This book is all about the human and K-9 partners, how they work together and the process they go through to search for survivors and a killer. We are there for all of it including the prep. The level of detail is impressive and you learn a lot about mountain climbing and the process of a search and rescue as well as how handlers and K-9 partners work together. Hawk and Lacey are very impressive! There are also some friends on the outside that help.
The amount of detail, including dialogue from local teams there to assist, sometimes makes the pace feel slow. However, it feels like you're right there on the mountain with them and everything feels so realistic. I really appreciated that.
This is the ninth book in the series and there is some mention of previous cases Meg and Brian have been on. It made me excited to read them as the plots sound amazing and I feel this is a well researched series where you'll learn something new each time!
I love this cover which is what originally got my attention.Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read! Summit's Edge comes out November 26.
FBI K-9 handler Meg and her search dog Hawk (with teammates Brian and Lacey) fly cross-country to aid in a search effort in the Rocky Mountains. A corporate jet has been hijacked (hence the need for FBI) and crashed into a "fourteener" [really high] mountain peak.
This is the ninth book in a series that I have devoured as each book is available. This one did not appeal to me as much as the prior books. Possibly because I share Meg's fear of heights?
Like all the others in the series, the author's painstaking research is obvious: mountain climbing, airplane mechanics, rifles and snipers, high altitude illness, avalanche survival ... You are guaranteed to learn something -- and enjoy doing so -- in a Sara Driscoll book.
Wow, y'all! Every book in this series gets better and better. FYI, the first book was pretty great on its own.
From the thrill of the chase and the description of the Rocky Mountains to the depths of the relationships and the empathy for those in harms way, this book has it all.
If you love action-packed mystery thrillers, dogs, and wee bit of romance, you'll love Summit's Edge.
Happy Reading!
Summit's Edge the latest book by Sara Driscoll did not disappoint.
This book was exciting as K-9
handlers Meg Jennings and her dog Hawk along with partner Brian and his dog Lacey meet up with two FBI team members out of the Denver field office and Mountain Rescue Aspen to search for survivors of a plane that crashed in the Elk Mountain region of Aspen, CO on Pyramid Peak that was brought down by a hijacker.
The teams started their trek up the steep peaks to look for any survivors and the hijacker had me engrossed from beginning to end. The details of the hike and the excitement and drama that everyone went through to find survivors will keep you staying up late to read.
Summit edge is number nine in the FBI K9 series and it doesn’t disappoint. I couldn’t put this one down and finished in a few hours. The way the author described the mountains made you feel as if you were there and the twist and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. The details about church rescue really bring home the dangers these teams face. The characters are some of my favorites and I can’t wait to read more.
Summit’s Edge by Sara Driscoll starts off with the intensity of a Barron pharma plane being hijacked over the dangerous, icy terrain of the Colorado mountains.
After the quick prologue that drew me into the story, FBI K9 handler, Meg, her partner Brian, and their amazing dogs take center stage. Meg’s wedding is in two weeks, and she has a fear of heights, but doesn’t let either of those issues stop her from stepping up to the plate. The level of research and awareness had me glued to the pages.
This story raced with a complicated search. The author did a good job at using dialogue to help orient the reader to what the rescue crew was up against, but in some places, heavy dialogue slowed the action. Either way, I like when I learn something new in a story. Although I highly doubt I’ll ever be anywhere so cold there is a snow avalanche, I know now how to handle being buried alive by snow. The team put in a lot of effort to bring Brian back, and the author’s vivid description had me on edge, worried that he might suffocate under the ice!
I received this book through Net Galley and was not required to give a positive review.
Always love a great K-9 story, and the series continues to excel. Excellent plot with lots of action plus characters you like to like make this book a welcome addition.
I’ve read many of Sara Driscoll’s books, although Summits’ Edge is the first time I read a book in the K-9 series. I always thought that this series was “not for me” – I was wrong! I am planning to back now to read the earlier books in the series.
Meg and Brian, and their K-9 canine partners Hawk and Lacey, are sent to the mountains of Colorado near Aspen, on a search mission for a suspected plane hijacker, who caused a crash after killing a passenger. The amount of research that went into the book is easy to see, with the level of details that supports the story and makes it feel like we are there with them. Like Meg, I am not comfortable with heights, and her ability to work through her fear is impressive.
In addition to the story, I enjoyed meeting the characters and all the different ways they work as a team – Meg and her K-9 Hawk, human partners Meg and Brian, Brian and his K-9 Lacey, and also the K-9s Hawk and Lacey work together as a team.
I highly recommend this book! I enjoyed this story and would like to read others in series. Thank you , Net Galley, the publishers, and author Sara Driscoll for allowing me to read the advance copy of this book.
Perilous search for a hijacked plane in high mountains!
Treacherous weather conditions, a dangerous fleeing hijacker and deadly mountain terrain make this a high-octane search and rescue. Meg Jennings and her K-9 Hawk face extreme challenges to find a downed plane. The plane crashed in an area of Colorado with 13-14,000 ft peaks. Brian Foster and his dog Lacey are also deploying on the search. If the weather, the mountain, or altitude doesn’t get them the fleeing gunman may.
Time is of the essence and if there are survivors of the crash hypothermia is a threat. Meg’s wedding to Todd Webb is only 2 weeks away. Local FBI agents join Meg and Brian. Everyone on the team knows the urgency and danger of the search. Meg's friend investigative reporter Clay McCord provides insight into the hijacker’s motives.
This 9th entry in the FBI K-9 series has terrifyingly real descriptions of the hazards of mountain searches. Meg and Brian’s partners back home are increasingly concerned by the perilous search. Sara Driscoll contrasts the escalating dangers with the warmth of support from Meg’s family and friends back home. There is no let-up of the suspenseful tension. I was eagerly turning pages to the end. I devoured this addition to an excellent series! Recommended for readers who enjoy Margaret Mizushima, Paula Munier, Paul Doiron and C J Box.
Thanks to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for access to a digital ARC.
Good suspense with strong characters.
Meg is an FBI special handler, who with her FBI sanctioned canine companion, Hawk, is sent off to the Aspen area of Colorado to find a downed plane's possible survivors.
To complicate the search, there is an armed hijacker who apparently killed a passenger just before
the plane crashed into the mountains, on the loose.
Engrossing story with some education on search and rescue terms thrown in as well as the mystery surrounding the downed plane which carried the entire hierarchy of Barron Pharmaceutical's, currently under FBI investigation.
What I found dragging was the pages of descriptions on mountain search and rescue and the supplies that needed to be carried.
Meg and Brian were totally interesting characters as well as Lady and Hawk, their canine partners.
Summit's Edge is the 9th book in the FBI K-9 series.
Consultant Meg Jennings is a K-9 handler who works with the FBI.
Her and Hawk, a black Lab, and coworker Brian Foster along with Lacey, a German Shepherd are scent to an assignment in the mountains of Colorado just two weeks before Meg's wedding.
A private plane owned by a pharmasudical company is highjacked shortly after takeoff.
The flight attendant is able to get word to the Flight tower about the situation shortly before the plane crashes in the mountains around Aspen Colorado.
Pro's:
This was a good book with developed characters, a strong plot line and lots of action.
I also enjoyed the fact that while the situations and actions were fast paced and constant.
It was a clean read as far as language went.
Con's:
This is a highly technical book, that along with some referrences to previous books.
I would recommend reading the series in order.
I'd like to thank NetGalley and the author for allowing me to read this Advanced Reader's Copy.
Thanks to Netgally and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for honest review!
This was a very interesting, extremely detailed novel about searching for a suspected hijacker in the mountains of Colorado. I feel like I learned so much about mountain climbing and altitude sickness! As someone who has a fear of heights, the descriptions of the settings were so incredibly detailed that I felt as if I were right there with the team of searchers on the mountain. This is the only book I've read in this series and it definitely worked as a standalone.
I really enjoyed this book!
