Watch Your Back by Terri Parlato
Publishing date - 12/24/23
Rating (5/5) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you Netgalley , Kensington , and the author for this e-ArC. This book has me hooked from the prologue. It’s a fast-paced page turner that is full of thrills and suspense.
Watch Your Back by Terri Parlato is the third book featuring detective Rita. Eve and Nathan’s baby is stolen which starts a series of sinister things happening to the couple. Third iBook in the series , however you do not have to read any of the previous novels to follow this story. The story is told in multiple POVs which are easy to keep straight and kept the story flowing smoothly. If you are a thriller fan, this is one not to miss!

This book sucked you in at the prologue and overall was an enjoyable read. Through the beginning and middle the pacing is a bit slow and there are some random chapters about the detective’s family that didn’t quite feel like they fit with the story but otherwise I enjoyed it! Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my eARC in exchange for my honest review
Special thanks to NetGalley and the author for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.
Watch Your Back by Terri Parlato is the third book featuring detective Rita. Eve and Nathan’s baby is stolen which starts a series of sinister things happening to the couple. There is good character development and suspense in this novel. You do not have to read any of the previous novels to follow this story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes slow burn mysteries.
This is the third book I read by this author and, unfortunately, this one is now my least favourite. :(
It is a quick read, I'll say that. But it didn't really worked for me.
I did not like the characters (maybe I did like the babysitter and Rita is a decent character, alright), I found the plot and the couple's issues to be very clichéd and predictable and, even though I usually loooove the kidnapping or missing baby/child trope, in this book I just didn't care for it. Possibly because I didn't care for the parents...?!
The twists and turns were functional, yet predictable and...I don't know. I'll even dare say Parlato's writing seems different from her two previous novels. 'different' in a negative way. :(
Anyway, I personally didn't love this book. But I can easily see other readers enjoying it more than I did.
Thank you, Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing, for providing me with a free eARC of this novel.
Great, quick read
This had a good plot - a psychiatrist and her husband are not in a good point in their marriage. But when their infant daughter is kidnapped, things take a worse turn.
This caught my attention from the start and I read it with only a break of few hours. It is not a thrill-a-minute book or one that will stick with me for a long time (other than the reminder of how hard it is for people dealing with serious mental illness), but I thoroughly enjoyed this and recommend it.
Well done thriller. While rooting for this couple’s marriage, they appear to be the target of a vengeful plot. Unsure if you should trust the wife, the author does a great job in creating tension and building to a satisfying ending.
I really enjoy Terri Parlato's books, and Watch Your Back was no exception. Eve was an interesting character, and I liked reading about her marriage with Nathan. I had a lot of sympathy for him even though what he did was terrible. Even though I enjoyed it, I would say this is a slow burn as it seemed like a lot of the book was questioning the same suspects with no real progress being made on the case. I did figure out who the villain was, although there were enough red herrings that I kept doubting myself. I also guessed one of the connections, but I absolutely did not guess the motive or all the other ways things were connected. There are certainly a lot of twists at the end that were very surprising! Some reviewers have said they didn't think the detective's family life had any place in the story, but this is the third book in the series and her family life has always been part of the story. So, I didn't think it was out of place at all. I would recommend this book and the whole series as well!
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the ARC.
I really really enjoyed this one. This one had me in complete suspense the whole time, and honestly, I couldn’t guess a single thing😅. But I feel like there was something missing in the end of the book, I can’t put my figure on what, but it feels like the last chapter made the ending a little flat after that big plot twist
This was a well written, mystery/thriller book that will keep you guessing and questioning everything.
I loved the style that the author wrote this book in. It followed three characters, where each chapter was a different persons POV. Also, every chapter wasn’t very long, so it kept the flow of the story going, and made you want to continually keep turning the page.
The story follows a married couple Eve and Nathan and their infant daughter Rosewyn. Both people in the relationship are flawed in their own way, which leads to everything that follows in the story. You also follow along with a detective named Rita who gets assigned to their case. You meet all the suspicious major players throughout the book, and the last 20% is a wild ride!
I thought this book was well done and all the pieces at the end fit together and wasn’t confusing. And there was a lot of different elements that had to come together that could’ve messed up the book completely, but Terri did a fantastic job. I fully recommend!
Thank you to NetGalley and Terri Parlato for allowing me to read this advance reader copy. Publication date December 24, 2024.
Slow yet quite short. This story needs some fleshing out; in both plot and characterization. It was decent enough but was lacking. Nothing very interesting.
This one didn't live up to the previous two books in this series for me. I loved All the Dark Places, liked What Waits in the Woods, and didn't feel really anything at all for this one. It might be the end of the series for me going forward. In general though, I love this author's writing style and I would love to read something new and fresh from her in the future.
This book was decent, but it didn't quite match up to her other works I've read. At times, it was captivating and engaging, but there were also moments when it became bogged down by excessive details and repetitive visits to the same group of suspects, which detracted from the enjoyment. The ending had some twists, but it felt unrealistic, as if it aimed to connect too many plot points when just a couple would have sufficed, which didn’t sit well with me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for the complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book by Terri Parlato follows Eve, and her husband Nathan and infant daughter. The action starts when the baby is found missing while with the elderly babysitter, who we learn a lot about throughout the course of the book. There are some slow parts, but overall it was an intriguing and fun book to read. Someone is after Eve and her family, and wants to make her pay - who is it and what will they do? Read to find out! I also didnt realize this was part of anthology with the lead detective, Rita - so I am interested to check out other books with her leading the investigation.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fast-paced page turner that is full of thrills and suspense. I was glued to the pages from the beginning. Detective Rita Myers is back! While this can be read as a stand alone, it is the third book in the series. The story is told in multiple POVs which are easy to keep straight and kept the story flowing smoothly. If you are a thriller fan, this is one not to miss!

Domestic thriller that was lacking depth. It was a very quick read and seemed to have missed the mark. This is an honest review after reading ARC provided by NetGalley. Publish date is Dec 24, 2024.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend all of the authors previous books. A brilliant, well written thriller about a seemingly perfect family being stalked and tormented. Who's behind it? Every character becomes a suspect in your head. Fabulous story, five big stars.
Thank you, Kensington Books for the copy of Watch Your Back by Terri Palato. Maybe I should have been warned by the backwards R on the cover, but I don’t think this book was for me. The prologue was interesting, but after that, the story didn’t grab me. I never connected with the characters, and there were a LOT of characters! The end was a good surprise. And if you don’t mind a book that meanders through the story you might love this one.
This book was pretty good, not as good as others I read by her. There were times it was interesting and engrossing and then other times when there were too many details, too many visits to the same group of suspects without anything new happening. The ending was pretty twisty but also not believable, like it was intended to tie up all these things together when one or two ties would have been plenty, so that didn't work for me. Why over complicate things just to make more twists than are necessary. The main characters marriage was interesting, the detective family story seemed like it had no place in the story.
Eve and Nathan are parents to nine months old Roselyn. They’ve lost their spark which leads to Nathan having an affair with Nicole. Their baby goes missing from the babysitter’s house and everyone becomes a suspect. This is a predictable slow burn mystery. Thank you to NetGalley and publisher for a copy.
Watch your back by Teri parlato
I have enjoyed this author and how engulfed I get in each story. The beginning completely wraps you up and keeps you intrigued throughout.
The middle started to get slow and mundane but then got pretty intense again toward the end. Overall I enjoyed the premise and the characters! What an enjoyable story!
Thank you NetGalley and Kensington publishing for this arc!
