This series is consistently well done, and my favorite bits include Josie using her powers with books. This is a nice addition to the series, with Josie faced with a surprise visit from her mother, choices about revealing her status as a witch, and a solid mystery.
I enjoy this series. Who wouldn't love being a librarian in an historic building in a small town. I enjoy the characters. The mystery kept me guessing. I can't wait to find out what happens next.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Josie is one of my all-time favorite sleuths in cozy mysteries! This entire series just feels like returning home and I love spending time with this magical librarian. Angela M. Sanders is so good at creating an atmosphere that feels alive. I always look forward to seeing how Josie will use books and her surroundings to solve the mystery!
Josie and Wilfred,Oregon residents are trying to find out who is sending poisoned pen letters. Also the Reverend has passed after being shut in for two years. His caretakers are holding an estate sale that the town is wanting to attend. An enjoyable read with lovable characters. Thanks #Netgalley and #Kensington for the eARC in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are mine.
Reverend Clarence Duffy has died and the town is excited to see inside his house since he had been a shut in for two years. It's called the Aerie and there's going to be an estate sale. His son Adam had been his caretaker. It is he, his brother Benjamin and Benjamin's wife who are running the estate sale.
But that's not the biggest news in Josie's life; it's what her mother says to her as they're leaving that chills her to the bone. She sees disaster ahead. Josie needs to tell Will that she's a witch.
I liked this book since it moved a number of relationships along. The mystery was sort of a side piece but we get to learn more about Josie and Will as well as her parents.
Four stars

Opinions are my own
It took me a little while to warm up to Josie's mom, Nora who had her own agenda for visiting spontaneously, but she was a pretty good sleuthing buddy and sounding board for Josie's theories. Nora's personal reason for coming worked out at the end, but along with the murder itself another mystery had cropped up, and the town expected Josie to solve it. Which was where Nora came in handy, if she'd embrace her witchy powers.
The showdown was a good one and Nora even got to help a little. Once both mysteries were solved, the town could breathe a sigh of relief and people were friends again. I was kinda disappointed in the actual ending, so that along with another possible side story have me eager to dig into the next book when it's out.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies, and my opinions are my own.
Another fun visit with Josie and the residents of Wilfred, Oregon. I love how Josie has become an integral part of the community and the way they come together to figure out who is writing the poisoned pen letters but it should have been obvious from the start and the way that was dragged on drove me batty! Also, Josie finally, FINALLY realizes that she has to tell Sam about her powers but again, it is so drawn out… it’s been 6 books! Also, there was one questionable comment about Mother Teresa that didn’t sit well with me. The mystery was well-paced and there were quite a few red herrings to keep you guessing. This series has almost redeemed itself since the last one and I am hoping the next one gets it back on track.
The Witch is Back is the sixth book in the Witch Way Librarian mystery series by Angela M.Sanders. I love this series set in small town oregon and featuring a witchy librarian. Josie is joined by her mother Nora in this book. Her mother is involved in a trial separation from her father and is searching for what's missing in her life. Josie is trying to help her while still developing her own magic. Her mother, Nora, comes to visit with little notice.
The mystery surrounds a dilapidated estate of a newly passed pastor, poison pen letters going out with secrets involving almost everyone in town, the death of towns member and a charming stranger interested in Josie's mother. All these issues are on top of the underlying mystery from teh past few books of Josie's magic and the "dark force" that seems to be targeting her.
The poison pen plot was a bit obvious, but because there was so much other things going on in the book that didn't take away from my enjoyment or my interest. I love when there is a bigger mystery going on in a series, so I can't wait for book 7 to see who is targeting Josie. I would recommend reading the rest in the series to get the full enjoyment of the plot as there is a lot to absorb if you are just starting with this one.
This is one of my favourite cozy series. The world Sanders has created is so wonderfully magical & yet still so real. She has also imagined some of the most eccentric side characters, that really make the books wonderful. This time we’re dealing with a poison pen letter writer, which could lead to Josie’s big secret being revealed. And then a murder. So there’s really two matters to solve, but are they connected? Delving into Josie’s relationship with her mother was also a highlight. And how the two mysteries came together well accomplished very adeptly.
Truly this is one of the most charming cozy series you could read. Each book is as good as the last & I anxiously await more!
This was a new series to me. I did enjoy the characters and after seeing the other readers who have left reviews after reading the whole series up to this point I will go back and read the rest of the series to help me fill in some gaps.
Overall this is a good book with a slow burn romance. I loved the poison pen concept and the chaos it was causing.
I am rounding this to 3.5 stars ⭐️and only because it seemed a little slow to me.
Thank you NetGalley for chance to read this arc. All options are my own.
Josie needs to figure out who is sending poison pen letters to the locals. While all the other letters allude to past transgressions, Josie receives a letter that is a little different from the others. She wasn’t there during the time. The transgressions of the residence occurred, is it the same sender?
Things have been off for a while and with her mother in town, Josie knows she needs to address whatever is going on. Between solving the mysterious case of the poison pen letters and sharing her secret with Sam before someone else does, will she also be able to solve a murder and save her parents marriage? Something wicked has come.
This series is so well written. I love how each entry is a solid whodunit, but also progresses the lives of the characters in the book. Rodney is my favorite furry cozy character. Just so much to love in this series and I can never wait for the next book in the series to be released.
This is such a good cozy book. I love the whole series so far and always get excited when I see a new one is out. This was a good mystery, one of the mysteries I figured out pretty early but the other had me stumped. This book did end with some questions unanswered so I hope we get the next one soon! Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced reader copy.
Man, I love these cheesy books. I really hope that #7 comes quickly because I feel like this one left way too much unresolved. It's the only one in the series that had an ending like this! I need Josie & Sam together. I need to find out what the evil magic is! Ugh. These are not really well written at all, but I absolutely love all of them. I finished this last night and now I'm listening to the audiobook version.
Book # 6 in one of my FAVORITE cozy mystery series and it was just as delightful as ever. I loved how we got to meet Josie's mom and learn more about her history as someone who was suppressing her magic and maybe finally coming to terms with it. The mystery was so intriguing (I guessed one piece and was SHOCKED by the other). Josie finally talks to Sam about being a witch.... how does it go?! YOU'LL HAVE TO READ TO FIND OUT! Needless to say I am DYING for the next book. I also love how there are some long term plots that are starting to reveal themselves, like who/what is trying to interfere with Josie's magic?!
I already miss Josie and this eclectic, cozy town and library!
The Witch Is Back is book #6 in the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries series by Angela M. Sanders.
Josie is a librarian and a witch that books ‘talk’ to. There is a lot happening in this book with her mother showing up, a death, and poison pen letters being sent to residents. I enjoy the characters in this series and the paranormal aspects of it. I was kept guessing until the end. This was an entertaining read.
Thank you to the author, Kensington Publishing, and NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The Witch is Back is the sixth book in the Witch Way Librarian mystery series.
Josie way is a librarian and a witch. Her mother, Nora, comes to visit with little notice.
A couple of other strangers are also spotted in town. Poison Pen letters start to arrive among town inhabitants. Once the distrust reaches a boiling point, Josie is asked to find the letter writer.
This plot point along with a murder and stranger in town taking interest in her mother keeps Josie busy.
I like the added dimension gained in the story through the interactions between Nora and Josie. The reader learns of an aunt that no one in the family talks about and whose magic doesn’t sound innocuous. Josie has felt something strange for several months and there seems there may be magical danger on the horizon.
I knew who wrote the poison pen letters long before the issue was resolved in the book.
I enjoyed reading The Witch is Back and hope that there is a happy ending ahead in book 7.
Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington for the opportunity to read this book.
This is Witch Way Librarian Series release Six. I have enjoyed the entire series as a delightful paranormal cozy with great characters. Thank you to Net Galley , the publisher and to the author for the opportunity for review. My review opinions are my own.
Our protaganist Josie is a librarian with special powers. She is able to hear books calling to her and able to pair books with those in need of them. She works and lives in a unique library that she has revitilized for the small town. She is well liked and has many friends. In this next installment the mystery begins at a estate sale with her Mother. Josie hears the books crying out to solve a mystery of the owners death. Along with a secondary mystery of mean letters being sent to various people in town. Josie is charged with solving both mysteries then a murder occurs. With her particular expertise she is on the case and with the assistance of her books is solving the mysteries and the murder.
I love the addtion of humor into this series and her cat Rodney is a delight. I love the supporting characters that are in this series and the charming small town in Oregon the author created. The writing flows perfectly and the sleuth was well crafted to the series. I enjoy this wonderful series and look forward to the next in series.
In book 6 of the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries Series, the residents of Wilfred, Oregon have been receiving poison pen letters, threatening the citizens to pay up or their less than neighborly transgressions will be aired. Josie is tasked to look into the matter, and she gets her mom, who is visiting, to assist her. The dead body of one of the reverend's sons is found at the base of the cliff, and Josie has to determine whether or not the two things are linked. Josie also decides it is finally time to confess to Sheriff Sam that she is a witch, and hope that their relationship can withstand the truth.
This book was one of my favorites out of this series. There were so many moving parts, and I really enjoyed getting to know Josie's mom. I loved the way she went about telling Sam she was a witch, and have my fingers crossed that he will be accepting of it. This was a fun, quick read perfect for anyone who loves cozy witchy mysteries.
This is the first in the "Witch Way Librarian" series. I nabbed this from Netgalley in exchange for a review. Saw it among the Kennsington offerings and thought I'd try a few other books than what i usually read of theirs.
I've read other books including magic. The magic, such as the writings of Gibson of The Shadow, hardly a whisper of any enchantment is presented. Stuff happens as the narrative unveils with enchanting writing more magical than what is presented.
Author Sanders should take in some Gibson or other writers of magic from a hundred plus years ago. Sanders is heavy handed with the magic she writes and I came away with a clunky narrative trying to hard. Such as the main character doing same to convince her boy friend of her abilities.
This is labeled by many as a "Cozy mystery'. Seems that more subtle approach to a key element of the book would make the book more "Cozy".
Oddly, magic is a background element and the main characters are off seeking who wrote letters and killed some one. This is also handled heavy handed and it was pretty obvious the effort of who Sanders wanted readers to believe the bad guy. That had me knowing who the bad guy really was and why. Makes me crazy to figure that out mid-way through book!
A little lighter hand and a strong editor slicing a third of the book away woulda made this a much better. Still, it readable and fine for time passing.
I do wonder if my view would be different if I had ready the other 5 books. In recent years I made my way through the Lillian Jackson Braun 'Quill and Koko' series. I didn't care for the first books. As i read through the series, i was concerned my review were a little too cozy in that I was overly familiar with the characters. The big thing with Braun was her excellent ability to write of cats.
Bottom line: i recommend this book. 5 out of 5 points.
The Witch is Back by Angela M. Sanders brings magic, small-town drama, suspense, and death to the sixth and latest book in the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries series set in fictional Wilfred, Oregon. Librarian Josie Way is a relatively novice witch who gets energy, warnings, and helpful hints from books. When her mother suddenly calls from the airport from Josie to pick her up, it only the beginning of an eventful week. Soon poison pen letters are being delivered to the small town’s residents.
Hoping to distract her mother, Josie takes her to an estate sale, where the recently passed Reverend Clarence Duffy lived. Inside the house, Josie hears warnings from the boxed books that have been sold. Tasked with finding the author of the disturbing letters, Josie starts her investigation, but soon, a dead body is found at the bottom of a cliff. Was it an accident or murder?
Of course, things don’t always go smoothly. With the letters unsettling the town’s residents, friendships start to crumble and everyone tends to look at everyone else with suspicion.
Josie has a strong sense of family and community. She loves books and feels compelled to seek justice. The secondary characters were a mixed lot of the unusual as well as ever-day folks that you could meet in any small town. While their depth varied, it felt adequate for their roles in this story. Of the secondary characters, Rodney the cat stole the show.
This was a fun, relaxing, and entertaining read that I did not want to put down. The writing style is warm and friendly and the world building was well done. I was able to vividly see the picturesque library, the town, and the people of Wilford. I also enjoyed the way the historical aspects of the town, as well as some romance, were woven seamlessly into the story. Multiple crimes and danger elevate the suspense level. However, the poison pen author was a little too easy to discern. My only other quibbles are that there are a couple of cliffhangers that I hoped would be resolved in this novel.
Overall, this was a story that quickly drew me into Josie’s world. It was filled with the challenges of suspicions, secrets, a death, ominous feelings, a wildfire, and more. I recommend the Witch Way Librarian Mysteries series to those who enjoy the genre. If you share Josie’s and my love of books and libraries, this may be the next book for you. I’m a fan of the series and am looking forward to reading the next book.
