love love loveee! i never knew i would want to read about racing but boy was i wrong. i ate this up and you will too!
I LOVE a rival's to lovers story and Offtrack did not disappoint. Offtrack was my first book by Esha Patel and I enjoyed every second of the story. The romance between Miguel and rookie F1 driver Diana was the perfect slow burn. I didn't know much about F1 racing before this story, but I not only learned of Miguel and Diana's love story, but I learned about the sport as well.
Unfortunately the writing style made the book really hard to read and I didn't end up enjoying it like I think I would if it was a different writing style.
This was a no. I gave it two stars for the effort of writing a researched F1 book but this was just so flat. The characters were boring and had no chemistry. The romance was not worth it. MINOR SPOILER the MMC was engaged for about half the book. I cannot in good faith recommend it.
Thank you so much to Harper 360, Esha and Netgalley for the opportunity to review this title. I am leaving my review honestly and voluntarily.
This book was kind of difficult to rate because there are certain things that were done well and others that weren't. The F1 parts were spot on. I'm not a huge fan of racing but I enjoy it every now and again and can appreciate it when it's in books. The romance, however, was not what I wanted out of the story. It just fell flat and the characters didn't connect in a way that made sense. it might have made a better fiction about racing with small aspects of romance sprinkled in.
I’m going to start off by saying I have never watched F1, so some of the terms and phrases I didn’t understand. However, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt Diyana portrayed how women in male dominated fields experience things and are treated lesser than their male peers pretty accurately. To see her overcome so much adversity and still give it her all was inspiring. I also liked the way she interacted with other characters in the story. And the ending was perfect!
I do love F1 romances and I think the F1 aspect was very well done. The writing was hard to read and slowed the pace of the book. I didn’t really enjoy the character development or lack there of. The relationship seemed weak and dialogue was awkward.
The main reason why this book got a rating higher than
2 star was mainly because of my love for F1 (yes, im
biased). I kind of had high expectations cuz there aren't
many F1 books out there. Definitely felt like smacking
my head at times, but honestly, it was an okay read
overall. This book wasn't my cup of tea, but hopefully, it
finds a better audience, and they like it the way I never
got the chance to.
reading and formula 1 are my two favorite things so as soon as i heard about this one i knew i had to read it. i loved every second of it. had me kicking my feet, giggling, screaming, feeling all the feels.
Listen… if there’s one thing I love almost as equally as hockey romance books in this world — it’s F1 romance books. I’m a huge Formula One fan and it’s one of my special interests. So whenever I see an F1-centric book, I’m quick to jump at the chance to read it. I was beyond excited when I read the premise of this book. It sounded like everything I would be interested in. A rookie driver who is a woman of colour becoming involved with another driver who comes from a racing family with big shoes to fill? Sign me up.
Unfortunately, the romance aspect took a backseat in this one. There was zero chemistry between the two and overall any ‘romance’ between them felt a bit awkward and forced. On top of that, the MMC being engaged to someone else for a good portion of the book made it difficult for me to commit to the romance. This book was supposed to be about the empowerment of women and yet the fiance is treated like an object and disappears halfway through the book.
Bouncing off of the aspect of female empowerment, the fact that Diana for a moment thought about risking her chance at the championship for a man had me scoffing. Like girl… really? You feel guilty about overtaking drivers who are nice to you? Maybe if you can’t separate your career from your life off track… this might not be the career for you.
I also wasn’t a huge fan of the dual POVs in this book. Half the time the switch between POVs felt really unnecessary as they were just summarizing the same thing over again. This rehashing often caused me to skim through certain portions because it felt like a waste of my time to read.
One thing I did happen to enjoy about the book was the actual racing aspect. It’s clear that the author really enjoys Formula One and that passion shines through in those bits of her writing.
Overall, this felt like a y/n x Carlos Sainz fanfic that I would find on Tumblr. Nothing special that will stick with me.
2 stars.
I DNF'd at 50%. I kept trying and just could not continue.
The Formula 1 aspects of this story? Incredible. Descriptive. Well done in all aspects.
The writing in general? Not for me. I skimmed more than I read because I just couldn't handle it. There was no flow, the pacing was scattered at best, and it just was not engaging on any level.
The characters fell completely flat. I felt nothing towards any of the characters, and especially Diana and Miguel? I didn't even care what POV it was - there was just no connection at all.
The romance was not there, at all.... and to go from a glance to being in bed together just doesn't make for any attraction or chemistry.
Thank you to NetGalley for this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
i recently read an f1 romance book and that was what created my interest in this book. i found the f1 part of this story to be really fun and definitely hit the mark for being a sports romance. unfortunately when it came to liking these characters and their romance, it was not the same feeling. i didn't feel the chemistry between Diana and Miguel. their romance was definitely secondary, but it wasn't very enjoyable. i also felt the multiple povs was at times hard to follow. overall, the writing was alright and i didn't love the characters. so this was a tough one for me.
2.5🌟
I liked the idea for this book. The story had potential but it just wasn't executed well. It follows an F1 racing season and what happens when one of the race teams brings in the first woman driver to the circuit. The pacing in the book seemed off, where it sometimes was a slog to get through. The characters weren't fully developed to the point that they and the relationships fell flat. I felt nothing towards the characters or relationships built. The race scenes were well done, but any scene where the characters were out of their cars just didn't flow.
Thank you NetGalley and Harper 360 for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
F1 Romance
Rivals to lovers
First woman in F1
He's champion F1 racer
Slow burn
Found family
He falls hard
This one is definitely a F1 romance for the F1 lovers. It was very accurate and detailed with the the F1 racing world.
For me this would have worked so much more as a story of friendship. The romance just didn't work. Miguel was very flat to me. I didn't feel the connection and the romance from these two.
Thank you netgalley for this ARC.
I loved the book as a sports romance and Formula racing enthusiast. Throughout the story, Miguel and Diana's passion and drive for the sport are clear. Given the various global locations, dangers of the sport, and the unique level of concentration required for driving, I appreciate the originality that Formula One added to the plot. The sports elements seemed authentic, and it appears that Patel did research to make the story seem believable and interesting.
Thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for e-arc.
I really wanted to love this book but I ended up not finishing it. I picked it up and put it down multiple times and I just could not get into the story.
3.5⭐, 2🌶️
Sooo this book had its strengths and its weaknesses for me. t wasn't a book I loved, but I'm choosing to focus on the positive!
Pro? LOVED the F1 drama! All the misogyny grossness is unfortunately accurate (and I can totally cast real life drivers/ principals as those guys - barf) I loved the diversity of the characters and how much of the drama is so realistic. This was a book I'm so glad I am an F1 fan when I read it or I dont think I would have been as invested and connected.
Con? I just didnt feel the love. I felt the friendship form for Diana and Miguel, but thats about it. There was one spicy scene that really didn't contribute to the story and UGH. With two drivers on the grid, I was excited for this book, but just, didnt fall in love with them (and honestly I never got much character connection with Miguel ever)
Thank you Netgalley and Harper 360/ Avon Books UK for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this. I loved this f1 spree were having right now in books and this one fits in so well.
3.5
I LOVE a good formula 1 romance so when I got approved for this book, I was so pumped. Nothing like a good enemies to lovers to get the reader sucked in. Nothing like a good plot!! Esha knew what they were doing for this book! The plot was chefs kiss and I could not say anything bad about this book.
Overall 3 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley, Avon, and Esha Patel for allowing me access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review. As a big F1 fan, I was really looking forward to reading this book and I was left slightly disappointed. While the Formula 1 portions were great and spot on, I felt like the romance was definitely lacking. It felt like an afterthought to the formula 1 action throughout the book. The 'tension' was dragged out and angsty, then all of a sudden one spicy look and they were sleeping together. Overall, it felt like a 3 rating to me. I liked it and found it enjoyable enough which puts it at the 3 but it didn't do anything else for me to rate it higher.
