You can't get more Gothic than this.
Elegy sees no future for herself. Her father has virtually locked her away in a mansion her entire life with very little knowledge of the outside world. She even wears hand me downs from long dead women.
Even when she makes friends with two outsider rich brats called Floss and Hugo, nothing changes for her. Elegys' family have a huge secret. They've resurrected 13 spirits from the dead and only Elegys' bloodline can control them.
It's predictably a dark novel, not all of the spirits are adults and Elegys' father is cruel and abusive, her stepmother doesn't really care.
I like how it takes you along on a nice, easy ride where everything's going well, then it suddenly makes you sit up and take notice.
I did really enjoy this book, but it's not the sort that grips me and makes me desperate to find out what happens next.

The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall follows Elegy Thorne, who is cursed to remain bound to her ancestral home, tasked with keeping her family's restless spirits pacified. It’s a gothic story full of duty, longing, and Elegy’s fight for freedom. With a richly atmospheric setting and a haunting tone, it's a good pick fall pick and picks up after the beginning.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
Elegy is trapped. She lives in Thorne Hall, a mansion that has been in her family for generations. However, instead of collecting art, her family collects ghosts. Elegy is bound to the house, and its spirits, because upon her father's death, she will take control of the 14 spirits in residence...that is, unless she can find a way to break the curse. Oh, and there's this guy...
I enjoyed this book. It's a great spooky season read. I will say there were parts that were a little slow, but overall, I liked this one!

This was a fun read! I enjoyed the atmosphere and the descriptions of the manor. I didn't completely connect with the characters but other than that I had a great time reading this one!

Me gustó.

The Spirit Collection was a good book that's perfect for spooky season. While it did take me some tome to get into this book and to have a clear understanding of all of the characters, it was an enjoyable book once I did.

"The Spirit Collection" by J. Ann Thomas is a captivating and well-crafted novel that seamlessly blends elements of mystery and the supernatural. Thomas's vivid descriptions and engaging plot keep readers hooked from start to finish. The characters are well-developed, and the storyline offers unexpected twists that make it hard to put down. It's a perfect read for those who enjoy a thrilling tale with a touch of the mystical. Highly recommended!

It took some time for me to get into this book, but I ended up really enjoying it. There were a lot of characters I produced early on and it was a little confusing as to who was alive and who was not. Once I was able to keep most of them straight, the story was much easier to follow and get into. The romance was sweet and easy to get behind. It had a unique storyline and concept and I enjoyed some of the side character arcs (Fletcher) alongside the main characters. I wish we saw a little more of Floss because I feel like she had one heck of a personality, but overall I would definitely recommend.

OMG, where do I even start with this book? It’s, like, totally captivating! The gothic vibes are next level, and the atmosphere just drips with mystery and intrigue. The setting is so beautifully described that I could practically feel the chill in the air. I was totally swept away by the rich imagery and haunting elegance of the storyline. The characters are well-developed, and their connections are, like, so intense and real! I couldn't help but get emotionally invested in their journeys.
If you’re, like, into dark romance and a sprinkle of the supernatural, you have to check this out! Seriously, grab your favorite cozy blanket, pour yourself a pumpkin spice latte, and get ready for an enchanting ride that’s gonna keep you up all night! You won't wanna miss this magical journey!
A huge thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion!

The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall by J. Ann Thomas is a captivating and atmospheric read. Although the beginning is slow, it is worth sticking with until the end. Thomas delivers a spellbinding journey that will linger with you long after the last page.

Very slow start where I almost DNF’d but I’m so glad I kept on going because it was definitely worth it!!

Thank you to Alcove Press and NetGalley for the DRC!
The story follows young Elegy Thorne who is having to shoulder her family's curse which keeps her bound to her family home as well as the spirits who reside there. Events, however, bring about some fresh blood into Elegy's life so to speak and a chance for her have something other than the lot she was born into.
My main issue with this story was that the beginning felt incredibly slow. It took me a lot of pushing to keep going but soon the book takes off and I found myself fairly invested in Elegy's story and what the outcome would be.

The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall
By: J. Ann Thomas
Elegy Thorne is a sheltered young woman living with a terrible curse. A curse that not only tethers her to her family home but binds her a menagerie of spirits.
She wants nothing more than part of the outside world and live her own life, but is trapped in a house the time has forgotten.
This is a slow starter but worth sticking with, the slow setup is really needed to get you invested in Elegy's unique situation. Once all the ground work was laid, I couldn't put the book down
The author blends mystery, romance, and suspense together in a way that doesn't feel forced. Everything works within the world She has created and is a joy to read.

I really loved this story! I felt very attached the to main characters & was happy with how everything turned out. Highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

Let me start by saying this book would have been perfect for right now or october. I truly dont understand why it would be released in february but not my call obviously.
I always love a haunted house story and a house that has collected so many souls is bound to be a fun one. I hated that she had to choose between love and upholding her family legacy. Por que no los dos. Either way it was a fun book I liked the romance intertwined with ghosts and lore. It kind of gave ghosts (the tv show) vibes.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing an eARC of this story, this is my objective review. My goodness but I enjoyed this book! Elegy Thorne is 25 years old and lives firmly under the thumb of her angry and ailing father. She is sworn to keep the family's "Spirit Collection" both a secret and neutralized, and she lives a weary half-life in what remains of the once-majestic and wildly out-dated Thorne Hall. Hope arrives in the form of the handsome and charming Atticus Hart, son of their trusted contractor. Love quickly follows, but will the family spirits allow Elegy to get her happily ever after? A compelling and lively read, this is a sad story but also hopeful. Elegy has such an awful life, bound by duty created generations before she was born. She is so wistful, it hurts my heart. It's hard not to feel for her, since she has not-so-willingly given up any choices in her life that could make her happy. The family ghosts are a mix of friendly and malevolent, all trapped in the house as much as Elegy is. There is a formal writing style used that fits the somber mood of the story. Elegy also speaks and dresses formally, immersed in vestiges of previous lives that are not hers. This is a heavily gothic and very spooky read, with twists and turns that will keep your attention to the very end. The story is set in New England but it's very easy to picture it taking place in the wild English countryside instead. I give this satisfying story 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars! Publishes 2-11-25.

I thought this story sounded kind of interesting and it seriously exceeded my expectations. The Spirit Collection of Thorne Hall is a unique and intriguing ghost story with gothic vibes that somehow felt both incredibly creepy but also kind of cosy. I loved how the story built slowly, but with many little twists and complications that ultimately tied up well in an unexpected and satisfying conclusion.
I really loved how weird Elegy was, and this wasn't all revealed straight away. And how throughout the story, even though you know it is set in contempory times, it never feels totally clea. All that really added to the sense of the uncanny.
I loved the friendships, and thought her step-mother was a fantastic and complicated character. I also ended up liking the romance and Atticus as a character, but it started very abruptly, I would have preferred it to build more slowly rather than just insta-love.
Overall the story is charmingly haunting, with a sinister yet ultimately hopeful undercurrent. Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys ghost stories.

Such a fun read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.

Elegy Thorne has spent her whole life preparing the inherit the collection of ghosts at Thorne Hall. With her father ill and nearing death and someone new entering her life she must decide between duty to her family or freedom. I really liked this one! Such a great gothic spooky book for fall/Halloween! It did start out slowly but didn’t fail to pull me in. The ghosts range from cozy to creepy scary. I would’ve liked more on her relationships with the ghosts but it may have been just enough .. the ones meant to tug at your heart do just that. The romance was very sweet and didn’t feel forced. And the epilogue was perfection! It gives us exactly what we need in the end.

To start, I really liked the atmosphere and the set up of this book. It reminded me a lot of haunted mansion and it was very gothic and spooky. I loved the concept of the ghosts haunting the house and the family being caretakers of these ghosts. However, this is where things started going downhill for me. I found it to be a little boring and it dragged on at a lot of points. I think the story had some great bones but execution lacked. I think that the vibes are great and I think a lot of people will enjoy this book, it just wasn't for me.
