Stunning! I read the book and was enraptured to se there was an audiobook and I was not disappointed! A fantastic performance and a perfect rendering of this fantastic story!

I absolutely loved this book. It is darkly haunting and so beautifully written. It was like falling into a whole other world. I hope that there is more from Estella to come. 5 big fat stars from me!

Lovely prose. Well narrated. Scattered and directionless story that falls into the 'in order to make the female MC string I must tear down the male characters trope' which I hate and have very little patienve with. Very noticeable that a lot of people who love this have never read Great Expectations. A neutral 3 stars - consider it unrated.

I absolutely loved reading Estella's Revenge earlier this year and Barbara kindly sent me the NetGalley link to listen to the audiobook. What a joy that was! The narrator, Rosie Ackerman, is positively brilliant! Her amazing performance really brought the book to life. The dialects and accents were on point. I was captivated throughout its entirety.
Below is my book review from when I first read this fantastic novel.
"You know Miss Havisham. The world's most famous jilted bride. This is her daughter's story."
From the very first page, I knew I was going to love this book, I knew it was going to be one of those books I could spend a long time with, and I knew it was going to be one of those books I could read again and again.
Estella's Revenge is not a retelling of Great Expectations. This book is all through Estella's eyes. It is told over two timelines and is beautifully written. It has gothic, mysterious, and atmospheric vibes and everything was so easy to picture. Ms Havelocke is a very talented author indeed.
This book was such a pleasure to read and I didn't want it to end. I had pre-ordered the ebook but I just had to get a NetGalley copy as I was so eager to read this. When the hardback is released I will treat myself to a copy, and that copy of Estella's Revenge will become a book I will read yearly, I loved it that much!
AND! I was so pleased (and surprised) to read that Estella's story carries on! I'm very excited to read the next installment!
A big thank you to Barbara Havelocke, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an eALC of Estella's Revenge. It's out now.

It was the beautiful cover that first drew me to this book and although gothic novels aren’t my usual choice of genre, this book totally lived up to my expectations from the cover and I was enthralled by Estella’s story from the first chapter. The book moved along at a good pace and it was well written with two timelines and compelling characters. I was taken by surprise towards the end when the story totally changed the direction I thought it was taking and I’m hoping this means the author is writing more about Estella’s life.
I thought the narrator did an excellent job and I enjoyed listening to this book.
I was grateful to receive an audiobook ARC via NetGalley and Dreamscape Media.

Estella's Revenge tells the story of Estella Havisham from Great Expectations. The story is told through alternating timelines. The present follows Estella through her engagement and wedding to Bentley Drummle and her conflicts with him. The past chapters focus on her upbringing in Satis House and mistreatment by the Pocket family, as well as her time at finishing school in Paris. All of the characters you know and love from Great Expectations make an appearances in this novel, which is too be expected.
I must admit that I read Great Expectations most of the way through when I was in high school, so I'm no expert on the story. That being said, I found Estella's side of the tale to be very interesting to listen to. The story being told from her perspective brings a lot of depth to her character and it helps the reader to better understand her motivations as well as Miss Havisham's. It also fills the reader in on what her life was like when Pip wasn't around to tell the story. My main complaint with the audiobook was that I just didn't like the narrator. The volume could oscillate quite a bit, with some whispered parts being difficult to hear and other parts being so shrill they almost made my head hurt. The narration got better as the book went on and Estella grew up, so there was that at least. This will be good for fans of Great Expectations who maybe want to get a different perspective on the book, as well as those who enjoy historical fiction or unlikable narrators.

I hadn't read Great Expectations, and on balance I think I would have benefitted from doing that, just so I could add more understanding of the characters.
I had this on audiobook, and I found the narrator to be a little shrill and difficult to listen to. I think the plot was good though so I think I would have preferred to read it rather than listen to.

Great Expectations was one of my favourite Dicken’s classics and I really enjoyed listening to the imagined stories of Estella and Miss Havisham. The audiobook is great - the actor really brings the story to life, not only with her interpretation of Estella but also all the other characters. There’s plenty of rich, evocative description, particularly of the world and fashions, and lots of odious characters. Women’s lives in the 19th century have a lot to be sad and angry about. They were so often at the mercy of circumstances and awful men. But Estella’s way of coping does leave you uplifted in a grim sort of way.

I absolutely loved the narration and the whole setting. I was a little lost with the two perspectives but that is on me. This is beautiful and sad like an old fairy tale (you know the original ones). It definitely had me feeling things.

It was a bit confusing for me at first, but it got better once I realized it was based on characters from Dicken's novel "Great Expectations". I read a little synopsis and felt like I understood this book a lot better. My rating is a 3.5 rounded up.
I listened to the audiobook, and I'll say that I enjoyed it (the cadence, the emotion, and the different tones for different characters) but the narrator has a tendency to whisper some words for emotional purposes; and it made it a bit hard to understand at times (I'd have to go back and listen again).
The story itself is interesting, Estella goes through a lot to become a better person and her story is not an easy one. Listening to the awful things Bentley (her husband) did to her, made me so mad. Her mother, extremely unlikeable at first, has her redemption by the end of the book; which I was glad about. The last few conversations between Estella and her mother bring their relationship to a better light, and I quite enjoyed that.
I was sad that, romantically, Estella didn't end up the way I thought she would; but still, the book is well written, the characters are diverse and the plot is good.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for the chance to listen to this audiobook!

I received a copy of this title from the publisher, but all opinions expressed are my own. I listened to Estella's Revenge and found the narrator added to my enjoyment of the title. I found this a very compelling listen, but because of the foreshadowing of some of the events at the very beginning of the book, I was also dreading reaching certain moments as I knew what was coming. The book alternates between Estella's childhood and the current day. In the current time, she's recently married and is involved in what she believes will be a partnership but that the marriage will not be consummated. In the past, we learn about her isolated childhood where her adoptive mother, Miss Haversham (of Great Expectations fame) raises her to be a tool of revenge against men who she hates after she was stood up as a younger woman on her wedding day, which is where her home remains frozen. Estella is a lonely child and comes to decide she isn't capable of love which impacts all of her future decisions leading to the current day. Certainly not a happy read, I enjoyed it and was glad I gave it a try.

Estella‘s Revenge by Barbara Havelocke and narrated by Rosie Ackerman, is about the ward of miss Havisham the jilted bride from Charles dickens great expectations. When starting to listen to the audiobook I was thrilled to hear Barbara Havelock’s great grasp on the spirit of the book and gave an awesome Dickensian bent to the story The first 70% of the book was awesome but I found the ending to be ambiguous but realize it’s paving the way for future books that I do think I would be happy to read. I was happy to see Pipp in the book although he still a doormat he is also adorable. The book switches between her current day married to the pompous duke, to her growing up at the beer foundry with Miss Havisham. If future books have half the snark the great quirky characters and crazy situations I will definitely be down to read it if you love Charles dickens then you will probably enjoy this book as much as I did the audio narration couldn’t have been better I love Rosie Ackerman‘s narration and she never seems to disappoint.#NetGalley,#DreamscapeMedia #BarbaraHavelocke, #RosieAckerman, #CharlesDickens, #estellasRevenge,

Spooky in the best way possible. Never been much on historical, but I love a good gothic anything. This one fit the bill! It was a great read and perfect for a weekend in!

I really thought I had read the Great Expectations in high school - turns out I had not! That didn’t stop me though for enjoying this book.
Estella has been molded by her adopted mother to hate and be cruel to men and sometimes women. When she is cruel to people who deserve it (her cousins), I can’t really feel bad; however when she turns her cruelty towards Pip, I really wanted to write her off but I couldn’t. Perhaps better than any author I’ve seen before, Havelocke has created a backstory in Estella of someone that is mean and cruel but as a reader, I just couldn’t dislike her because by that point, the reader has witnessed the abuse she has suffered. Instead of hating her, I found myself wanting to give her a hug.
The book is told in “Then” and “Now” chapters which at first felt a little slow but as the book progressed, it sets up for a quite satisfying line up of cause and effect.
Thank you NetGalley for this advanced reader copy of the audiobook! I found the narrator easy to follow and her voice very fitting for educated and posh Estella.

Estella's Revenge, by Barbara Havelocke is an absolute treat for lovers of historical fiction and 1900 century literature. This book deserves a place on the shelve next to Great Expectations. The narrator did a stellar job bring this book to life.

I have often wondered at the. end of a novel, “But then what happened?”
Estella’s Revenge is a very good stand alone novel, but adding Miss Havisham in the mix is pure delight in this gothic story. Estella is a victim of her Age, and I admire her spunk and creativity. I couldn’t help but get emotionally involved, partly due to the combination of Havelocks writing and the spirited narration by Rosie Ackerman. I listened to this audio recording in one 24 hour session. It’s just that good. It’s riveting and ingenious and a near perfect example of a dark 19th century novel.
Thanks to Dreamscape Media for the complimentary copy this highly entertaining audiobook..
