I am thankful to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. ( have read many contemporary novels that featured abortion as a theme or an event in a character's life, but I didn't know too much about the history of abortion, either politically or in literature, so it was interesting to me to read so many older texts. I was touched the most by the poems by Gwendolyn Brooks and Lucille Clifton, though there were other stories and narratives that I became invested in, and I wish some of the excerpts had been longer.. And although the library I work for may not be able to purchase a copy of the book when it comes out, I myself will be buying one.
I was a little disappointed that some of the excerpts were so short. I was pleased that both fiction and nonfiction pieces were included. I was sorry that there weren't any examples that were published earlier than 1705, but I was interested in the fact that this issue goes so far back. I enjoyed the poetry more than anything else.
