Beautiful and lyrical - a wonderful poetry collection that every woman should read! This was my first Amanda Lovelace poetry book, and I would recommend anyone struggling to take a couple minutes of peace to read and rediscover yourself bit by bit.
This is a poetry collection that shines a light on the feelings and emotions of a woman who feels lost and through hard work, finds her way back to the light. Some of these poems are relatable, some empowering, and many are both. The simplicity of the poems belies the power that they hold, because sometimes, all you need is for someone to tell you this in an easy language and not pepper them with heavy words. Which is a reason why this collection works. Although I do also feel like I would have loved more - both in number and length of the poems.
But it is a lovely read overall.
What a beautiful book of poetry, so uplifting and empowering. I felt every single poem from different aspects and stages of my life
This was a beautiful poetry collection. I can tell how much of the author's heart and soul went into this. All the poems truly touched my heart Amanda Lovelace is definitely a poet I would recommend to anyone wanting to get into poetry. Her poems are accessible and beautiful and a wonderful launching off point for more poetry reading.
she followed the moon back to herself by Amanda Lovelace is like taking a gentle, late-night walk through someone’s heartache, healing, and everything in between. Each poem feels like a little piece of moonlight, guiding you through loss, resilience, and rediscovery. Lovelace has this magical way of turning the messy parts of life into something that glows. It’s honest, hopeful, and totally inspiring.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of she followed the moon back to herself by Amanda Lovelace. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Amanda Lovelace is a great poet and always look forward to reading there work. Many of these poems are super on the nose and really nice to see written out and know that someone else has those thoughts/feelings. I really look forward to whatever work they release next.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers to provide an arc for an honest review.
Lovelace is also one of my to go/must buy everything they write authors. I love poetry and these poems always speak to my soul. I loved the illustrations in this one. The papers between poems almost felt like wallpaper and I loved it.
Two poems really resonated with me:
1. Being done with toxic people who resist their own butterfly transformations
2. The Maiden, Mother, Crone poem
I loved each of these for different reasons, but if you pick up this poetry collection just for those 2 poems, I promise you that it will be a worthwhile investment.
If you need some powerful, mindful poetry -> this is for you!
What I love most about poetry: being able to read it in bite-sized chunks. A poem a day feeds the soul.
Rating: 4.25
A hopeful, beautiful collection full of light and love. I felt hopeful and less alone reading each piece and bookmarked so many pages as new favourites.
Unlike some of Lovelace’s other collections, this one seemed more hopeful. The light at the end of a dark and powerful tunnel.
I think this is a great collection to pick up when you are struggling and need a pick-me-up. Something to remind you, you are strong and worthy.
It’s beautiful to see the growth between Amanda Lovelace’s first collections to this most recent publication.
Amanda Lovelace's tenth poetry collection, She Followed the Moon Back to Herself, felt much like the majority of her previous collections, with only a few poems standing out. It's not up for debate that Lovelace writes in a modern poetic style; however, it lacks the sharp and blunt language that comes with the contemporary style. For a reader unfamiliar with poetry outside of what they read in high school, I could see this collection as an easy way to enter the world of poetry; however, for those who are avid readers of the genre, I would recommend skipping this one.
She followed the moon back to herself is the first collection of poetry I’ve read by Amanda Lovelace. I found it clever how each poem’s title is the last line of each poem, and each poem flows on from the previous. While I enjoyed this collection, and I can see how it could be very personal, I would have liked for the poems to go a bit deeper considering all the heavy topics.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review this
This was unmemorable. Horribly so. Everyone sounds like this.
This was not my favorite poetry collection from this author or in general. This felt very surface level and very "tumblr"-esque which was disappointing since the author made a note to say that this was their return to poetry regarding their personal life and experiences. I don't feel like I gained any insight into the author based on anything that I read and this just felt like some platitudes that you would find on some new age greeting cards instead of well crafted poems.
By this point I feel like whenever I see a book by Amanda Lovelace I have to read it! Lovelace’s poems always strive to reflect upon real life struggles and moments anyone could relate with. Not every single poem resonates with you, but when it does you feel seen! And hopefully, by the time you turn the last page of she followed the moon back to herself, you feel empowered!

A good portion of these poems really resonated with me. I loved this poetry collection by Amanda Lovelace and would love a physical copy to put with my other Amanda Lovelace book trophies! This one looks like it is stunning in person.
I love the pictures and the page separation. The pink cover was an amazing choice! Everything was just so well done in my opinion.
I loved everything about it! Now I just need the physical copy.
PS- I think I would LOVE to hear Amanda narrate all of her books but especially this one into an audiobook! Please! Sign me up for that list too. <3
I liked this collection, but I didn’t relate to it as I’ve done to other work from this author. I will still keep reading everything Lovelace writes!
Such an amazing read! Amanda really showed her heart in her words! I felt so much love and light while I read. Her words are so healing.
As always, another wonderful collection of poetry from Amanda Lovelace. I can’t say much else about it, I can always find myself in at least one of the poems.
Lovelace is unapologetically herself, raw, and real in every poem.
There are several triggers and a thoughtful warning at the beginning of the collection.
Fans of Amanda Lovelace's poetry will feel right at home in this, her tenth collection, even though it veers away from her well-known use of fairytale tropes and motifs. This is a more personal collection in which she explores her journey towards resilience, self-discovery, and exuberant unapologetic, even defiant, self-acceptance. This positive message is packaged into small, easily-digestible poems. These are not high-brow, literary, or intellectual poems. Rather they are readily relatable especially for women like the poet, who have dealt with some stuff (not necessarily the same stuff) and are now climbing out of whatever hole they were in towards a new version of themselves. This collection would also be perfect for anybody who is poetry-phobic but still poetry-curious since it is very accessible. The collection is easy to dip in and out of; the poems themselves provide perfect pep talks and positive inspirational pick-me-ups. Many thanks to @netgalley and @andrewsmcmeel for the eArc.
She Followed the Moon Back to Herself is a poetry collection by Amanda Lovelace.
The content of this collection is about learning how to accept and love oneself. Her poems are uplifting, encouraging, and it shows understanding on a deeper, more complicated level.
Amanda Lovelace’s ability to create a shared connection and understanding for readers is one of her gifts. The artwork in the book are great.
I had caught up with all of my ARCs, requested a toooon more, and proceeded to avoid them. Oops. Here's Amanda Lovelace's "she followed the moon back to herself."
["the tenth poetry collection from amanda lovelace deviates from the well-worn path of fairy tales & myths, instead bringing readers face to face with the person behind the poems that have made her beloved.
from bestselling poetess amanda lovelace comes she followed the moon back to herself, an autobiographical standalone poetry collection that follows a woman who—through heartbreak, bottles of rosé, & the general messiness of life—felt like she completely lost who she was. each bitesize poem shines a light on where she’s been & how she’s managed to overcome it all, offering a dose of hope & moondust to all who join her on the journey back to herself."]
I wasn't entirely sure about Amanda's poetry when I read her first published collection, but she quickly grew and matured as a poet. I think my favorite collection of her was "the witch doesn't burn in this one." It was BEAUTIFUL (definitely recommend reading that one).
This one didn't disappoint. At. All.
This collection was powerful as fuck. It was strong and embraced positivity and change. There were some moments of sadness and past struggles, but this book was more about the phoenix rising out of the ashes, ready to take on the world again.
