Cheney goes out of her way to place her view of government upon Madison but does so unconvincingly. Madison was no neoconservative looking for war wherever he could find it.
Cheney as done an admirable job of taking Madison out of the scholarly biographies and made him into a three-dimensional person. If you are a scholar, this isn't the book for you, but for the reader who saw "Hamilton" and wants to know more about the founding fathers this is a good introduction.
A wonderful book and a look into the life of James Madison, in more than just writing the Federalist papers, and the Constitution. I had also forgotten that he was Sectary of State when Jefferson was President and that he handle the Louisiana Purchase after it was bought from France. I also did not know that he was the President during the war of 1812 our first war after the Constitution. He also severed from epilepsy and really looked out for individual liberties. There are so many other things inside of this wonderful book that it is very much worth the read. An excellent book about our fourth President.
