The new translation of End of the World and Hard-Boiled Wonderland is excellent and I prefer it to the original. Although this novel is not my favorite by Mr. Murakami, it is still a stellar read and useful precursor to his newest novel, The City and Its Uncertain Walls.

A new translation of a classic Murakami.
Because I was unfamiliar with the original, I was excited to give this book a try. As it is known to be, it's a difficult read.
Murakami has two totally different stories (as delineated in the title with "and") that eventually tie together in a unique way. There is a story of Bacall and Dylan as well as strange criminal like individuals. It's surreal and feverish as it twirls philosophical ideas about identity and the subconciousness.
A jewel of a book, but likely a Murakami fan purchase rather then your first Haruki story.
