Audiobook review.
Not had an audiobook this gripping in such a long time!
Only started it yesterday and I've just finished.
Couldn't stop listening as I was desperate to see how the events played out.
There is so much drama, made even more fascinating by the different POVs of Jules and her daughter Leah.
There were some parts I did see coming, but I loved it, and Simmonds takes it so much further than the twists I had predicted.
The narrators were absolutely superb. The actors both fit the characters incredibly well, and it was a fabulous performance from them both.
Highly recommend the audiobook. Can't wait for more from Simmonds and these talented narrators.
A book i really loved and was all ready to rave about right up until the last 50 pages which ruined it for me. Theres a mother and daughter with a very complicated relationship. An inappropriate relationship, and lots of female rage chat about getting older that I could TOTALLY relate to… Unfortunately for me the ending felt really plan B.. like it wasn’t the original ending for the story. I’m a big fan of an eye roll ending and I could have gotten onboard with some of the revelations but this was taken a step too far for my tastes.
My Daughter's Revenge by Natali Simmonds is narrated by the powerhouse duo of Izzy Meikle-Small, and Claire Storey who electrify this compelling psychological suspense thriller
Imagine you are watching the news one day and you recognise someone. Someone who has been very much unalived. Someone who ws dating your beloved daughter. The daughter who has grown increasingly distant in recent months.
Jules and her daughter Leah have been drifting apart for a while, that is until Jules discovers letters that have been hidden away by Leah and a thread once tugged upon, can unravel very quickly. Not only do the letters tell the story between Leah and Dylan, but that he committed the cardinal sin that will have any parent furious on behalf of their child, he broke Leah's heart - so why is he now deceased? How, and by whose hand
A gripping domestic thriller that is artfully constructed. The dual POV creates a detailed narrative that is intriguing and a conclusion that was unexpected. Perfect
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, the author Natali Simmonds and narrators for this awesome ALC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own
I think I may be in the minority with this book. It seems like quite a few people liked this book a lot more than I did, and that is great!
This book just wasn't for me. I was excited about dual viewpoints, that is one of my favorite ways to understand a book. I like to see the plot through two points of view. But this plot just wasn't for me, and I also did not find it much of a thriller in the typical sense of the genre. There was also just a lot going on, and then it was also very repetitive at the same time in some places. It just wasn't for me.
But this is why books are THE BEST, there is something for anyone and everyone. It might be something that you really enjoy like everyone else.
Listening to this one was exciting..... I was trying to always figure out how I could listen to more in my day.
Secrets and Lies!!!
The narrators did a fantastic job on reading this one
At times it is a little slow and drawn out .... but when the juicy parts came they were just that
thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My Daughter's Revenge is a slowburn centered on a mother daughter relationship. This audiobook had me from the start. Natali Simmonds kept me listening because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next.
I very much enjoyed listening to this dark, dysfunctional thriller. First we have Jules, she is suffering from a deep depression, she feels old and unwanted by her husband and her children are never around, so she begins posting pictures of her body on an app in hopes of getting some good feedback. Her daughter Leah is experimenting with a sexual relationship for the first time and when she gets her heartbroken she wants revenge. This is a car wreck destined to happen and impossible to look away from. Excellent narrators!
Excellent audio book.
great narration, very much enjoyed the development of the main characters.
lots of twists.
i would highly recommend
This was the kind of thriller I needed! It was intense and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This is a revenge thriller with some spice added in along with unlikable characters and unexpected twists! I loved it!
My Daughter’s Revenge has a dual pov with mother (Jules) and daughter (Leah), so that gave it another plus for me! The book begins with a murder announcement on the news. It is a bit of a slow burner, so don’t be expecting anything super-fast.
The spice was almost too much for me, so if you don’t read books with that, you might want to stay away from the book. But the journey IS worth the read, you could skim through the spice.
I reached the ending right when I got to my apartment after working all day and my mouth just dropped. “WHAT!?!?!” It was great!
The narrators did a god job portraying both mother and daughter.
Many thanks to the publisher for granting me a copy to listen to and review. I’m going to have to purchase myself a physical copy to go in my personal library. I really enjoyed this one!
This was a revenge thriller with spice. I enjoyed listening to it and did not expect the events that happened. This one kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know more. The story was captivating and the narrators did a great job. Can't wait to read more by this author!
This one had some good twists and turns that I enjoyed. I did feel at times this was a bit repetitive and maybe I am a prude but some scenes I felt were more graphic than they needed to be but that's just my opinion. There really isn't anyone to root for in this story and I know I don't always need that but I felt that everyone is pretty horrible in their own way.
Narrated by Izzy Meikle-Small & Claire Storey both did a great job at the narration and brought the emotions or lack of emotions to the narration.
I do recommend this one.
3 stars
I received this audiobook from the publisher Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for a fair and honest review.
I found this to be a great story, and kept providing twists that I did not expect all the way through. This book had twist after twist keeping you guessing while diving into the family drama. Some parts of this story contain heavy topics, but the author did an amazing job developing each character and allowing us to feel both bad and angry for them at the same time. I definitely recommend this to anyone that likes some twisty thrillers. Thank you to Natali Simmonds, NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read an advance review copy of this book
The narrative centers on Jules, a mother contending with her fraught relationship with her daughter Leah, who has recently become enamored with a man named Dylan. Jules uncovers hidden letters from Leah that elucidate the depth of her daughter's affection for Dylan, as well as the profound sorrow that ensued following his untimely demise. This startling revelation compels Jules to introspect on her parenting decisions, acknowledging her shortcomings in raising Leah to reflect her own life experiences. The storytelling alternates between the perspectives of Jules and Leah, highlighting their individual struggles and the secrets that complicate their lives, ultimately culminating in a suspenseful and intricate plot replete with unexpected developments and emotional resonance.
As the story progresses, themes of validation and self-worth surface, depicting both women as they navigate their complex relationships with men. Leah's aspiration to lose her virginity to an older man, coupled with the fabrications she constructs, heightens the tension, while Jules grapples with feelings of isolation and inadequacy in her own existence. The author intricately crafts a thrilling narrative filled with red herrings, surprising twists, and a dramatic conclusion, rendering "My Daughter's Revenge" an engrossing literary work. The characters, including Jules, Leah, and the supporting ensemble, are vividly delineated, creating a compelling domestic thriller that captivates readers throughout its entirety.
This was an engaging, audiobook! I highly recommend this audiobook and author to anyone who is a fan of psychological thrillers. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
Oooh this is good! Simmonds perfectly captures the inner workings of the female mind here, that desperation, that confusion, but most of the the love and loyalty. I loved it.
Narrator was brilliant, really enjoyed their storytelling
Well I had to stay up and finish this book, it was sooo good! It was so twisted, everyone was involved. I loved it!
WHOA! This book was SO good! I loved every second of this wild ride. Simmonds is a new to me author, and this book definitely did not disappoint. This book blew my mind! This story is told from dual POVs - Jules and her 16 year old daughter Leah.
Simmonds writing style had me immersed in this one as the plot developed in such a suspenseful way. The sense of foreboding was so prevalent. There are multiple characters that play roles in this story, but the important ones were very well developed. Secrets, lies, deceit, and manipulation are the key themes in this intense thriller. I didn’t expect any of the things that happened in this book. I was shocked. The ending was AMAZING!
The narrator was phenomenal and had me on the edge of my entire seat the whole book! I immediately went and bought her previous book.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for introducing me to this author and for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
I love a good revenge story. So much that I've watched Revenge on Hulu probably 7x. So I requested this audiobook on @netgalley and was super excited when I was approved for the audio arc!
Leah is your typical boy-obsessed teenager.... Except for the fact that she literally got obsessed with a boy. She ends up in therapy, where her therapist recommends she write down all of her big feelings and then burn the letter. And it sort of works for a little bit. Until she goes to a music festival with her friends. She discovers a new obsession, and so begins the end of life as her entire family knows it.
There were quite a few curve balls in this book. Everyone has secrets and a few of them threw me for a loop. The narration was good, but not my favorite. I would still recommend this book if you like revenge plots and plot twists.
A good listen with an interesting premise. Enjoyed the plot and interview of the relationships between characters. The character development was very good. Was a quick pallet cleanser of a listen. Great for a long drive
I won't lie...It had me lost in the beginning. I was dragged through her thoughts a little too long that I forgot what the book was about. There is a dual pov so that kept it intriguing to know what the other (mom/daughter) was thinking. I can tell you that these two were crazy...like check them in. There were a lot of psychological ties in place so it intrigued me more but not enough of the thriller part. There was times were I wanted to skip ahead since it was getting repetitive.
Lots of twist and turns in this storyline it makes you wonder who the real villain of the story is there are so many possibilities
Good listen
