This book would be the perfect Christmas gift. It doesn’t conclusively document any one cuisine, and it’s not trying too. A good gift for the curious home cook.

Explore Global Flavors with the League of Kitchens Cookbook

Hi there,
I am super excited to share some thoughts on the League of Kitchens Cookbook with you.
I became aware of the League of Kitchens earlier this year. Lisa Kyung Gross has formed a group of cooking teachers who are immigrants to the U.S. and grandmothers.
Lisa formed this group of teachers because she wondered why, when she followed a recipe, it never tasted as good as if her Grandmother had made it. She then realized that there are secret ingredients to executing a recipe, and one of them is love.
An outgrowth of this cooking school is now a cookbook. And what a delight this cookbook is. The League of Kitchens Cookbook offers readers recipes and a journey through diverse culinary traditions. Each chapter immerses you in a different country's culture, providing authentic recipes and vibrant stories from home cooks.
This cookbook does an excellent job of making home cooking feel accessible and enjoyable. The authors have taken great care to break down recipes into manageable steps, and including beautiful photographs is inspiring.
Their stories in the cookbook add depth to each recipe, making the cooking experience feel more intimate and connected. This approach helps demystify global cuisines and fosters a sense of community among readers.
I chose to make a recipe named Sharltoka Yablokami for this review, which, translated from Russian, means "Guest at the Doorstep Apple Charlotte."

The recipe comes from Larisa Frumkin. Larissa was Born in Odessa but spent her childhood in Moscow. She became interested in cooking as a way of tolerating the food shortages. In 1974 Larisa found herself a stateless refugee to the U.S. with no right to return to the Soviet Union.
This is a delicious Charlotte. Its simplicity belies its complex flavor. The recipe can be found on page 361.

The League of Kitchens Cookbook is not just a guide to cooking; it's a visually stunning book. The layout, typography, and photography work in harmony to make it appealing. Each page invites readers to explore further, and it’s a great addition to any kitchen shelf or coffee table. Overall, it's a delightful blend of art and food that can inspire both novice and experienced cooks alike.

Each recipe has servings, recipe blurb, ingredients, and directions and most recipes have a photo as well. In the blurb many recipes say what to serve with the dish which I enjoy.

I liked how the provided recipes for kitchen staples to have on hand. The directions are pretty lengthy, but clear in the ebook version.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This cookbook is basically a cooking school for authentic cooking from Mexico, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ukraine, Greece, Afghanistan, India, Argentina, Japan, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Iran, and Nepal. Women from these regions teach people how to cook classic dishes through the author’s school (in their own homes) and she has gathered their best recipes with extremely detailed instructions for each. There are many photos, though not for every recipe. There is no nutritional information. Many recipes are vegetarian and many are naturally gluten free, though many others will have to be adapted for those with different dietary needs. Most of the recipes require ingredients that may be trickier to source, but tips are given on how to find them and some ingredients can be omitted. A great resource to learn to cook truly traditional dishes.

I read a temporary digital loan of this book for review.

If you want one cookbook with an assortment of ethnic recipes from all over the world, this is it!
I loved having a constant variety from different countries. Kept all the recipes unique!
Also love how well written the instructions are, they may seem daunting (tons of steps shown) but this is just to try to guarantee your success in making the recipes. They want to make sure you know everything to make it the best way possible.
Highly recommend this book if you are interested in global flavors.
