DNF at 13%. I mostly signed up for the narrators, as they are both fantastic and have lovely voices. But I just couldn’t get into the story.

This story about a con artist who becomes a revolutionary in the midst of a war.

Oh boy where do I begin? I don't think reading should be a chore. This book was definitely a chore for me. I didn't like the FMC (or any of the characters really), and I straight up wasn't having a good time. This book felt more like work than enjoyment, and nope, that's a nope from me. Plus, I also didn't realize this was a war book, a book I would never choose for myself. In the end, I would not recommend this book, and I did not enjoy it at all.

I am very hit and miss on romantasy so this is definitely a case of it's not you it's me. This was an interesting idea and the characters were done well. But this didn't really land for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Brilliance Publishing for the ARC

I liked the atmosphere in the book. In the start I was a bit confused by the changing timelines, but then I got into it. The setting was interesting and the relationship ok.

This was such an interesting romantasy!

I picked this audiobook up from NetGalley with very little information about it and had read zero reviews.

It gives off an odd combination of X-men meets the Russian Revolution. Hear me out, though... I was intrigued the entire time. So that means I want to actually know more about it - good job.

There were some minor plot flaws, but not enough for a DNF.

Yes, I would still recommend this to others. The audiobook was done really well.

The narrators were good choices, too.

Behind the Crimson Curtain is a dual POV, told both in 1st and 3rd person, and has jumps from past to present, and also has multiple characters that can change appearances to impersonate other people. If you can keep track of all that jumping around, it is... fine?

We follow Firin, a con artist who can change her appearance, and Bregan, a rebel and an actor.

The good: As a theater person, I enjoyed the theater drama. I also liked the concept of the con artist who can change her appearance, and the fact her father had her conning from a young age. The audiobook narrators did an excellent job.

The cons: The structure of this book was extremely confusing and made the story nearly impossible to follow for me. Neither MC pulled me in, I just didn't care about either of them. There was a ton of politics and classism that was barely explained and made the world even more confusing.

2.5 stars

This was so interesting right from the first chapter 🤌🤌a magical con artist who plays the character whichever face and shape she holds in that particular day. This was so refreshing and unique concept that I was hooked to this book till the very last page.
The pace was well maintained throughout the whole book and the characters were well written and executed too. I had a great time reading this.

This was narrated by Vanessa Johansson and Shane East. They did a FANTASTIC job bringing the characters to life.
The timeline and story, especially the shift in tense, were a bit confusing to follow with the back and forth, but the narration helped me to focus on this a bit. Firin's POV is in first person, but Bregan's were third. If I had read this exclusively with my eyes, I would have DNFd. The audio definitely saved this.
This was a great introduction to Firin and Bregan and the cliffhanger definitely has me excited for the rest of the series.

This action packed book about a con artist and actor made my head spin. Always something was going on, dual time pov, revolution, romance... I really liked before pov, about Firin's past and her previous jobs. The romance was going on too fast and didn't really like Bregan, he was lowkey irritating. The ending was interesting, but not *that* interesting, I probably won't be tempted to read the next book. Also there's kinda a little theatre in this book about a the theatre, but the atmosphere was cool. However the whole world was very confusing and was lacking more descriptions, it was just chaotic and has a lot of made up names without any explanation. Overall just mid, won't be in my head long
