This is book 1 in Rose's The Bossman series. Short and sizzling with BDSM elements. The journey to a HEA for our main characters Joey and Sophie is a push and pull. Sophie hates the mafia and all it represents due to the untimely death of her father. Along comes Joey who convinces her on date after date and then so much more. The chemistry between them, while she may try, is undeniable. Short and full of steamy chemistry, this mafia romance read is well written and smooth flowing as well as captivating. Overall a tantalizing read!
This book was given to me for free at my request thru NetGalley and I voluntarily provided this review.
The Bossman by Renee Rose is a good fit for readers seeking a lighthearted and fast-paced romance between a strong-willed woman and a dominant man with a complicated past, exploring themes of desire, submission, and reconciliation.
The Bossman was one of the first—if not THE first—novels that introduced me to mafia romance, and this was a very fast read with nothing between the pages. This book also came out when authors were writing more BDSM type scenes with bratty FMCs and this is what Renee Rose writes here and it falls flat in many areas. Also, it's just impossible for me to believe people who can barely have extended conversations feel this burst of love that makes them stay together between the copious sex scenes. Not for me.
Thank you to Riverdale Avenue Books, Desire and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Renee Rose always writes a good romance/erotic book and this one is no different. Definatly worth a read!

3.5 This was a super short and thus hella fast love story. The two MCs meetup when the hero shows up for a massage with the heroine after an injury. The heroine is dead set against being in any kind of relationship with the hero Joey because she wants no connection to the mafia after what happened to her father. Of course before she knows it things are serious and the two have a lot to overcome given Joey is the brother of the don and next in line to rule. The book was a decent enough read, I think things progressed a little awkwardly and at times too forced like when he has to temporarily take over for his brother. It was just an added obstacle for them to overcome <spoiler>unlike her miscarriage which I feel sort of got glossed over and forgotten.</spoiler> There’s also a slight bdsm tinge to the book especially once the heroine gets the taste for naughtier things 😜 It was an ok read for me but as someone who’s not usually a fan of mafia romances take that as a positive lol
I love love love a good organized crime book. This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it very much. The story flows great and the characters are well developed. I'm looking forward to reading more in the future
Another good read from the author. Highly recommend. Engaging characters as usual with a little spanking thrown in to spice up the pages of this novel.
I love me some Renee Rose and I enjoyed this one but it wouldn't make it to the top of my RR list. The elements were good - Alpha H, mafia, spankings! I was all aboard the Joey train. Sophie however, not so much. This is short on plot, but long on hotness - sometimes you just need a few spankings without all of the other stuff getting in the way!
Wow! I am blown away by this story! I was drawn in from the first page and was hooked until the last! A great read that I highly recommend! Enjoy the ride!
Sophie just didn't know she wanted to be dominated. Well her Mafia don new boyfriend Joey. She's conflicted about his kinky ways but learns to love them. Soft core and not terribly interesting.
After reading the blurb I was super excited to dive in and although I liked it, I didn’t love it. I struggled to follow the story as some scenes and points of view skipped in some places and it was confusing. There’s no denying it’s hot and steamy but I also struggled with Joey and the way he treated Sophie. This book had so much potential but just fell a little short for me. I would read more from this author though.
Hotness in the form of a mob. Yum is all I can say. Haven't really read books from this author. I will read more from them.
Steamy and hot. A girl who suffers and now requires a fully dominant male to be beside her. The story is written beautifully, enjoy the whole reading. Also love the ending.
I felt like I was reading a book with split personality, like it couldn't decide whether to be a sweet romance or a dark mafia story. In the end the two extremes didn't quite merge or convince me to be excited about either direction. I quit around the 60% mark because I just couldn't become invested with any of the characters. The writing was fine, so I would probably try this author with another storyline.
Great book. I really enjoyed the characters and the plot from this book. Thanks to Netgalley, for this free copy. My opinion was my own.
I’ve always loved a good mafia story. True crime, thriller, romance. It doesn’t matter. I eat it up like candy. Because of that, it was easy for me to love Joey. It also made it really difficult for me to completely comprehend why Sophie fights their chemistry so hard. I understand that she’s concerned by the consequences of the life they were born into, but I felt she allowed her mother’s prejudices to have too much weight. Other than Sophie fighting the relationship every step of the way, I loved watching the pair interact. From Joey’s alpha dominance to the loving way he cared for Sophie, I adored seeing them get to their happily ever after.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley.
Nice read and great chemistry between the main characters. I will definitely read more books of this author as this was the first one.
Although I certainly liked the premise of the book, and enjoy story lines that include heroes that operate left of the law, I could not get into the book. I didn't feel connected to either of the main characters and honestly could not feel their connection with each other. The characters, their dialogue and the story just felt very flat. I felt disengaged from the experience, even during the sex scenes, and it was NOT because I don't enjoy reading about spankings or bdsm. Heck, that is about 30% of my kindle library. I just didn't feel any sexual tension or passion The story formatting was also problematic with choppy paragraph transitions that made becoming immersed even more difficult.
What a fun romp! It was a quick, enjoyable read and I will look for more books by this author. Thanks!
This one wasn't what I was expecting..yes it has its kinky moments but it felt like it was lacking something - I cant quite put my finger on the missing element. Would recommend if you wanna kill some time at the salon.
