From the first page on, I just couldn´t stop reading. A good example of what a good thriller should be: creepy, mysterious, fun.

Two sisters who are bounded, not only by blood but by a secret that they have been keeping for a long time, and many other interesting characters that have you guessing the outcome throughout the entire book. An amazing story full of twists and unexpected events.

Great read if you enjoy psychological thrillers.

First off, this book had an incredibly captivating prologue. From there, it only got better. I enjoyed April and August's characters and this book was the perfect read for a misty, foggy day.

Thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing for this ARC.

I saw this was a Freida McFadden recommended book and with the spooky cover I knew I wanted to check it out. It was billed as a horror thriller too.

Unfortunately this fell flat and was a normal thriller with no real spooky vibes like the covered conveyed.

It wasn't an awful story and I didn't guess the twist. However I only didn't guess the twist because I wasn't trying. I was too busy yelling at the characters and their silly mistakes they kept making. Like the DUMBEST mistakes.

Plus, I just didn't get the sisters! I get I am an only child so maybe that's why. But the sisters weren't close at all but we're close enough to literally bury a body? Very confusing.

So many details were fleshed out and made no sense. The flashback was pointless, Benny didn't make sense including (though was one of the best characters), Eugene didn't really have a point. It seemed like way too much was trying to be done and none of it was fleshed out.

It wasn't the worst thing I've read, it was a fast read & a run of the mill thriller. However I wouldn't suggest this over countless others. Honestly the Epilogue was the best blip of the whole story.

2.5/5.00

Your typical popcorn thriller. Really strong start that kept me turning pages, and then it took an unexpected turn. Unrealistic is an understatement. I find it repetitive and contradictory at times. I enjoyed the first part of the book, there was mystery and eeriness to it. I liked Eugines point of view and overall characters. The ending seemed rushed and far fetched. I think this had a potential to be a great story but ultimately took a big tumble.

Fast-paced and thrilling, I could not put this book down! I literally read through it in a day. I don't have sister but I do have two daughters and it was nice to read a story with sisters and they're close, yet weird. bond.

Jenna Moquin is an excellent writer and her plot twists kept me holding on to the edge of my seat. Usually I am pretty good at guessing what happens in most thrillers but I was caught off guard and definitely satisfied with the final "surprise" in this book.

Perfect for readers who enjoy family drama, family relationships, thrillers, and murder mysteries that are a bit more dark than your average cozy mystery.

This was a fast read. The twists kept me hooked all the way through. Told in alternating views, the story starts with sisters Ape (April) and Auggie (August) find themselves in a difficult predicament. After talking it through and coming up with a solution, they get to work on getting rid of the problem. What they don't expect is what happens and then the whole situation gets worse. In comes another problem and another view is told. I'm being vague since I don't want to spoil this story. Lots of twists and turns you don't see coming and the whole mysterious thing with Auggie, keeps you wanting to know what's going to happen. Highly recommend!

How far will one go to cover up a murder? The sisters, April and Auggue, have an interesting relationship and will be answering this question! It's a page-turning, roller coaster ride and I was definitely engaged and invested. Great book!

If you’re looking for a horror/thriller book that will have you hooked within the first few pages, then look no further! This is such a fast pace, keep you on the edge of your book! I read it in one sitting because I just had to know what was going to happen.

This book follows April and her sister August. April shows up unannounced to her sister August’s home one evening and is shocked when she sees August’s abusive husband, Roy, dead on the kitchen floor with a knife sticking out of his back. April immediately helps her sister come up with a plan to get rid of the body, because that is what family does. Right?

It seems like everything that could go wrong with their plan, does. Between both sisters having nosy neighbors, Roy’s paranoid brother and August’s son wondering where is dad is, it’s a recipe for disaster. I don’t know how many times I was screaming inside, “that’s going to get you caught!”

There is also a dual timeline during the first part of the book that reflects on this sister’s past. This really helps you understand the strange dynamic between them and why they do not have the closest relationship.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to read the arc copy of this book. All these thoughts and opinions are my own.

Title: The Cemetery Spot
Author: Jenna Moquin
Publishing Date: August 13th, 2024

I believe this book would be referred to as a "popcorn thriller" and while I didn't eat popcorn while reading it, I did enjoy it profusely like a tub of buttered popcorn.

It was a true page-turner with some genuinely spooky moments. Or maybe it was just the graveyard setting that felt particularly eerie to me because we all have that haunted place from our childhood that still brings up irrational fears of the dead.

Overall, if you enjoy thrillers that combine fast-paced action with psychological intrigue, The Cemetery Spot is well worth your time.

Thank you to NetGalley, Jenna Moquin and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for allowing me the pleasure of reading this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

“The cemetery spot” drops you in the deep end on the first page as we read the thoughts of somebody who is driving with a dead body in the trunk of their car.

Rewind a little and we find out that these somebodies are sisters August and April. When April decides to drop in unannounced (as usual) at her sisters home, the last thing she expects is to find her standing over her husband’s dead body.

This book is a testament to how far we will go for the people we love, up to and including helping them bury a dead body.

The sisters have a very unusual relationship which we get deeper insight to via flashbacks to their childhood, i found Augusts intentions very unclear throughout the book which I think was done purposefully to keep the reader on their toes, on the opposite spectrum I found April to be very naive, too caring for her own good which results in her finding herself in tricky situations.

The entire book reads like a fever dream with characters making absolutely terrible decisions left right and centre, sometimes I wanted to throw my kindle at the book and yell “THIS IS NOT HOW YOU COVER UP A MURDED!!”.

The author does a great job of keeping you nervous *bites nails” as you anxiously keep turning page after page to see if it all goes to sh*t or if there is hope for the sisters.

I liked Eugene’s character he was enjoyably quirky and despite the last we hear from him I hope he fairs well. I also liked the open ending in regards to Benny. I couldn’t tell the dynamic between the two characters, at some point I was picking up romantic vibes but in the last part of the book April kept mentioning brotherly feelings.

This would make a fun book to do as a buddy read so you can discuss with your friend every time you get stressed with the events and twists unfolding 🤣🤣.

Thank you to the author for thinking of me for an advanced copy, I had a lot of fun reading this rollercoaster thriller!

I received an ARC from NetGalley at the recommendation from Freida McFadden.

The Cemetery Spot is that book that will have you thinking you’ve solved it from the very beginning. The story is told from April - known as Ape. It’s a book you will want to finish in one sitting as the plot keeps getting better.

It is a great read and deserves its 5 stars

A gripping thriller that grips you on page one and never lets go! This book covers a common and relatable topic: an abusive husband has gone too far, and a wife is forced to go too far in response. This book follows two sisters, August (Auggie) and our narrator April (Ape). Ape is a fiercely loyal younger sister, who grew up following in her sister’s footsteps, at any cost. When Auggie makes the difficult decision to murder her husband Roy to protect her family, will April be the one who pays? Brought closer by past incidents, April knows she has to help her sister bury the body. They had found the perfect spot. They are sisters, their bond is solid, they will never tell one another’s secrets. But what if they weren’t alone?

After seeing lots of positive reviews for this book, I had to grab it, and it did not disappoint! A quick glance at the synopsis will show you a familiar plot that you expect to find entertaining, but you are in for SO much more than what the blurb shares!

When April (Ape) showed up at her older sister August's (Auggie) house, the last thing she expected to find was a dead man. While she suspected that Auggie's husband Roy had been abusing her for years, her suspicions are confirmed upon finding his sister standing over his body. Like any good sister, she willingly agrees to help Auggie bury the body to avoid jail time and leaving her nephew without a mother.

Roy is buried in the woods near an old church with a dark past. The sisters think they're in the clear, but someone was watching. And when Roy's brother comes to look for him, April begins to realize that she may have had the wrong idea about who was the violent one in their relationship.

Told in alternating timelines, the past chapters are a treasure trove of information into the family dynamic and sisterly bond between the women. There were several twists that I didn't see coming, and the layered, complex familial relationships were brimming with small details that made them SO relatable. I absolutely inhaled this book, and if you love thrillers, I think you will too!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing for this early read. At the time this review was written, this title was slated to publish on August 13, 2024.

This book had me hooked from page one! The twists kept coming and when I thought I had it figured out I was so wrong!

Another fantastic thriller by Jenna Moquin, the author of Stalks. The Cemetery Spot had me hooked from the beginning! Jenna had me suspicious of almost every character at some stage along the way, and I was wrong every time! But, the twist...I can certainly say I did not see that coming. Highly recommend this one, 5 stars

If you walked in on your sister standing over her husband with a knife in his back, how far would you go to help her? April decides to visit her sister one night and finds her sister Auggie standing over her abusive husband’s dead body. The sisters hatch a plan to cover up the murder and bury the body. April finds a remote abandoned cemetery and they bury him late at night. But somebody is watching. Will the sister’s secret stay buried and who knows the truth?

“The Cemetery Spot “ starts out like whiplash. I was quickly drawn in but I felt it lose momentum for a bit but then picked right back up. The backstory of the sisters being woven throughout the plot helps you understand the sister relationship dynamics. There were excellent twists throughout. The author did such a great job of putting you in the scene that I felt chills run down my spine at certain points. The author leaves small bread crumb clues throughout, so pay attention! The story does get gruesome at some points so definitely not for faint of heart. The last entry from Eugene is the chef’s kiss to the ending!

A huge thank you to NetGalley, Jenna Moquin and Victory Editing for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. This book publishes on August 13, 2024.

Really enjoyed this ARC- thank you to netgalley and Publishers for my advanced copy.
Quick read page turing 1st read by author. Started out with action and ended with action.
Had some not so favorite parts- parts seemed repetitive between the sisters. Why was Ape all of a sudden so suspicious of her sister?
The ending seemed a bit rushed, I kinda wanted to find Benny. Also loved the Eugene point of view but do want to point out and possibly ask if I missed something? In one chapter he mentions his wife thinks marriage counseling helps them and then later says she had laughed marriage counseling off.

But over all I very much enjoyed it and can't wait to read more by this author!

The Cemetery Spot by Jenna Moquin was a page turner! I binged this book in a day and a half and enjoyed every moment.
Very well written, and the characters were all realistic and very well developed.
I really enjoyed the writing style. I found myself gripped, turning the pages, not knowing what was to come next.
It was suspenseful, mysterious and unpredictable.

Thank You NetGalley and Victory Editing for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
