Right up front this book is really hard to digest, too much is thrown at the reader right at the beginning. There isn't much character building or world building throughout the book. It reminds me of a Temu version of Wheel of Time.
First, I want to say that I did read the first and second chapter, and it did remind me of Lindsay Badenoch's writing in The Daughter of the Runes, which isn't a bad thing at all, it's the book that got me back into reading, and for that I'll forever cherish it.
The plot line has so much potential, especially with the concept of the Song.
I don't doubt that this wouldn't be a good novel targeted towards teens if there was a rework.
With that being said, from the very beginning, there was too much information being dished out all at once, fixing this would be easy by letting the MC figure out things by herself, and mention things in later chapters.
The other thing I noticed in the writing was the lack of environmental writing, (showing the environment and the feeling of the character, more than what the characters are saying) if this were added, I feel as though there wouldn't be issues with pacing and the random timeskips or pov switches.
It did feel like a duplicate of the Wheel of Time, especially when Bolkin was mentioned as a ''protector,'' then the tower, then the ranks within the tower.
