Thank you NetGalley, Hatchett Audio, and Forever for this ALC!
- I love a witchy romance, and this book had everything I look for! It was so fun, sweet, silly, and I could not put it down!
- I loved every part of the “they are witches but they’ve lost their magic in a curse but they have continued pretending to be witches and the whole town thinks they’re crazy” dynamic. It was so incredibly fun to watch that play out, between how sweet Delia was towards her aunts and grandmas and how strange the rest of the town thought they were.
- Max and Delia were so great together, and I love the “stuffy MMC who has never felt emotions meets a girl that makes him feel things” trope-this book did that so well!
- The world building was so much fun, and I really hope we get more books in this universe!
- Nicky was my absolute favorite character, and his arc was so surprisingly impactful!!
This was such a fun book. Full of witchy magic, cozy vibes and an evil scheming villain. I think this is a perfect romantic read for fall. I loved the dual POV’s and suggest listening to the audiobook version. The two narrators are really fun and portray Delia and Max really well. I loved that there wasn’t just romance in this story there also was a mystery and some twists. I will say I saw the twists coming and thought parts of it were pretty obvious but it was still a really fun feel good story. Delia and Max had a great relationship. It felt natural and I loved the slow burn, chemistry, and spice between them. It was so cute seeing Max come out of his shell and fall head over heels for Delia. The ending was honestly my favorite part and I loved how this author handled everything. Definitely a perfect HEA that made my heart happy with some revenge! I highly recommend this one for fans of paranormal romance with fun fantasy elements, humor and great characters.
This is a fun rom com perfect for fall. It follows a family who think they're cursed witches as they try and break the hex. Delia can't help but flirt with her neighbor's nephew Max, who is unknowingly keeping an eye on her witchy family.
There's a lot going on in the premise but once you're in it's an enjoyable story full of magic, family and love. It has Sabrina the Teenage Witch vibes including a magical cat. The romance aspect wasn't my favorite -- there was a bit of an insta-love connection with not much chemistry.
Overall it's an easy weekend read if you want to get into the Halloween spirit.
I liked the audiobook, though it took me time to adjust to the alternating narration due to Delia's southern accent.
Thanks NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the complimentary audiobook.
This wickedly fun romance was a good way to pass the time over Labor Day weekend. While I didn't like the male narrator, I still really enjoyed the story. I really hope this isn't the last we'll see of this family of witches or the semi-magical community they live in.
Rating: 3.5
Big thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the ALC!
What a witchy delight! This book was exactly what I hoped it would be…sweet, kooky, atmospheric, and a little spicy. What I wasn’t expecting was all that lore! I loved how the story featured an entire magical world with a rich history, including a secret city, different witch classifications, ancient texts, enchanted objects…the list goes on! The author put so much work into the fine details and I hope that means there’s a series in the works.
And the characters! I fell in love with the entire Merriweather family, especially the aunts. They made me laugh out loud SO many times! All the kudos to the outstanding narrators who brought the large cast of characters to life. There are LOTS of people in this book and the voice actors did an incredible job making each distinct.
The one part I wish was stronger was the romance. It’s very much present but didn’t get as much page time as the world-building, relying on an “insta love” connection that I had a hard time buying into. If this does end up being a series, I hope more time is spent exploring Delia and Max’s connection.
Excuse me while I place a little enchantment to help manifest Book 2 (and 3…and 4…)! I had a blast listening to this sweet-spooky romp and hope to spend more time with Delia, Max, and their families someday.
HOT HEX BOYFRIEND IS LITERALLY LIKE IF THE PRACTICAL MAGIC MOVIE WAS TURNED INTO A BOOK (yes I know Practical Magic is a book but the movie is way different 👀) ANDDD IF IT WAS SET IN TEXAS AND THE CHARACTERS WERE SOUTHERN (which I love even more than the setting of Practical Magic because duh)! 🥳😍
As someone who is starting to get into the fall/halloween/spooky vibes, this was PERFECT! There's romance, magic, AND suspense! I love when romance books also have an aspect of suspense and let me tell you, I never would've predicted the ending!
The southern vibes, the kinda enemies to lovers, the personal growth story, the amazing characters (main and side), magic, the really great narrators, and an amazing story made this an AMAZING listen for me!
if you're looking for amazing book with all of the great southern + fall vibes, you should definitely give this book a listen! Thank you so much to Forever Books for an early audiobook copy in exchange for an unbiased review!💖
Thank you to Forever Publishing for the eARC/ALC.
Hot Hex Boyfriend was a hoot. Delia’s family line is descended from witches…at least that’s what her grandmother says, even if Delia doesn’t believe it. Max is there taking care of his late uncle’s home (Delia’s neighbor) and making sure that Delia doesn’t break the hex upon her family.
This book was just funny and cozy. It was dual narration so it was great getting to see both points-of-view and getting to know more about the magic side from Max’s view. There were instant sparks between him and Delia and it was adorable seeing them fall into their feelings for each other. There wasn’t a ton of steam in this story, but what was there was *very nice.*
The best part was the side characters, though. Delia’s kooky (but loving and accepting) family, her ride or die best friend, Max’s brother and parents, and even Nicky, the imp/familiar (hellloooooo to his accent). Hot Hex Boyfriend was really just light and happy (although I did cry at one point—spoiler alert) and I couldn’t get enough.
I will happily read this again and will look for more from this author.
This was a lot of fun, and I really loved both of the narrators.
I love a good witchy story to usher in fall and this was perfect for what I was looking for. I loved Delia and Max so much. I also loved all of the side characters - a lot of the time the side characters can really make the story for me.
I would like to thank NetGalley for giving me an audio-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This was so stinking cute!!
I loved Delia and Max!!
The Merriweathers have said they were witches for forever and have made a "soup" every year in order to break the supposed hex that was placed on the family. So when Delia accidentally breaks the hex, she's absolutely surprised that it's all true.
We get adorable moments between her and Max that lead to their inevitable relationship, we get cute moments with the family as they mess around with their magic, and as much as this book had cozy written all over it, the ending had some action. This totally gave me Practical Magic vibes, and I was here for it.
And to top it off, the narrators did a fantastic job bringing this to life. I highly recommend this cozy cute book to literally everyone.
The more Merrieweather’s the merrier !
Delia Merriweather feels out of place in her family where she doesn’t believe in magic of any kind, but the rest of her family is convinced they are witches. Their powers?? They don’t exist due to a supposed hex cast on them by an evil witch. However, Delia is special- she was born with a special birthmark and was born on a blue moon. It’s believed she possesses a special power to break the hex without putting any babies in harms way, but she doesn’t believe in any of it.
Delia plays along, to keep her sanity, with the rituals, potions, and spells. Yet she refuses to play along with the crazy idea to break the hex with a wild spell and ritual that included boiling a baby.
The Merriweather’s neighbor has recently passed and his nephew, Max, moves in. This book is from the POV of both Max and Delia. He is very much aware and a believer of the witching world. He identifies Delia as the blue witch that she is and knows she’s up against a timeline to claim her magic before her 30th birthday and break her family’s hex.
Max’s brother Luke is also in town to settle things with his recent uncle’s death. Max and Luke are both very much in tune with the truth of the witching world. Luke is convinced the Merriweather family is up to no good and as part of his job, doesn’t want to let them out of his sight. This forces Max to be around more and he finds himself attracted to Delia, despite his resistance.
Will Delia finally accept her fate? Will she feel betrayed when she finds out Luke’s motives and the knowledge Max had? Will Max give in to his emotions and take things further with Delia ?? Read to see!
I loved this comedic story of family, love, and magic. Super cutesy and fun. I did the audiobook and both narrators did an excellent job.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hachette audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Out 9/3/24!
This was a delicious dual POV, small town, witchy forbidden romance between Delia Merriweather, a non-magical witch whose family has been hexed and haven't had access to their powers for generations and Max, a warlock whose family is responsible for hexing the Merriweathers.
When Max moves to town to monitor the situation with the hex, and prevent Delia from overturning it, he can't help catching feelings for the sweet witch. This slow burn was steamy, good on audio and had fun side characters with some Sleeping Beauty vibes. Highly recommended for fans of authors like Hazel Beck and Erin Sterling.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
What a wonderful easy read this book is. Heartwarming filled with laughter, emotion and a little touch of magic.
I greatly enjoyed it to the fullest.
Such a fun witchy rom-com read! I loved the inter generational family on the FMC’s side and the messy relationship the MMC had with his parents. There were so many great elements in this book and I would certainly read more witchy books by this author. The details were well researched and detailed and I absolutely loved the ending. A must read for witch fans!

Synopsis
Hot Hex Boyfriend is sure to warm your heart and leave you smiling. Set in small town Texas, this novel combines witchy vibes with the classic appeal of a cozy fall rom-com, making it the perfect read for the witchy season.
Cordelia "Delia" Merriweather doesn't believe in magic anymore, despite her family’s insistence that they’re witches cursed to lose their powers. When Max Halifax moves in next door to settle his uncle’s affairs, he’s tasked with ensuring that Delia doesn’t break the ancient hex that his family placed on hers. But as Max and Delia get to know each other, their connection grows undeniable, and what started as a duty for Max turns into something much more complicated and magical.
Review
Delia’s and Max’s quirky families are the heart of the story, with their bumbling yet loving dynamics providing plenty of laughs and warmth.
Even though the romance is slow burn it keeps you on your toes and there is never a dull moment.
The small-town setting doesn't feel limiting but is vividly portrayed. The side characters are flushed out and add an extra layer of fun to the story, making it even more enjoyable.
I highly recommend the audiobook. Narrators Laura Knight Keating and Zion Jang do an outstanding job of giving each character a unique and distinct voice.
Thank you to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for providing the audiobook.
A cute, cozy, funny story, but it does move a little slow. I was expecting Delia breaking her family’s hex to be the inciting incident based on the blurb, so I was pretty surprised it didn’t happen until halfway through the book. So then I thought the introduction of the inequality the hedge witches face was introduced rather late in the story. I did really like the description of magic and the magic system, though.
I loved the dynamic between Delia and her goofy family, and I loved the scenes with the whole cast of characters.
The audiobook was enjoyable and I really liked the female narrator. She did a great southern accent, and she was entertaining to listen to. The male narrator was great also, but his volume fluctuated a lot and was much quieter overall than the female narrator, so it made hearing some parts difficult.
Overall, a cute spooky season read.
Delia has always been told she’s a witch and that she comes from a long line of witches and that they would be powerful, but that there has been a hex on them for years, but of course that’s just her crazy family talking nonsense. But it turns out it’s true - and the hex is actually more complicated that new really cute neighbor that moved in, it was placed years ago by his family AND can only be broken by her. But when Delia unknowingly breaks the hex and falls for her family’s archenemy (and he falls for her) all magic breaks loose.
I requested this audio widget on a Friday thinking it looked cute; little did I know how much I would need this adorable distraction over the weekend. This book was so fun and I maybe it also is making me accept that summer is allllmost over (I have one more day and I refuse to let go until I have to). I have always loved a good witchy tale (The Mayfair Witches and Discovery of Witches are high on my list of favorite series) so I was excited to read this and it totally delivered. It kept me thoroughly entertained during a really tough weekend, made me smile, and had a little romance as well. It’s absolutely a great Fall read (and nice way to dip my toes into the autumnal season especially since I am not a pumpkin spice latte girl).

This story was so fun! It truly filled my heart with all the warm and fuzzy fall vibes.
Cordelia ‘Delia’ Merriweather comes from a long line of witches, not that she believes in witches. Her family says that they were hexed decades ago and lost all of their magic. They believe she is the blue witch, born under a blue moon, who will break it.
Max Halifax comes to the small town of Willow Root to settle his uncle’s affairs after he dies. His uncle moved in next door to the Merriweather’s in order to watch them and make sure they didn’t break the hex that his family placed on them years ago. The witch world believes the Merriweather’s to be dangerous and now Max must do whatever it takes to make sure they don’t reclaim their lost magic. When he meets Delia and her family, they are nothing like what he expected. Delia is sweet and carefree, and doesn’t even believe in magic.
As they get closer to each other, the magic between them can’t be denied.
I thought this story line was really fun and unique! There were moments when Delia’s family reminded me of Practical Magic and I loved it! Delia and Max were great together and there was a nice little dose of spice added in towards the end!
The side characters were so fun. Max’s parents had me cracking up and Delia’s family was HILARIOUS. I absolutely ADORED Nicky, a magical imp, bound to be the Halifax familiar. He was hands down my favorite character! 🐈⬛

The audio of this one is well done. Both narrators captured the characters well. The story was fun and a perfect fall read. The Merriweather family insists they are witches, but Delia simply thinks her family is goofy. She doesn’t believe in witchcraft. Max knows the truth of witches and has been sent to ensure the Merriweather curse holds, and must interact with Delia and her family. With each interaction he starts to question his role and looks at magic in a different way. The chemistry between Delia and Max is undeniable. The story is humorous with a slow burn romance.
Thank you to Forever for the opportunity to read an ALC all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was the perfect way to kick off my witchy season reading! It’s a cute, cozy read that had me giggling the whole time. I loved watching Max fall for Delia, even though it went against everything he believed in. And Nicky? Absolute delight! His banter had me nearly bursting out laughing in the middle of the grocery store! If you’re in the mood for a fun witchy romance with some unique magical twists, this is definitely the book for you!
This is a fun, witchy romance. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which made for a lighthearted read despite family curses, death of loved ones, and a few dark moments. I loved how my understanding of the town and the general magical world shifted and grew as the story progressed. I appreciated the parallels between Delia’s chaotic but loving family and Max’s respectable family. Also, the banter is top-notch.
The audiobook is narrated by Laura Knight Keating and Zion Jang. I thought they both did a lovely job. I appreciate it when books with multiple POVs have multiple narrators, especially for romance novels. There was one section that threw me off because I think it was Delia’s POV, but the male voice was narrating. Overall, though, I enjoyed their performance.
