A delightful story appropriate for children or all ages. Wonderful message about not letting our anxieties get the best of us. Would make a wonderful read aloud for any elementary classroom.
Little Desi thinks that there are monsters under her bed. As usual she runs to Mami for help. Mami understands and comforts Desi and explains things to her in a gentle way. Desi worries all the time, she sometimes has scary thoughts and even worries that her brain can be a monster. We have all felt this way and some of us struggle daily with worries and fears. In this amazing story Mami helps Desi to see that she can learn to fight these monsters and scare them away. She knows with Mami she can do anything.
I loved the message this story sends to little ones. Sometimes they don’t understand those feelings and emotions that can be like a scary monster every day. Especially at night alone. Eva Mendes did an amazing job gently showing little ones that they can overcome those monsters and everything will be okay.
We had the pleasure of enjoying this as an audiobook ARC and I was so amazed. Eva told their story herself and with her comforting voice did a supreme job of telling this story and sharing its message. I highly recommend this to any family to share together. A perfect bedtime addition to your routine.
A Million Stars to this story 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I listened to the audio version of Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries, narrated by author Eva Mendes. I found the delivery was clear and articulate. The intentional changes to the tone of voice when switching between the characters within the story were what helped to make it engaging.
I thought the story was cute, and it creatively discussed how to tackle worries in an appropriate way for young children in the K-2 grade range to understand.
I think a physical copy along with audio would be a great addition to a child's library.

This one grabbed my attention because of the beautiful cover. The audiobook just didn’t do it for me. Eva read it herself but she had absolutely zero emotion and it really bored me. My daughter enjoyed it. I really wish the books would be a picture book but have audio to go with them. I would consider reading the physical book again and recommend it but I wouldn’t recommend the audiobook.
Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Young Listeners for the copy.
This was absolutely adorable, and I could relate to it even though I'm not a child. It would make such a charming animation, with its playful and heartwarming vibe.
I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.
Desi thinks there is a monster under their bed and run to Mami for help. I loved how Mami helped talk them through the fear, found the underlying fear, and help Desi face that fear. I great book for any kid experiencing anxiety.
This audiobook was made available for me to listen to and review by Eva Mendes, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley.
The narrator of this audiobook is Eva Mendes. Ms. Mendes does a wonderful job conveying emotion and has a gentle sweet tone throughout the narration. This is a high quality production that includes a cheerfum soundtrack of background noises to enhance the narration. This works perfectly to hold the interest of young ones.
This begins with Desi running to tell her Mami about the monsters in her room. Mami assires her there are no monsters and starts exploring the source of Desi's anxiety.
This is an important story for young kids about how to handle anxiety. Desi is talked through a breathing excercise by her Mami. I think this is a perfect book to support anxious kids about tools to calm their anxiety.
Thank you to Eva Mendes, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. All opinions and viewpoints expressed in this review are my own.
Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending-Worries is about facing anxiety and worries. Desi can’t seem to get the scary thoughts out of her head. Mami is there to validate her feelings and give her the tools to work through the issue.
This is a great children’s book. I love the mother listening to their child. Giving Desi the techniques to deal with her feelings. Letting her daughter know this feelings are normal and won’t last forever.
I will definitely be pre-ordering this book.
This heartwarming book shows how Mami helps Desi overcome her fears and anxieties with useful tools, building her confidence. The story introduces an innovative technique for calming the mind through breath focus. The narration is excellent, and the audiobook complements the story beautifully with engaging sound effects. Recommended for both children and adults, it’s a sweet and effective guide for dealing with anxiety and troubling thoughts.
I initially requested Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries by Eva Mendes because I wanted to support a fellow Cuban woman in her endeavors. However, I ended up falling in love! Both Desi and Mami are relatable and memorable. I love how Mami gives Desi tools to help with her fears and anxiety to let her gain confidence in doing it for herself. I will be sharing this with my two younger children (10 and 13).
Eva Mendes does a wonderful job narrating the book. However, I'll buy the physical copy to be able to see the pictures that go with the story.
A great kids book with an important message. I liked the quick take aways that will be easy to repeat to my kids, like “thoughts are like clouds” and “just because you think it, doesn’t make it true”. The narration was great, and the sound effects added another level of interest.
Thank you Macmillan Audio for the copy through NetGalley in exchange for a review.
The audiobook version of Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries is well done, with wonderful sound effects and a journey of a story kids will want to go on. I loved that this story came up with an inventive way for kids to focus on their breaths to calm their minds and decrease worries.
Creative way to teach big lessons to small minds. Didnt enjoy the narrator for the audiobook- sounded like the 90’s dry eyes commercial guy!
I listened to the audio narration of this book, read by Eva Mendes herself! It's a sweet story that guides children through the complexities of anxiety, worry, and spiraling thoughts. Actually, maybe it should be required adult reading or listening. I love that it gave tools for dealing with the thoughts - it's therapy light.
The audio was excellent - would be a great addition to a calming bedtime routine. The background sounds of crickets draws you right into the story, the music was soothing, and the narrator does a great job with the voices. I didn't like the monster/brain sounds, but they don't last long.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the chance to listen to this ARC!
5⭐️ for the book itself
3 ⭐️ for the audition narration.
I am thankful to have gotten the AudioARC for free from Netgalley and Macmillan Audio so I can leave my voluntary review.
With an adult book I would have used the narration rating as my overall rating. However I rate Chrildrens books differently. So even though my duty was to review the audio book, I’m not going to rank the over rating as it’s a good book.
First for the good. While I didn’t get to see the illustrations except for the cover art, if the cover is art is any indication the art is wonderful and fun.
I enjoyed that the book is published in both English and Spanish and in the English version she does use some phrases in Spanish and the characters are as well. I love the representation as well.
I also love the symbolism of using a monster to describe anxiety and the mother helping her children through it rather than excusing it away.
It’s a great book for any small child’s library, especially those dealing with anxiety in general or at bedtime/ afraid of the dark.
Now for the narration… it is narrated by the books author Eva Mendez, the actress. You would expect something fabulous and well, it wasn’t. She read very flat and. It engaging at all. Picture books are hard in audio books since they aren’t accessible books where they describe the illustrations so you miss so much. While it was produced with some light sound effects it just doesn’t have the polish that audiobooks typically have. Even the voice recording sounded off like it wasn’t done in a sound booth.
Anyway, I recommend the book 100% although the language it more fitting with kids in at least 2nd grade and up. I do not recommend the audiobook unless you absolutely need it.
My rating system for Middle Grade and children’s books
⭐️ Significant problems and would never recommend to the audience.
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea but may have some appeal.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ an ok book which I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend but it has some value for young readers
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! I would recommend for the age or reading level appropriate for the book
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Would recommend highly, especially to school programs as a wide spread reading opportunity.
Thought this was a really cute audiobook. Eva Mendes did a great job narrating the story. I went with the audiobook as quick listen but obviously the physical book would be great to read to your children. Like the story as well - very relatable and helpful.
