Chaos is book 3 in the science fiction romance Uncharted Hearts series. This time we follow the spaceship Calamity engineer Caro when she is lured into a prison break style mission by a former captain to rescue two friends and a man being subjected to experimentation by a nefarious mafia style Family. Sparks start to fly when Cato meets her man to rescue and she is the only one who can reach the little humanity left inside.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bramble for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review. I am giving this book 3.5⭐️.
I really enjoy this book series and did enjoy this book. I enjoyed the relationship between Caro and Levi although the spice scenes between them were fairly tame. If you are not a fan of prison break stories then this won’t be a book for you as most of it is about not only breaking out of a rather fancy prison, but breaking back in and then breaking out again. I liked the ending and the setup for book 4 but I really feel like the biggest strength to this series is the found family aspect and when the entire crew of Calamity is together. Sadly that is missing from almost all of this book so this gets 3.5⭐️ from me.
I do already have a copy of this book preordered and will post about it on my social media (TikTok and YouTube) closer to its release date.

This was my first read by this author and I'm also new to sci-fi romance, but I heard the hero was similar Bucky Barnes from Captain America: Civil War and I knew I needed to read this ASAP.

I am glad to report that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Chaos. As stated before, I have no read the previous books in this series but I did not feel lost jumping right into this one. I felt the world was explained well without feeling like an info-dump. I thought the world was creative. I never felt lost while reading.

Caro and Leviathan were fantastic characters. I really enjoyed their dynamic a lot. Plus I thought Caro's alien bug infection disabling Leviathan's mind control chip was interesting (plus a reason for them to touch!). Their romance is endearing, sweet and romantic. I would have liked some more steamy scenes, but that's just my personal preference.

Everything was woven together perfectly. Really enjoyable!

This is my second read from Constance Fay and I am in love.

Chaos is an exhilarating sci-fi romance that takes readers on a wild ride through a galaxy of danger, wit, and unexpected connections. Caro, a quick-witted and tenacious engineer with something to prove to her crew of space mercenaries, is determined to earn their respect. She takes a solo mission to rescue two other mercenaries and a prisoner. They are in prison, conducting human experiments to make super soldiers. Caro must escape the prison and get people off the planet.

Caro's brilliance and humor make her a delightful character. She is not built for danger and adventure but proves your brain can be as powerful as a blaster. Her first encounter with the prisoner, Leviathan, is terrifying as he has a mind control chip, and she barely escapes him in a prisoner maze, think lab rat. To her shock, Caro's alien bug infection disables technology and the chip controlling Leviathan. This break restores his free will. When she touches him, the spark between them is undeniable. The romance between Caro and Leviathan is endearing and nicely woven into a high-stakes narrative. Caro and Leviathan's story offers plenty of laughs, nail-biting tension, and moments of warmth and vulnerability. The author creates fierce female characters and a blend of action and heart. I can't wait to hear more from the crew of the Calamity.

I received an ARC ebook for my honest review. Thank you, NetGalley and Tor Publishing, Bramble.

Ms. Fay’s writing continues to captivate, and with each book, she seems to reach new galaxies. This latest installment is, without a doubt, my favorite of the series so far.
In this book, we finally uncover the secrets that Caro has fought so hard to keep hidden.

Fiercely loyal to those she considers family, she’s faced with a crisis: two of her own are in trouble. And at long last, we get to see Victor and Victory in action—and they do not disappoint! To save the twins, Caro has no choice but to confront her past, even if that means getting herself arrested in the process. Caro’s inner monologue is every bit as hilarious and engaging as I’d hoped, delivering moments of laughter even amid the tension. Her unorthodox prison rescue leads her to some surprising revelations, as old mistakes return to haunt her. Leviathan, for one, is the kind of haunting many wouldn’t mind!

The romance between Caro and Levi feels especially moving in this book. Levi falls first for his “angel,” and Caro’s unique position allows her to help him rediscover himself after a past mission left his mind in pieces. Caro and Levi’s relationship feels deeply authentic because they’re both damaged, but they face it all together, and that mutual resilience makes their love story one of my favorite aspects of the book.

The chapters from Victory’s perspective add such a rich layer to the story—she’s every bit as sassy and sharp as the other “gals” on the team, and her voice is a fantastic addition.I also loved the GR81 storyline; it brought humor and humanity to Caro and her team, even while they face some pretty dark situations.

All in all, this story is an outstanding addition to the series, and I’m already hoping for more books to come!

This book doesn't reinvent the wheel, sure, but boy is it fun, fast-paced, and filled with excellently-written chemistry. Caro and Leviathan must battle the evil Pierce family and each other in this fun sci-fi-flavored romance. Constance Fay has written a few of these now (I think this is the third?) and they're all playful and efficient. Recommended for fans of action and romance.

This book was a masterpiece. I found that Constance was able to blend sci0fi, aliens and forbidden romance in a way that was not outlandish but instead attention grabbing. I enjoyed the push and pull between the MCs and especially enjoyed the sassiness from the FMC. I loved the world development, the space travel, alien worlds and the cadets until the last word. The story had just enough mystery and suspense along the lines of me wanting to know what would happen with the FMC and the MMC and the aliens as a whole but also curious when the other show would drop. This was my first book by Constance but I am excited to read more.

DNF.

Unfortunately, I just don't think the book is for me. I didn't realize it was the third in a series (I double checked the NetGalley page and the information isn't anywhere), but the books appear to be about each individual couple, so when I did find out, I hoped it would ultimately be fine. I guess it kind of was, but that's because Caro, the main character, pretty much info dumped the previous two books, her life story, and everything else in between in the first few chapters. It was so much information so quickly, but it also wasn't all the information I needed. She mentioned the Families a few times without explaining much about the concept of it, like who the five ones were and what they did, other than have a luxurious prison and one of them does experiments on humans. I just felt so lost.

The phrasing was also kind of over written in some spots. Caro was running away from bugs that were trying to kill her and some of her descriptions were flowery. You're running for your life! Why are you calling the bugs "charcoal bodies"? That's just a small example and it didn't change from what I read. Caro also very early says she saves her own skin first, always, and then is called by her ex-captain, who she very much dislikes, and agrees to go save two of his workers that she knows from a prison without any sort of agreement to get paid. It just didn't make sense.

Overall, this book wasn't for me, but I imagine fans of the series will enjoy it. If you are interested, I would recommend probably reading the first two books in the series first.

Chaos, the third book in Constance Fay’s *Uncharted Hearts* series, is a thrilling mix of science fiction, romance, and adventure. Set in a richly developed galaxy, this novel combines high-stakes action with a compelling love story that will captivate fans of space operas like *Firefly* or *The Expanse*.

The plot centers on Caro Ogunyemi, an ambitious space mercenary determined to prove her worth by taking on a dangerous solo mission. She infiltrates a secret prison laboratory controlled by the ruthless Pierce family, who conduct unethical human experiments. Caro's journey takes a wild turn when she’s injected with a controlling device by Carmichael Pierce. This setup intensifies as an alien infection she carries begins to disrupt every piece of technology she touches.

In this precarious situation, Caro meets Leviathan, a super soldier whose mind is controlled by a chip implanted in his brain. However, when Caro touches him, her alien infection breaks his mind control, sparking a tense and emotional bond between the two as they fight to escape the clutches of their captors. The romance that unfolds between Caro and Leviathan adds a compelling emotional layer to the action-packed narrative.

Fay’s ability to blend pulse-pounding action with a tender, slow-burn romance is one of the novel's greatest strengths. Caro is a sharp, resourceful protagonist, and her relationship with Leviathan feels earned as they both struggle to regain their agency. Themes of autonomy, resilience, and connection run throughout the novel, making it both thought-provoking and engaging.

The world-building in *Chaos* is immersive, filled with well-drawn futuristic technology and alien influences that enhance the plot’s complexity. The pace is quick, keeping readers hooked as Caro and Leviathan navigate their escape while deepening their emotional connection.

While the novel excels in its character development and fast-paced plot, some readers might find its reliance on familiar science fiction tropes a bit predictable. Still, for fans of space romances with action-driven plots and strong emotional arcs, *Chaos* delivers a satisfying, entertaining experience.

Overall, *Chaos* is a dynamic space adventure that balances romance and sci-fi in an exciting narrative. Fans of the *Uncharted Hearts* series will find this installment a thrilling continuation, and new readers can jump in without feeling lost, thanks to Fay’s clear storytelling.

This was a unique concept and enjoyed that the mind control being broken by touch, it added to the scifi element and was glad it worked with the genre. The characters had that element that I was expecting and thoroughly enjoyed the overall flow of the story. Constance Fay was able to create a strong story and was invested in this, I hope Constance Fay writes more as this was really well written.

Thank you to Tor and NetGalley for providing a DRC of this title for review.

Fun! Although this one dragged a little in the middle for me (I would have loved to see them escape the prison a little earlier and still have some off-site adventures), I’m still really loving this series. Would definitely recommend for fans of sci-fi romance!

Engineer Caro Ogunyemi goes on a solo mission to rescue a prisoner, Leviathan, from a super secret prison for wealthy families that run the galaxy. Caro's university thesis provided the framework to use chips to manipulate people into following orders. Caro has to make up a plan as she infiltrates the prison and tries to rescue Leviathan. This book can be read as a standalone. Fans of science-fiction romances will love this book.

I loved the premise and the first 50% of the book, but the ending didn't feel connected to the rest of the book. The supersoldier with amnesia was giving me Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Wolverine vibes. I loved it. I want to know if Fay named the main character Leviathan as an homage to The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey. Caro's intelligence as an engineer reminded me of Naomi Nagata from The Expanse. GR81 was a hilarious and heartwarming sentient robot. I enjoyed all of his scenes. Although I liked the Victory chapters, it felt like a device to propel the plot forward. Especially since the Victory chapters only made up about 5-10% of the book. This book desperately needed more spicy scenes between Caro and Levi--they only get 1.5 scenes together!
