I adored the first two books in this series so I have been impatiently waiting for the next one.
This book is once again very different in structure than the previous two, and while I loved the heist narrative, I was a bit underwhelmed by Caro, but I think this is more a personal preference. I think since she was in the previous two books to varying degrees I already had an idea of what she was like, and this didn't match that - she felt younger, a bit more green than I was expecting. I do appreciate the growth that we see in her character, I just would have appreciated it a bit sooner in the narrative. Her chemistry and relationship with Leviathan though really made this the sci-fi romance than I love from Fay. It was completely original but full of layers and growth that makes it such a joy to read.
The narrative is well plotted with the tension and layering working so well to give all the vibes of a heist movie even though everything goes wrong. The world that Fay has built through the series has the right amount added to it, but with callbacks and foundational structure still the same. I was so happy to finally meet the twins and am already obsessed with them. Unfortunately for me, I think having Victory's chapters intermixed made it more difficult for me to attach to Caro because I loved Victory's so much. I really really can't wait for Victory to get her own book please.
This was a really cool sci-fi read. Super high paced and engaging with a nice little romance.didn’t realize it was a part of a series so I’ll definitely be going back to read those as well.
Chaos is fast-paced, heart-racing romance that combines high-tension, space drama with intense emotional depth. The chemistry between Caro and Leviathan is electrifying, and their journey together is a rollercoaster of thrilling moments and touching vulnerability. The world-building is stellar, bringing to life a space-bound universe filled with enemies, betrayal, and sinister plots that adds a dark layer to the action. I couldn’t put it down, and definitely looking forward to read more from this author.
I couldn’t get into the story writing style isn’t for me but I definitely think others will enjoy this especially if you like lore Olympus vibes
I enjoyed the first two books in this series (CALAMITY, FIASCO) and was looking forward to reading this third installment. Unfortunately, this was a huge let down. The book seemed to be a hodgepodge of romantic sci-fi tropes, and I skimmed through many of the long, tedious scenes/internal monologues to get to the expected climax. None of the characters were interesting, and I couldn't really tell any of them apart; there are two narrators in this, and I repeatedly had to go back and check whose chapter I was on because they sounded so similar.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for a review.
I've enjoyed this series, and it was fun to see another outing. I had trouble envisioning exactly how big Leviathan was, though. I'm not a fan of insta-love stories, so that wasn't great for me, but the whole book was still pretty fun!
I absolutely love interconnected standalone books where each book focuses on different characters! So I have been really interested in this series, especially with all the space opera vibes! This book continues with the overarching plot seen in the first two books. For some reason this book didn't seem as connected to the other two, but that may be because we really only see main character Caro instead of all the other crew. I struggled a bit at the beginning since this book starts out with the main character falling for a pretty obvious trap by someone who she already doesn't trust. It was a little hard to believe that would happen. But this leads to us meeting the security twins we have heard about in the previous books but have yet to actually meet. Which I loved! I have been waiting to meet these characters! On top of finally meeting the twins we are introduced to a supersoldier or "stolen tech" who is a killing machine. Things really pick up when all the characters are together! So Caro through a series of alien bug bites can't touch any tech without messing it up, which is really bad as a hacker, but is perfect if you want to help the supersoldier you are obsessed with from becoming a killing machine. However she can only do this by touching him which leads to her basically becoming his backpack throughout the back. I loved these scenes and couldn't stop laughing.!
Overall I really enjoyed this space opera! I really enjoyed the multi POV especially from Victory, the female security twin. I was honestly very intrigued by Victory and her side story with Donovan. Their interactions were some of my favorites and I am really hoping for a story about the two of them. I have really enjoyed this series and can't wait to see what comes next!
The world building in this sci-fi romance was really fun to read! It's my first by this author and she handles sci romance like a pro and I didn't feel like I was overwhelmed with the jargon that sometimes comes with sci-fi. The FMC was strong and really likable and I really enjoyed watching their romance develop. For those looking to dip their toes into sci-fi romance this is a great starting point!
I ADORE this series, cosy sci fi is a new genre right? Lovable characters, tons of fun and sizzling chemistry, the world building is immersive and cleverly done but the stand out for me is always the characters, love love love this series can't get enough!
*Chaos* by Constance Fay is a gripping and intense journey into the complexity of human emotions, relationships, and personal struggles. The novel explores the tumultuous life of its protagonist, who is caught in a whirlwind of inner conflict and external challenges. Fay’s writing is raw and vivid, capturing both the chaos and beauty of life’s most difficult moments. The plot is layered with tension, revealing the character's growth as they confront their deepest fears. *Chaos* is a compelling read that will resonate with readers who appreciate emotionally driven stories filled with realism, heartache, and hope.
My thanks to NetGalley for making an eARC of this book available to me.
More adventures with the crew of the Calamity! This one focuses on Caro, the "tech expert" who lives up to the title of this book. She has the best of intentions, but when she makes a plan it all eventually goes sideways and descends into chaos. Caro heads out on a solo mission that involves super soldier, rogue Family members, a couple of mercenary "friends" of the Calamity crew, a prison that is both comfortable and very uncomfortable, a snarky AI, and smoke monsters that are both cuddly and not. Leave it to Caro to fall for the mind-controlled super soldier and keep pushing to find a way to save everyone she cares about and take down the Big Bad Family folks.
Another fun addition to the Uncharted Hearts series!
I love this series! It is full of space hijinks, a lovable crew, and a well-built world without being overly technical in the way that some sci-fi books can be. And while this one is a bit more technical it is solely because the female lead is the crew’s tech expert. Caro’s story was so good and we got to see her shine with all her amazing tech skills. And if you love Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, you are going to love Levi!
I can’t wait to see what’s next for the Uncharted Hearts series!
The story follows engineer Caro Ogunyemi, a tenacious heroine determined to prove herself to her space mercenary team. Her journey takes a harrowing turn when she embarks on a solo mission to infiltrate a secret human experimentation laboratory run by the formidable Pierce family. The tension escalates from the very first pages, as Caro's confidence quickly unravels when she finds herself at the mercy of Carmichael Pierce, who injects her with a bomb meant to control her every move.
Caro is a relatable and resilient protagonist. Her engineering skills, key to her identity, become a double-edged sword as an alien infection wreaks havoc on the machinery she interacts with, leading to both poignant and often humorous situations. This element adds depth to her character, highlighting her resourcefulness in the face of adversity.
Leviathan is another standout character, embodying the tragic consequences of power and control. As a mindless killing machine, his transformation upon Caro's touch reveals the deeper connection that forms between them, emphasizing themes of autonomy and redemption. Their partnership evolves as they navigate the perils of the laboratory, providing an emotional core to the story. The stakes are high, and readers will find themselves rooting for their escape—and for Leviathan to regain his agency.
Fay's world-building is impressive, filled with rich detail that brings the galaxy and its dangers to life. The Pierce family is painted as a chilling antagonist, and the moral complexities of human experimentation resonate throughout the plot. The author deftly highlights the ethical dilemmas surrounding power, control, and the humanity lost in the pursuit of dominance.
Overall, this was a captivating, fast-paced read that skillfully intertwines action, science fiction, and complex character dynamics. I highly recommend this book and its a must read for fans of the genre.
Chaos is book 3 in the science fiction romance Uncharted Hearts series. This time we follow the spaceship Calamity engineer Caro when she is lured into a prison break style mission by a former captain to rescue two friends and a man being subjected to experimentation by a nefarious mafia style Family. Sparks start to fly when Cato meets her man to rescue and she is the only one who can reach the little humanity left inside.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bramble for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review. I am giving this book 3.5⭐️.
I really enjoy this book series and did enjoy this book. I enjoyed the relationship between Caro and Levi although the spice scenes between them were fairly tame. If you are not a fan of prison break stories then this won’t be a book for you as most of it is about not only breaking out of a rather fancy prison, but breaking back in and then breaking out again. I liked the ending and the setup for book 4 but I really feel like the biggest strength to this series is the found family aspect and when the entire crew of Calamity is together. Sadly that is missing from almost all of this book so this gets 3.5⭐️ from me.
I do already have a copy of this book preordered and will post about it on my social media (TikTok and YouTube) closer to its release date.
This was my first read by this author and I'm also new to sci-fi romance, but I heard the hero was similar Bucky Barnes from Captain America: Civil War and I knew I needed to read this ASAP.
I am glad to report that I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Chaos. As stated before, I have no read the previous books in this series but I did not feel lost jumping right into this one. I felt the world was explained well without feeling like an info-dump. I thought the world was creative. I never felt lost while reading.
Caro and Leviathan were fantastic characters. I really enjoyed their dynamic a lot. Plus I thought Caro's alien bug infection disabling Leviathan's mind control chip was interesting (plus a reason for them to touch!). Their romance is endearing, sweet and romantic. I would have liked some more steamy scenes, but that's just my personal preference.
Everything was woven together perfectly. Really enjoyable!
This is my second read from Constance Fay and I am in love.
Chaos is an exhilarating sci-fi romance that takes readers on a wild ride through a galaxy of danger, wit, and unexpected connections. Caro, a quick-witted and tenacious engineer with something to prove to her crew of space mercenaries, is determined to earn their respect. She takes a solo mission to rescue two other mercenaries and a prisoner. They are in prison, conducting human experiments to make super soldiers. Caro must escape the prison and get people off the planet.
Caro's brilliance and humor make her a delightful character. She is not built for danger and adventure but proves your brain can be as powerful as a blaster. Her first encounter with the prisoner, Leviathan, is terrifying as he has a mind control chip, and she barely escapes him in a prisoner maze, think lab rat. To her shock, Caro's alien bug infection disables technology and the chip controlling Leviathan. This break restores his free will. When she touches him, the spark between them is undeniable. The romance between Caro and Leviathan is endearing and nicely woven into a high-stakes narrative. Caro and Leviathan's story offers plenty of laughs, nail-biting tension, and moments of warmth and vulnerability. The author creates fierce female characters and a blend of action and heart. I can't wait to hear more from the crew of the Calamity.
I received an ARC ebook for my honest review. Thank you, NetGalley and Tor Publishing, Bramble.
Ms. Fay’s writing continues to captivate, and with each book, she seems to reach new galaxies. This latest installment is, without a doubt, my favorite of the series so far.
In this book, we finally uncover the secrets that Caro has fought so hard to keep hidden.
Fiercely loyal to those she considers family, she’s faced with a crisis: two of her own are in trouble. And at long last, we get to see Victor and Victory in action—and they do not disappoint! To save the twins, Caro has no choice but to confront her past, even if that means getting herself arrested in the process. Caro’s inner monologue is every bit as hilarious and engaging as I’d hoped, delivering moments of laughter even amid the tension. Her unorthodox prison rescue leads her to some surprising revelations, as old mistakes return to haunt her. Leviathan, for one, is the kind of haunting many wouldn’t mind!
The romance between Caro and Levi feels especially moving in this book. Levi falls first for his “angel,” and Caro’s unique position allows her to help him rediscover himself after a past mission left his mind in pieces. Caro and Levi’s relationship feels deeply authentic because they’re both damaged, but they face it all together, and that mutual resilience makes their love story one of my favorite aspects of the book.
The chapters from Victory’s perspective add such a rich layer to the story—she’s every bit as sassy and sharp as the other “gals” on the team, and her voice is a fantastic addition.I also loved the GR81 storyline; it brought humor and humanity to Caro and her team, even while they face some pretty dark situations.
All in all, this story is an outstanding addition to the series, and I’m already hoping for more books to come!
This book doesn't reinvent the wheel, sure, but boy is it fun, fast-paced, and filled with excellently-written chemistry. Caro and Leviathan must battle the evil Pierce family and each other in this fun sci-fi-flavored romance. Constance Fay has written a few of these now (I think this is the third?) and they're all playful and efficient. Recommended for fans of action and romance.
This was a really fun sci fi read! Romance, high stakes and survival come together for this adventure.
Beautiful story. Characters were written well and plot was entertaining! This was my first book by this author and I’m definitely excited to read more! 4 stars recommendation!
