Oh how I enjoyed this SO much!! Definitely Hallmark vibes with the cozy lodge setting in the winter and the sweetest romance. I loved boybands as a teen (still do!) So I devoured those pages with articles and texts. I cant wait to recommend this book to my girlfriends who I know would love the plot and setting as much as I did.
oh i just loved this book so much!! i havent read the most from this author but after reading this, it made me want to change that. super cute story that will get you instantly hooked. likeable characters and a happy ending!!
This was such a great story, I could not put it down! I loved the added aspect of the articles/social media posts, and you can't help but love the characters. I also really enjoyed the way the main characters handled conflict/surprises. Overall such a good read and I hope there are more to follow!
Okay so this book was FANTASTIC! Like just such an adorable winter love story- with the cutest characters and the most perfect setting. Be ready for the most darling love story!
This was a very sweet and cozy forced proximity read. If you don't like spice then this is a great pick for you. The scenery was well depicted and will make you want some hot cocoa by the fire with snow outside!
I am honestly so honored to have been given an ARC.
This book was so cute and full of beautiful, descriptive imagery that made me want to go play in the snow?
No tropes that gave me the ick, intelligent characters that know how to communicate, and a cute kitty.
Fast-paced fun read!
Thanks again
This sorry was super sweet, super cozy, super romantic. I really enjoyed it! The cover is absolutely darling as well! How is my first book by this author but I will check out her others now. It was really well written and I always enjoy “other forms” of story in books, like news articles, texts, etc so that was fun right from the beginning.
Kayla is such a dear. I personally am a huge fan of her and her books as I follow her on her social media accounts. Her charm seeps into her characters and settings making her reads very warm and cozy. I personally love her content rating choices within her storylines and The Lodge is no exception. A few of the scenes were a little steamier than The Reunion but I still feel safe recommending her books to friends and customers alike without having to worry about there being anything too spicy.
There is minor language, albeit self/censored and as a quote of media. Within the context of the storyline the content is fine and justifiable.
This is the perfect book for Bookclubs where there’s excitement, it’s a page turner, full of emotion, relatable characters, and many scenes to make you smile!
I want to try a honey nut latte myself now. I can see her writing a book around the coffee scene in the near future.
So this cozy romance is set at a lodge in the mountains that really sets a whole vibe for the book. It’s cozy, it’s warm (though a blizzard), it’s adventurous, it’s the perfect set for a new romance. I adored the coffee shop, and Maddie as well, but the true heart of this story is Alix and Tyler’s love story. Albeit predictable, It sucked me in at record speed and I inhaled this book in a matter of days.
However, I wasn’t a fan of the choppy style of writing where the main story was broken up by twitter feeds, news articles, and email threads. It made the book less enjoyable to read for me, because it seemed disconnected for some reason, even though it was (usually) pertinent information . I wished the author would have somehow incorporated the information into the main text of the book.
3/5⭐
Sweet 🧁, not Spicy
This is a sweet, cozy romance. It's very predictable, but still an enjoyable read. It took a while for me to get into it, it didn't grip my attention right away, but the last 30% or so kept me fully engaged and unable to put it down. There were parts I didn't love- like, I'm not entirely sure why we had to dedicate two whole pages to reading the brochure for the resort. I did like the inclusion of the Twitter-like posts and blog posts, they were fun and a unique way to add perspective to the story.
Alix and Tyler are likeable enough as main characters.
✨Forced Proximity
✨Cozy
✨Insta-love (in my opinion)
I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good cozy romance without the spice.
Thank you, NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
(Also, not sure if the formatting was just weird because of the file for Kindle, but the formatting for text messages included in the book was inconsistent and often difficult to follow)
I want to start by thanking the author and publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. This was an amazing book! I highly enjoyed this story and would definitely recommend it!
thanks so much for the arc! i have been eagerly anticipating kayla olson's next ever since The Reunion was recommended to me (by @vivafalastinleen) so i could not get my hands on this fast enough. this was a pg-rated romance, which i was not expecting. it took me a while to get into it and understand/support the premise - the last third is the best part of the book. i really liked all the supporting cast members and the setting was super unique.
overall a strong sophomore performance by olson - i remain a fan!
Ooooh boy. This was sooo good! I loved the main characters, the setting, everything.
Snuggle up with some hot chocolate and a soft pretzel and enjoy!
I love the cover of this book! The story is pretty great as well. I enjoyed Olson's storytelling and how the characters came to each other. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. I think this will be an awesome book for wintertime.
I really enjoyed the writing style and characters in this book, but I really struggled with the execution. The concept is super adorable, but there were so many parts that fell flat and unrealistic for me (unrealistic even for a romance novel, I know.) I was annoyed at the FMC for not recognizing him sooner—i felt like screaming at her how obvious it was.
Entertainment journalist Alix Morgan scores a big break ghostwriting the memoir of Sebastian Green, who was a member of True North until his bandmate Jett Beckett disappeared eight years ago. Best of all, Alix has been put up in Sebastian's luxurious Vermont resort penthouse to write the book away. Except Alix encounters distraction in the form of her neighbour, ski instructor Tyler.
I devoured this book in one sitting. I loved the chemistry and banter between Alix and Tyler. Tyler was just a sweetheart. While I guessed the twist it was still a lot of fun watching the characters work it out as well. This book is well-paced and well plotted. I loved the articles in between chapters and the way fans interact online and have a bit of a parasocial relationship with their idols.
If I had any quibble it would've been the family drama with Lauren, Alix's spoiled younger sister. I was getting stressed with a growing tension that Alix's inability to be firm with her sister would come to haunt her and sadly it did. Alix let her off way too lightly. To be honest I could've done without the family side plot. I find myself stressed out by meddling relatives or best friends who cause drama through their selfishness.
Overall this book is the perfect read. If you love boy bands, celebrity romance, two fantastic love interests, this is the perfect winter book. Best read with a cosy blanket and a huge mug of hot chocolate. Encore Kayla Olson, encore!
Thanks to Atria Books and NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an advanced readers copy of this book!
If you like Hallmark movies, picturesque Vermont lodges, and boy bands I have the perfect book for you - The Lodge!
I enjoyed the lighthearted nature of this book with enough drama to keep the story moving at a fast pace. I did guess the plot twist pretty early on in the book but I was surprised with how the drama went down at the end of the book! I thought the main character Alix was very level headed and rational, I enjoyed her pov.
My first read from Kayla and I enjoyed her writing style as well as the mixed media (emails, texts, social posts, articles) used to tell the story.
Overall a 4 star read for me!
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.
The Lodge was a sweet romance that had some dashes of mystery to keep everything from being too picture perfect, which is the exact combination I love.
Entertainment journalist Alix gets her dream opportunity - ghost writing a book of Sebastian Green, former boy bander with True North, a band she covered in their hey day. When Sebastian offers her his penthouse at a ski lodge in Vermont things get even more amazing for Alix (especially as she can bring her adorable cat Puffin with her - Puffin is the best supporting character a book could have). Of course Alix meets a super hot ski instructor and starts to have feelings she thought previously dead. And of course said ski instructor is linked to Jett, also part of True North but rumored to be dead and certainly MIA for the past 8 years. What’s not so obvious? That Alix is going to see Sebastian and Tyler come face to face and her own sister is going to ramp up the drama!
You’ll have to read to find out more but you’ll enjoy every word. Clever articles and fan forum snippets are interspersed in the book to provide the reader context and some hot gossip, which I thought was an excellent strategy that paid off well for me. And while this is ultimately very much a romance which was easy love in every way, and some dashes of family drama weren’t as well developed as they could have been, the mystery with True North and Tyler was the edge that makes this so satisfying!
The Lodge is the latest romcom that I have read. This was a cozy romcom set in a ski lodge. Throw in the ski instructor and you’ve got a great story.
