4.5 rounded up! So happy to be back in the world of Eddie Flynn! As expected, this book was filled with twists, multiple plot points, quite a few villains, and unexpected surprises throughout as Eddie and his admirable crew prep for their next big defense case. There were so many side plots in this one that it was impossible to put down and just when I thought I had it all figured out, a total bomb was dropped, which is just how I like it!👌🏻 The ending was wrapped up tight with no loose ends, but also left some pretty good breadcrumbs making me think we are going to see some of these characters again…and I can’t wait! 👀
Steve Cavanagh has a true gift of writing complicated characters to a point that when his stories are over, you’re actually questioning whether you’re supposed to like/dislike them, which I think is so unique and always keeps me coming back for more! I have read (and loved) every book of his so far, including the 4 that I have read from this series. If you haven’t read his books, I highly recommend you go pick them up!!

Con artist turned defense attorney, Eddie Flynn is back in Steve Cavanagh’s latest edge of your seat thriller, WITNESS 8.
Dr. John Jackson, prominent brain surgeon has just been arrested and charged with the murder of Margaret Blakemore, denizen of Manhattan high society. He hires Eddie Flynn and his partner, Kate Brooks to defend him and find the real killer. Meanwhile, his cleaning lady, also at one time a high society grande dame, before falling on a hard times, knows what really happened at Margaret’s house that night. But Ruby is not telling what she knows as she she has other plans to keep her mouth shut. After all, Ruby is struggling to care for her mother.
Eddie, on the other hand, has his own problems. He is being followed and threatened by some well connected individuals. But he and his team, including former senior judge Harry Ford, his best friend, thwart the attempts on his life with the some very elaborate ruses that left my head spinning.
Will Eddie be able to clear Dr Jackson’s name? What are Ruby’s plans to cash in on her knowledge? And why does the painting in the Jackson’s home seem to speak to her?
This is my second Eddie Flynn novel and it was definitely as good as the first. I I am happy to see that there are many more novels in this series. The diabolical mind that is necessary to come up with this stuff is simply amazing. I love all of the characters, as they each play an intricate part in the storyline. The writing is clear and concise which leads to a very enjoyable read that I was unable to put down. I can’t wait to delve into the other books in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this ARC opportunity. All opinions are my own and given voluntarily.

Steve Kavanaugh writes intriguing thrillers with multiple characters - often each having their own motives. I enjoyed his novel Kill For Me, Kill For You and knew l'd enjoy Witness
8. I think I may have liked Witness 8 even more! I didn't see the twist coming, but in hindsight it made so much sense.
There are an abundance of characters and at times it can be difficult to keep up, but the final third of the novel is unputdownable! This is a slow burn thriller that picks up speed and doesn't slow down. Very well done, I'm excited to read more from Steve Cavanaugh in the future.

Another great novel in the Eddie Flynn series!! I was hooked from the start.
Always great character development and plot twists. The ending was perfect!
If you like mystery/thriller is the legal world, this book is for you as well as any book in the Eddie Flynn series!

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was fun and fast paced and a good mix of mystery, thriller, and judicial suspense. I really enjoyed all the povs and how they all came together in the end! I had never read any other novels by this author, and felt totally well situated in the universe he created! I didn’t feel like I was missing out, and i appreciated that! The ending was very crazy, I can’t believe he managed to tie all the loose ends up nicely in a little package! Overall, I really enjoyed this and if you like books about the law, suspenseful thrillers and mystery novels, I think you would like this too!

While I absolutely love love love this author, this book just wasn’t for me. It had a lot more action than I thought as I was expecting more of a legal / courthouse book. However, I love this author so much so I just didn’t want to leave a bad review. It just wasn’t for me. Looking forward to his next books though. I think they’re exactly what I’m looking for.

OK, so I realize that this may be 100% on me, but I'm afraid I did not have the same reading experience as most other readers. And after reading all the other reviews I am landing at the fact that it appears this is a nostalgic and emotional reading experience for everyone who has established a decades-long connection with these characters, which I do not have. Overall, it was an entertaining read, but I had some issues with the extensive number of POVs and the overall flow of the story didn't feel as smooth.

Witness 8 is another installment in the Eddie Flynn series. This story follows a similar format in that we are following the defense lawyers story as he takes on the case of a murder in a wealthy neighborhood. I found this one to be full of suspense, while also keeping me on my toes with an unreliable main character. I definitely think I’m going to read some of the others in the series that I haven’t read yet.

Having loved Cavanagh's previous work, including the twisty Kiil for me, Kill for you I was excited to read his newest masterpiece about Ruby Johnson who was formerly part of the ultra-elite Manhattan but now works as a maid. As a maid, she knows everyone's secrets and when she is the witness to a murder Ruby creates plans of her own. When an anonymous tip points the authorities in the direction of a neighbor, Detective Eddie and his crew have to figure out what's true and what's not.
This was part of a series (didn't realize that but this can easily be read as a standalone) especially since Cavanagh recaps who the characters are. The chapters were short which allowed me to read this story fast and the ending tied everything together nicely. The twists were were done and made me excited to read what's next from Cavanagh.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this advanced copy for my honest review.

Witness 8 by Steve Cavanagh is easily one of my top favorites in the Eddie Flynn series! Cunning, twisty, and packed with suspense, this book had me hooked from the first page. Just when you think you have it figured out, the plot thickens—again and again. I’m not going to lie…I devoured this in one sitting because I could not put it down. If you love a legal thriller that keeps you guessing, this one is a must-read!

Steve Cavanagh delivers yet another gripping installment in the Eddie Flynn series, a testament to his skill at crafting thrilling legal dramas that keep readers hooked from start to finish. This latest addition is no exception, blending dynamic characters with a masterful dual-plot structure that converges in a deeply satisfying conclusion.
The cast of characters shines brightly, each one distinct and brimming with personality. Eddie Flynn himself remains the larger-than-life heart of the story, a charismatic conman-turned-lawyer whose charm and complexity leap off the page. Supporting players are equally compelling, their individuality adding depth and warmth to the narrative. It’s a rare treat to find a book where every character feels so vividly alive and lovable.
Cavanagh’s storytelling prowess truly stands out in his ability to weave two seemingly disparate plotlines into a seamless whole. From the opening chapters, readers are left guessing how these threads will connect, a tantalizing puzzle that builds anticipation with every turn of the page. When the pieces finally snap together, the payoff is nothing short of exhilarating—a reward well worth the journey.
The audiobook experience elevates this tale even further, thanks to a narrator who once again breathes vibrant life into Eddie Flynn. His performance captures the character’s outsized presence with finesse, making every twist and triumph feel all the more real. For fans of the series, this is a narration that does justice to an already stellar story.
Another triumph in the Eddie Flynn saga, this book is a must-read for those who crave clever plotting, unforgettable characters, and a finale that ties it all together with flair.

Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for the arc copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Ruby Johnson grew up in a wealthy New York household, until her father spent every last dime and they were forced to leave behind their life of luxury. Now as an adult, she works as a nanny and maid on the notorious wealthy street she grew up on herself. When Ruby witnesses a murder while leaving work, her lies to the police land a well known doctor in court accused of the murder. A doctor who Ruby works for and desperately wants out of the picture.
Eddie Flynn, a ex-con man turned defense lawyer, knows immediately that Dr. John Jackson is innocent. The prosecution has some damning evidence stacked up against the doctor, but Eddie and his defense team use their creative tactics to uncover the truth. When Eddie angers a NYPD cop and ends up with a $50,000 bounty for his own murder, he must race against time to exonerate John and get the hit called off for his own life.
This is my first Steve Cavanagh book and a great one to start with. I did not know this book was in a series, but it was written in a way that makes it easily read as a standalone. The characters were diverse and interesting, and the writing style itself was easy/quick to read. I really enjoyed this book; the story was very suspenseful and face paced.

This was my first Eddie Flynn book and it will not be my last! I love the writing style - fast pace and the perfect amount of description. The cast of characters are great - I really loved the scenes (while only a few) with Tony-2-Fs... I could just see Lake's wrinkled suit...
Eddie's ex con but now lawyer style made for a very entertaining story - I can't wait to dig into others in this series!

Insane page turner. Fast paced, full of suspense.
I couldn’t read this book fast enough. Like all Eddie Flynn books I didn’t want it to end (but also couldn’t wait to find out what was happening)
Ruby witnesses a murder, but instead of turning the killer in and uses him to her advantage.
Eddie Flynn and his team are representing John Jackson, the man who has been accused of the murder, thanks to finding the murder weapon in his home.
Eddie and his team need to use every trick they can to keep this man out of prison, all while Eddie himself has found himself some trouble.
This is the 8th book in the Eddie Flynn series, but they can be read as a stand alone. Cavanagh gives good descriptions of each character as reminders so you won’t be confused during any read!
And the trails in this series *chefs kiss* full on cheering moments, head smacks, and so much emotion.
Don’t wait on picking up this book. Trust me.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the read!!

Fast paced, legal thriller, suspenseful, complex, multiple POV’s: this book lived up to its summary. This was the second book I have read by this author, but just my first Eddie Flynn novel. I see this is the eighth book in the series, but I felt just fine having not read any of the other books before. If I was missing something, I wasn’t aware so that is good. This book has a lot of POV’s, but I think reading it over a few days made it easy to keep track of the characters. The book sucked me in from the first chapter. I really enjoyed Eddie, the attorney, and at times his legally questionable tactics. Towards the end I started to feel ready for the book to wrap the book up, but overall enjoyed the book all the way through. 3.5 rounded up.
Thank you to Atria Books, Steve Cavanagh, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this novel in exchange for an honest review.

First of all, I did not realize this was the 8th book in a series. But either way, this can be read as a standalone. There are only a few things that I didn't get the reference to, but it didn't affect the pleasure of the story.
This story starts off with a literal bang! I love that we are thrown right into this wild story and the crazy mind of Ruby. Then as the story progresses, we continue to meet more characters (via their personal chapters) that all come together to make this story. I was hooked from the start and really loved the complex characters including Eddie. I definitely want to read more from this series and get more of his back story. He clearly comes with a lot of baggage.
I have read Steve Cavanaugh before and loved his writing. This did not disappoint.

Thank you Netgalley and Steve Cavanagh for an arc in exchange for honest review.
I have read Eddie Flynn before and loved Thirteen so I was excited to read this. The premise sounded great too but it fell short.
Usually, I don’t mind multiple POVs, but this time, I found it quite annoying. If the book had stuck to Eddie, Ruby, and maybe one other perspective, it would have been fine. However, we didn’t need POVs from multiple hitmen and Eddie’s team! It made the story feel disjointed, almost like multiple stories in one. Eddie also felt like a different character than usual, which was disappointing.
The twist at the end was okay, but overall, I was let down by this story. That said, it won’t stop me from reading the next book in the series. If you enjoy police procedural thrillers, you might like this one more than I did.

“ Because there’s something wrong with Ruby Johnson…”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 (4.5/5)
Ruby Johnson is a nanny and maid to wealthy families in Manhattan’s West 74th Street.
She knows their routines. Their secrets.
One night, on her way home, Ruby witnesses a neighbor’s murder. She knows the victim. She knows the killer.
She makes an anonymous call to the police and names the murderer. But Ruby didn’t tell the truth…
Eddie Flynn, conman turned trial lawyer, must defend an innocent man accused of this terrible crime. As Ruby’s deadly game begins, one thing is certain, it won’t be the last murder this witness is involved in…
This is the eighth installment of the Eddie Flynn books. You don’t necessarily have to read them all prior to this, but it does help with some background knowledge of the characters. If you want to read this as a standalone, I do believe the small background information provided of each character does the trick!
This book was great! It’s told in multiple POVs, in a linear fashion so it tells the story well. We learn ALOT about Ruby Johnson, and for those who are detectives while reading may pickup quickly as to why she’s doing what she’s doing. Whether you do, or find out the twist at the end, it doesn’t change the fact that this book is fast paced and you never expect what Eddie will do next!

Want to know what I crave more than anything? A new book by this author. My heart speeds up in anticipation and I have to put everything else off. I’ve been waiting for this release for a while now, plenty of time to feel that tingle inside intensify until I could take it no more and had to dive in. And what a perfect dive it was. My stomach lurched, everything around me disappeared while I was fully engrossed in the moment. Flynn again found himself in a life and death situation while having to handle a case at the same time, and there were also two other intriguing characters with their stories to tell. I expected nothing other than being thoroughly entertained and amazed by what cavanagh would pull out of his hat, and was wow-ed again and again. He must have Mensa iq or just a very clever imagination, because everything was intelligent, complex and original. If I haven’t convinced you this will be a masterfully crafted Flynn novel, I just ask you to give it a chance anyway.

This book had a lot of povs that I became confused as to who was who. There was alot of lawyer jargon. The pov of Ruby kept me continuing this book because I needed to know what was going to happen. It's also refreshing to follow Eddie's character he's smart and can handle almost anything. I liked this book it just wasn't my favorite.
