What I love about the Eddie Flynn series is that, while the books are interconnected, you can dive into any one of them that catches your interest. That’s exactly what I did I started with The Thirteenth Juror and absolutely loved it. Now, I’ve jumped to book 8, Witness 8.

Like the other books, this one is highly accessible. The pacing is solid overall, though it does slow a bit in the middle. I think the decision to include multiple POVs was excellent; it complemented the pacing and added depth to the characters.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books. My review is voluntarily my own

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read and review Witness 8.

Wow! What a story!
The characters were well written, memorable, and easy to keep track of with the multi-POV. This story had me on turning the pages so quickly because I needed to find out what happened and see how the story would unfold. I was not disappointed one bit — EVEN WITH THE CLIFF HANGER!!

I will be reading more Steve Cavanagh - and definitely the other books about Eddie Flynn, the ex conman turned lawyer.

I can’t wait to share my highlights when the book is published!

Thank you to Atria and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 stars rounded up. This is classic Eddie Flynn! It has all the bells and whistles that one looks for in this series - Eddie and crew facing a complicated court case, dead pan humor, characters you love to hate (that would be you, Ruby) and characters you hate to love (I am looking at you Mr. Christmas!). I had such a fun time with this read. I could not put it down and was flipping through the pages to find out how in the world they would discover how to save their client. In this story, a group of wealthy neighbors are shocked when there is a murder on their street - and one of their own is accused of the crime. Eddie's team believe that their client is innocent, but someone else seems to be pulling the strings and they are determined to see this man charged with the crime. Meanwhile, Eddie makes a few new enemies and there is a bounty put on his head. He has to dodge hired killers while trying to research his client's case. There is never a dull moment in this story. I highly recommend.

I just finished this and didn't realize that it was part of a bigger universe. Honesly it was great as a stand alone. If you’re into legal thrillers with plenty of twists and turns, this one should be on your radar.

The story centers around Eddie Flynn, a former con artist turned defense attorney, who’s pulled into a high-stakes case involving a man accused of murdering his wife. But here’s the kicker—the crucial witness to the case, “Witness 8,” has a pretty dark secret of her own, and things quickly spiral out of control. As Eddie digs deeper, it’s clear that no one is telling the whole truth, and the more he uncovers, the more dangerous the situation becomes.

The pacing was so good. It kept me on the edge of my seat, constantly wondering what was going to happen next. Cavanagh’s writing is sharp and full of suspense, and Eddie is such a compelling character—he’s tough but definitely has a vulnerable side too.

The pacing was bit slow for me in some areas, but honestly, it didn’t take away from the fun. If you like legal thrillers that keep you guessing, definitely pick this one up!

Overall, a solid 4 stars from me!

This book was bonkers. I loved the multi-POV of this book and how the characters intersected in so many ways. I will say that parts of this book were super unbelievable to me, but I had a great time with it anyway.

Huh. This is book 8 in the Eddie Flynn series. I didn't even realize that when I requested and received an advance reading copy from Netgalley. I have to say, it works well as a standalone because I never felt as if there was background information missing.; although, it would have been nice to have read the previous 7 books first. That says a lot about how much I enjoyed it.

The characterization was extremely well done. Cavanagh really took the time to develop each person, and having multiple point of views helps. I have developed a preference for that in books because the author can delve so much more fully into the character's motivations.

The story itself kept me glued to the book. With some extra time off I could race through it, and yet, sometimes I wish I was a speed reader as I really wanted to know what happened faster.

I was so completely captivated by the premise of this book that I somehow did not even realize it's the 8th in the Eddie Flynn series. Honestly though, I did not at all feel like I was missing anything while reading this book! I loved the multi-POV and lineup of characters. It was fast paced and kept me guessing until the very end.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Steve Cavanagh and Atria Books for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I have posted my review to Goodreads and will post to Amazon and Instagram upon publication day of March 25, 2025.

This wasn’t my favorite by Cavanaugh, but it was my no means a bad book! This trial was interesting to follow. You don’t know who to trust or what to expect next.

I have been wanting to try this author for a while. Well, turns out this book is Book 8 in the Eddie Flynn series. I usually make it a point to look at that before reading but somehow missed it. Fortunately, this story reads pretty good as a standalone. I did miss backstory and learning how the characters interact and such, but I still really enjoyed it. I have plans to go back and read the previous 7 also. Eddie is a lawyer with a con artist past. Already sounds interesting, right? Ruby Johnson is a maid cleaning the sorts of houses in which she used to live. There's a story there. Ruby witnesses a murder and wants to take advantage of it. Eddie is defending a surgeon accused of a murder. Oh yeah, and the mafia is in there too! How is this all connected? Well, just read it!! The story is told from several POV's and does come together nicely. As I said, I plan to continue the series.

Thank you to #NetGalley, Steve Cavanagh and Atria Books for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

I will post my review to Amazon, Barnes, Instagram and other retail and social media sites upon publication day of March 25, 2025.

This is the first Eddie Flynn book I have read by Steve Cavanagh. I have read a couple of his other books and have enjoyed everyone one of them. I plan on reading the whole Eddie Flynn series now!

I really like all the different POV of this book and the way all the characters are described. This books definitely kept me interested and was a quick read for me. Thank you and I would definitely recommend this book!

I had so much fun reading this book. I loved all the different POVs, all the different things that were going on here made the story really interesting. Between an unreliable witness, a hit put out on the lawyer, dirty cops……. there was really never a boring moment in this book. I think it’s really strong as a standalone but I’m sure it hits much harder if you’re already familiar with the Eddie Flynn series. Overall I really enjoyed it, if you like judicial thrillers or if you’ve never read one and want to try them out I think this series is a good place to start. It’s definitely a fun group of characters that feel like family and the way Eddie solves mysteries is so mastermind coded. Thank you netgalley for the early copy!!

I have never read a book by Steve Cavanagh before, but you can bet I will be reading every one ever published, after reading Witness 8. The characters are amazing, and they all compliment each other and the story. Steve Cavanaghs writing is smooth and easy to read. Even though this book is part of a series, it , along with all the the others can be read as standalone novels, so I didn't have tobstart with book 1.

Witness 8 is the eighth book in the Eddie Flynn series, and it’s a complex psychological crime thriller that doesn’t disappoint. Eddie Flynn, a former con artist turned lawyer, is once again the standout character. His knack for protecting the innocent while unraveling layers of deceit and self-preservation is utterly captivating.

In this installment, the characters are driven by their own interests, deliberately distorting the truth to serve their purposes, which adds to the intrigue and suspense. The way Eddie navigates through their schemes to uncover the real story is nothing short of gripping.

I enjoyed the book and the suspense, the characters were believable but a bit unrelatable or I would have given it a higher score. I find the cover intriguing and appropriate for the story

Witness 8 is another unputdownable addition to the Eddie Flynn series, once again delivering suspense and memorable characters. This detective mystery introduces Ruby, an unreliable narrator who works as a housekeeper and nanny in an affluent community she was once part of before her family’s fall from grace. After witnessing a murder, Ruby spins a web of lies and setups that keep the tension high throughout the story.

Eddie Flynn, an ex con turned attorney, shines as he works with his associates to prove his client’s innocence while facing threats of his own from organized crime. The team’s dynamic, sharp banter, and cleverness made the story even more enjoyable.

While there was one twist that genuinely surprised me, many of the others felt predictable, and the multiple POVs made the pacing slightly uneven at times. That said, the smart plotting, engaging characters, and witty dialogue still made this an enjoyable read. Fans of legal thrillers will surely enjoy Witness 8.

Synopsis:

Something is wrong with Ruby Johnson.

A former resident of the ultra-elite Manhattan upper class, Ruby now works as a maid in the type of houses she used to live in. Unassuming, she sees everyone’s dirty secrets from the inside of their beautiful, renovated brownstones. But when Ruby witnesses a murder, she has wicked plans in mind that don’t involve telling the authorities the truth.

Eddie Flynn, streetwise ex con-artist-turned-defense attorney, is the only lawyer in New York City willing to take on hopeless cases. And none is more hopeless than John Jackson’s—the gun that killed his neighbor found, with Jackson’s DNA, in his own home. Flynn and his unconventional team will need to use every trick they know to keep an innocent man from being locked up. But to save his client’s life, Eddie must first protect his own, as the scariest organized criminals in the city are out for his head.

Thoughts:
I’m torn because I couldn’t stand the ending of this book. But I also couldn’t put it down until I finished it. Like his other book, Kill For Me, Kill For You, this book has about a thousand points of view. Which I wasn’t a fan of. But the mystery was very intricate and intriguing. If you don’t mind a multi POV book, I highly recommend it!

I’ve only read a few of the Eddie Flynn books by Steve Cavanagh. But I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve read. He’s known for legal thrillers with multiple plot lines, lots of action and plenty of twists. Witness 8 is no exception. It’s not at all believable and if that’s important to you, you’ll struggle with this. But it is fun entertainment and I read it quickly.
The story starts when Ruby, a former resident of the Upper West Side, now works as a nanny and maid in her former neighborhood. When she witnesses a murder walking at home one night, she decides to turn things to her own advantage. Meanwhile Eddie takes the case of the surgeon accused of the murder. The mystery here is why Ruby has focused on the good doctor and what she hopes to gain from it. I had my suspicions early on and I was spot on.
Eddie also has some complications in his own life when a corrupt police mafia places a hit out on him. I thought the resolution to this subplot was great.
Cavanagh has created a great group of characters, not just Eddie but his whole team. Even Mr. Christmas, a hit man, was unique. The only one I struggled with was Ruby who came across as just a little too psycho for my taste.
While this is the 8th in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone.
My thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for an advance copy of this book.

“Something is wrong with Ruby Johnson” That’s an understatement, with Steve Cavanagh’s latest psychological legal thriller, Eddie Flynn novel, Witness 8. This is my second book from this author and it did not disappoint. Eddie is an ex con artist turned lawyer, he’s streetwise and finds himself defending clients he believes innocent. This story had me literally on the edge of my seat. Short chapters, giving you each character pov along the way. Eddie has to clear his client and save his own life in the process…yep it was a real roller coaster. It’s a grand slam read, this author will definitely be an automatic read for me. Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books and Steve Cavangh for another great Eddie Flynn story, in exchange for an honest review. Highly recommended read!! Pub date March 25, 2025.
