Wowww such a thriller! I flew through the pages. I bet this one ends up popular! Highly recommend for someone looking for a quick, intriguing read.

I am an unabashed fan of Eddie Flynn. Are these books, on some level, ridiculous to the point of over-the-top cliche? Yes. However, they are such great fun and fantastic reads. I don't mind the over-the-top thriller writing.

I didn’t realize this was a series! I was far more invested in Ruby’s narratives than Eddie’s and curious why the story focused so much on him when it seemed like Ruby should be the focal point. I enjoyed Ruby’s arc, but didn’t appreciate her. She was an unlikeable character with no redeeming qualities, so it was hard to root for her.

I didn’t realize this was a series novel but I still enjoyed it as a stand-alone thriller! I found it a bit hard to follow at times due to how many characters and moving pieces were involved, but overall enjoyed the plot and loved Eddy Flynn!

I have mixed feelings about this book. While parts of it were thrilling other parts seemed to trudge along at such a slow pace that I lost interest. I put it down and read another book, and eventually picked it back up and finished it. The pacing was off and maybe the trope was a little over done.

This was my first book by this author but I had already purchased a box set of the Eddie Flynn novels and am now looking forward to reading them all! This book was amazing! The characters were fully fleshed out and I loved every character (good and bad). I was so invested in every storyline (even one that I worried might not affect me the same because I didn't know the characters as well as some other readers. Exposition was given naturally through the book's beginning chapters so that the book could be read as a stand alone, which i loved. I hate books that have a page or 5 of obvious, inorganic exposition. I laughed, I gasped. I loved this book! I highly recommend it!

When the witness is more twisted than the killer? YES PLEASE.
I have not read any of the Eddie Flynn books yet but I did not have any trouble following it. I definitely will be starting the series though!
These characters are ruthless and I’m here for it. Loved the twists and how everything came together.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Something is wrong with Ruby Johnson.
A former resident of the ultra-elite Manhattan upper class, Ruby now works as a maid in the type of houses she used to live in. Unassuming, she sees everyone’s dirty secrets from the inside of their beautiful, renovated brownstones. But when Ruby witnesses a murder, she has wicked plans in mind that don’t involve telling the authorities the truth.
Eddie Flynn, streetwise ex con-artist-turned-defense attorney, is the only lawyer in New York City willing to take on hopeless cases. And none is more hopeless than John Jackson’s—the gun that killed his neighbor found, with Jackson’s DNA, in his own home. Flynn and his unconventional team will need to use every trick they know to keep an innocent man from being locked up. But to save his client’s life, Eddie must first protect his own, as the scariest organized criminals in the city are out for his head.

I first heard of Steve Cavanagh just this year when his breakout hit Kill For Me, Kill For You was all over BookTok and Bookstagram. I read it and loved it, so when this book showed up on NetGalley, I was quick to request it for review. I found out it was the eighth in a series and was a little hesitant to jump right into the middle of Eddy Flynn's world, but I did a little research, and the general consensus was that it would be okay to take this book on as a standalone. And I have to say that I agree. Cavanagh gives enough of Flynn's backstory in the book that, even not having read any of the prior seven books, I was able to enjoy every bit of this book and this character. And I now will look forward to going back and reading the rest of the series (but this time in order).
Cavanagh crafts a suspenseful and complicated tale, and you definitely have to pay attention because there are a lot of moving parts, but if you can hang in there, they conclusion is very satisfying. He has a way of writing characters that are very...human. I really enjoyed getting to know their layers and their motivations for acting the way they did. My brain remained engaged for this entire book because there were no freebies...every single twist was one I did not see coming. I look forward to reading more from this author and will continue to look for opportunities to spend time in the worlds he crafts.

Why didn't I discover this series sooner?! I've been reading quite a few duds in the mystery/thriller department, and somehow never thought to venture down the crime/legal thriller alley, which is strange, since I love legal procedural TV. Eddie Flynn could SO be a show on CBS or ABC primetime. A former conman, lawyer extraordinaire, his band of misfit employees, each with their own distinctive voice (the book switches between 7 POVs, all easy to follow BECAUSE their voices are so different). Throw in a gentleman villain named Mr. Christmas?! And another villain who's a wolf in sheep's clothing? Baby, you got a bestseller on your hands.
The various subplots and minor characters were all equally interesting and unique, and they all converged very neatly at the end, even though during, I didn't know how Cavanagh was going to resolve all of them or how they related to each other. There was also the wry, cynical humor you'd expect from NYC natives, but heart too. I liked reading the perspectives of the lawyers, their care towards their client, but also towards their colleagues, they really are a found family type of situation. I even teared up during certain parts!
Overall, a fun, fast paced legal thriller starring an unconventional lawyer, someone I'd bet my money on. Excited for Cavanagh's next Eddie Flynn book in 2025!

I loved Eddie and his team; they really caught my attention. The novel was well-written but sometimes felt overcrowded with perspectives, which lessened the mystery and suspense. Despite the busy narrative, the ending tied everything together beautifully. The twist caught me halfway, making it a solid crime thriller. While the pacing faltered at times, I’d still be open to reading another Eddie Flynn book.

I really like Eddie and his team, they gave me Criminal Minds team vibes. However this book dragged a bit for me. There we just so many points of view, and because of this I didn't really find there was much mystery/suspense. Overall I think there was just too much going on. It is well written though, so I would give a different Eddie Flynn novel a chance.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for the eARC.

I always enjoy Steve Cavanaugh and this didn’t disappoint. There was a lot going on in this book, but the last part of it tied everything together. It was a good mystery with a crime thriller and I didn’t see the complete twist coming — only half. It’s definitely a good read! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free copy.

Thanks to NetGalley for an arc. I will always read anything Steve Cavanagh writes. I was super excited to get this one early, but it was wasn’t the best in my opinion. In fact I think it may be the weakest of the Eddie Flynn books to date. But I think the main reason for that is that it felt like a significant portion of the chapters were written from the perspectives of characters I didn’t really care about. I would gladly take Eddie or anyone else on the team, but there were large chunks from other perspectives and I didn’t love them. I still look forward to the next one though!

After absolutely loving Kill for me Kill for you, I couldn’t wait to read this new one from Steve cavanahgh. However, I didn’t love this one as much as kill for me. There were A lot of characters in the story to keep track of and I felt the middle dragged a little bit. I liked Eddie’s character and how he worked to solve the case. This was a middle of the road thriller for me.

Such a good read! A page turner that always had me feeling, dare-I-say, creeped out? Steve cavanaugh did it again!!!

I am a new Cavanagh fan (I loved Kill For Me, Kill For You) so was excited to get this one! Unfortunately it didn’t work for me like I’d expected.
Parts of this were very interesting and exciting while other parts felt as though they dragged.
If I had known this were part of an existing universe I may have skipped it so that’s on me. Though, from what I understand they can all be read as standalone’s that just feature the same lawyer, Eddie Flynn.
Again, this one didn’t work for me but I can see it working for others! Particularly fans of Lucy Foley!
Thank you to Atria and NetGalley for the eARC!

A new installment in the Eddie Flynn series is always a book that I put first on my TBR. They are always gripping, fast-paced and near impossible to put down.
This one focuses on a murder with the wrong man on trial. Flynn must find out who is behind the bizarre plot to frame the wrong man. While he is working hard on this, he is also trying to avoid the men trying to collect money for taking his life. Who took out a hit on him and why?
As usual, Steve Cavanaugh weaves a thrilling story with enough twists to keep you turning the pages frantically to find out what will happen next. I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment. Thank you, NetGalley and Atria books for the eARC.

I’m a newbie to the Steve Cavanagh family. Despite it being the 8th book in a series it was easy to follow. The main character Eddie Flynn and his crew are extremely likable.
I enjoyed the writing style and liked being in the head of the person committing the crime. The short chapters jump from character to character who are full of deception with multiple plot lines evolving into one tidy wrapped up conclusion. Look forward to reading his next book!
Thank you to the author Steve Cavanagh Books as well as to @ArtriaBooks and @NetGalley for a free e-ARC. The opinions are mine alone and not biased in any way.

Addicted to the characters. I keep thinking about this book. I was at the point of sneaking to read it at work.

This was my first Steve Cavanagh book, and it definitely won’t be my last! The pacing is fast and the plot is full of clever twists that will keep you hooked. Ruby is a brilliantly complex character and her actions add a unique layer of suspense to the story. Cavanagh has a knack for building tension and keeping you on the edge of your seat.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers with unreliable characters, high-stakes drama, and unexpected twists, Witness 8 is a must-read. It’s a fabulous introduction to Cavanagh’s work and I’m already looking forward to reading more from him!
