Thank you to NetGalley & Atria Books for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book!

I can confidently say “Witness 8” is unlike any mystery thriller I’ve ever encountered. The closest comparison would be the experience of reading an entire “Law & Order” episode or even a whole season. With its seamless multiple points of view, the story is enhanced rather than convoluted, offering a dynamic narrative that kept me hooked.

Though this book is part of a series, it stands on its own perfectly well, making it accessible to new readers like me. However, after reading this, I’m eager to go back and start from the beginning of the series. As someone fascinated by law and the judicial system, I especially loved the courtroom brilliance and strategic moves that showcased the author’s creativity and attention to detail.

Steve Cavanagh’s ability to weave together multiple plotlines that all connect in a satisfying and surprising way is remarkable. This isn’t a “guessable” thriller, as you’re often in the perspective of one of the antagonists, but the motivations and resolution are genius and entirely realistic. Every detail serves a purpose, and by the end, it all clicks into place—without plot holes or neglected red herrings.

This book isn’t for everyone, as it caters to a specific niche, but for those of my like minded besties who enjoy the dynamic team camaraderie of “Criminal Minds”, the legal drama of “Law & Order”, and an unforgettable courtroom “Elle Woods perm moment,” this is a must-read. It’s the kind of thriller that keeps its pacing and tension throughout, delivering satisfying twists and turns without sacrificing logic.

Highly recommended for fans of smart, tightly-woven thrillers with a focus on law, justice, and the intricacies of human motives. Release date is set for March 25 2025!!!

Thank you NetGalley, for this uncorrected ebook ARC of 'Witness 8' by Steve Cavanagh - expected release date 03/25/2025

ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When I requested this book, I didn't realize it was the 8th book in a series. That being said, I didn't really feel like I missed anything by not having read the others. The author referred back/explained things enough, if it was pertinent to any previous books/ characters.

I've also read a stand alone book by this author and liked it, Cavanagh is a great writer - clean, twisty plots and the characters are all fully developed and interesting. I feel like I know them all, even the secondary characters. I love that a male writer chose to make a woman the bad-ass, head of security for his law firm. I didn't see a few of the twists coming so it was fun and intriguing to read, kept me guessing! He somehow managed to make this feel complete but then left the very end open to tie into book 9 perfectly.

I wouldn't mind going back and starting this series from the beginning!

I didn't realize this book was part of a series until I looked it up on goodreads. Had I known I would have read the previous 7 books because I was really confused here. Well written of course, but there was so much going on that I couldn't keep track of it all. I do enjoy the authors work so I'll end up going back and reading the series!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When I saw Steve Cavanagh’s most recent Eddie Flynn novel was on NetGalley, I didn’t need to read the synopsis—it was an automatic hit “request” moment. I love Cavanagh’s writing style and characters, and I’m so glad all of his books are being re-released to us here in the USA! I loved this book from start to finish. I have to say this novel didn’t have as many twists as some of his others (especially my favorite “Kill for Me, Kill for You”—seriously, go order it right now), but it did come together nicely with a few “aha!” moments that made it enjoyable as a thriller lover. The conclusion was well done in a way that made me excited for the next Eddie Flynn novel, but also left me satisfied with the conclusion. The only reason I left off a star was due to the number of POVs and characters. I had a hard time keeping a few of them straight and found I had to go back and clarify who was who a time for two (even though I read this book daily and finished in under a week.) It was just a little busy with a couple of similar names that kept me having to review. Otherwise, it was an excellent legal thriller that I highly recommend! I can’t wait for my next Cavanagh novel! Thank you, NetGalley and publisher, for allowing me to be an ARC reader again! Thank you, Steve Cavanagh, for all of the excellent novels. I am definitely a dedicated reader of yours and will continue to recommend your work! 🫶🏻

Oh how I love Eddie Flynn and this book just made my love burst even more. This booked grabbed me from beginning to end. I never wanted to put it down and now I am a little sad that I have finished it. 5 plus stars – I really think this series should be a movie or television show. Witness 8 (Eddie Flynn, Book 8) by Steve Cavanagh
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / Pages: 416 / Genre: Psychological Thriller
Release Date: March 11, 2025

Ruby is a maid and babysitter for the rich families in an elite Manhattan neighborhood. When one of her clients is murdered and her other client is the suspected killer, defense attorney Eddie Flynn is hired to defend Dr. John Jackson, the accused. As the story focuses on Ruby, we discover that she’s a bit deranged and definitely up to something, but what and why? And can Eddie and his team figure it out before it’s too late?

Steve Cavanagh is quickly becoming my new favorite author for psychological thrillers. I didn’t like this one as much as Kill for You, Kill for Me, but that would be hard to beat in my opinion (that book was perfection!) and this one is still a whopping five stars for me. It’s also book 8 in a series that I plan to start very soon, so while you can jump in and enjoy this thriller as I did, if you knew more about his crew from the previous books, you would be even more blown away by what happens in this story.

Thank you, @SSCav, @AtriaBooks, and @NetGalley for my gifted copy!

I have read several books by Steve Cavanagh and have enjoyed them all. Witness 8 is the latest edition of the Eddie Flynn series. This one started very quickly with the murder of Maggs and Ruby witnessing it. Ruby finds herself in a desperate situation and uses the murder to her own advantage. The short chapters jump from character to character with multiple plot lines evolving. Eddie is his likable and wily self who I root for. The secondary characters are interesting, but I found the numerous subplots a little too elaborate and definitely not believable--they were not necessary. However, the ensemble comes together to save the accused and tie everything up. I am curious to see if Ruby and Mr. Christmas will reemerge in another book in the future.

4 stars!

Steve Cavanagh wrote one of my favorite books of this year - Kill for Me, Kill for You - so when I received the ARC for this book I was legitimately so excited. Although this did not completely live up to Kill for Me, Kill for You (this is more of a police/courtroom thriller while KFMKFY is more of an amateur sleuth), I still really liked it! I think what made this so compelling was the main characters. This is my first book in the Eddy Flynn series (I don't feel like I was spoiled by anything) and just through this book I felt so invested in the characters. I will definitely be going back to earlier parts of the series so that I can experience more of them!

What I didn't fully love is how privy we were to the perpetrators of the crime. I don't particularly like mystery thrillers where we are in the head of the person committing the crime as I love to try the solve the mystery along with our main character. Besides that a win for me!

I enjoyed this book, but it was fairly slow. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about one of the main characters as she makes some pretty poor choices. Overall, and OK read but not amazing..

An Eddie Flynn novel that can be read as a standalone, Witness 8 follows Eddie defending John Jackson, potentially framed for the murder of a neighbor. In the meantime, Eddie is also trying to defend himself as someone also seems out for him as well.

Having said that this can be read as a standalone, and this is only my second novel of the Eddie Flynn series, I do think that I should go back and start from the beginning. I do think that as good as this book was, it would be further enhanced by reading the full series and getting to know the characters a little bit more to truly appreciate it and get a bit more background. Having said that, this can be read as a standalone. The action was non-stop, the characters are great and twisted, and this author's writing is pure genius. I consider myself lucky to have a backlog of the series to catch up on.

4/5 ⭐

This was jawbreaking good, i didn't know a thriller could keep me from breathing so much the suspense was intense.

I never knew I would love a crime thriller this much. Usually i'm easily distracted from books that have too many caracters but this wasn't the case.

You need to read this book as soon as possible!!

This was my first book by Steve Cavanagh, but I have heard a lot of rave reviews about this series so it will not be my last! A novel full of intrigue and unexpected twists and turns.

I've read several of this series, and Steve's work and to me while this book was amazing, the speed and timing of it was just a bit too slow for me and had too many moving parts. It was a great book, just not one of my favorites.

I really like the Eddie Flynn series!! There was a lot going on in this book & it definitely was a lot to follow in the beginning, but the story played out really nicely and I felt like the author did a good job at tying up all the loose ends.

Steve Cavanagh is one of my few must-read authors. His legal thrillers are smartly written and always have a LOT of twists. This is the latest in his series about former con man Eddie Flynn, who is now a criminal defense attorney.

Eddie meets a man accused of murder, but he recognized right away that the man wasn’t guilty. Taking the case meant way more than Eddie anticipated, though.

Corrupt cops, professional assassins, mob bosses, and more are in this book. It was a fun read. I do think it was a bit weaker than Cavanagh’s other books, but it still earned 4 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

Ruby Johnson’s life dramatically changes from rich and privileged to a commoner. Growing up living among the rich in Manhattan her life drastically changes when her father disappears leaving her mother and her destitute losing everything because of his gambling.

Ruby feels disgraced and ends up working as a maid in the homes of the people her mother was friends with at one time. She is an outsider now and feels the pain daily. She hates the fact that she isn’t one of them anymore.

This book is engaging and I couldn’t put it down.

Publication March 2025

Thank you NetGalley and Atria for this ARC for my honest review.

A favourite character of mine, Eddie Flynn is back. Thanks to New Galley and Random House Publishing for the ARC. In true Steve Cavanagh style, a novel full of intrigue, fun and unexpected twists and turns. I can’t wait until Eddie’s next case.

I love the Eddy Flynn stories! What an awesome character to build and yet again he never ceases to amaze the reader with his creativity and ways of "bending" the law to ensure he can protect his client. I loved all the characters that worked with Eddy but I will admit that I really really hated Ruby for almost the whole book.

It took until the very end for Cavanagh to redeem her for me and somehow I never actually saw the ending coming and of course the book ended up being not about what you thought it will be about. If you haven't read this series, you are truly missing out. These books are fast-paced, funny, interesting and always leave you with something extra.
